HEADLINE: Caricom duty-bound to intervene in Windies cricket ? Sir Hilary

KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) — Leading Caribbean academic Professor Sir Hilary Beckles has strongly endorsed Caricom's intervention in the running of West Indies cricket, warning the governance of the game in the region had reached a “perilous state”.

The University of the West Indies vice-chancellor and former Cave Hill Campus Principal Sir Hilary contended the region's political leaders were “duty-bound” in their current efforts at restructuring since “the current system of governance and accountability is not fit for purpose”.

He referenced regional governments as “honest brokers of last resort”, while asserting their right to “to rise to the responsibility of contributing to the restoration of public decency and sustainability in the affairs of our proud cricket nation”.

It is impatient of debate that heads of governments have a duty to facilitate an enabling environment within which our greatest cultural achievement as a people — the honour and privilege of leading the world in the excellence of Test cricket,” Sir Hilary said in a written statement.

Maybe he came to his senses?? Either way, what he is now saying is correct and needs to be supported and actionable.

It will be interesting to see if Caricom can remain united and rattle the CWI cage until it falls apart. Or will CWI's cage hold until Caricom start to fight among themselves. Is Vegas leaning Caricom or CWI?

How can Caricom do anything its divided

Antigua is with the BIG Ediot

Jamaica , Guyana , Windwards and Leewards support

the big EDiot . He has enough votes to stay .

Instead of going to the ICC which will say solve it
amongst yourselves, why not meet with the stakeholders,
at the grass root level. They then will make changes at the zone level, then at the country's cricket Boards.

It is the only way, then change will occur.

Until then prepare for inept Administration at CWI.

Interestingly HE was an influential
Member on the Board once , Why the Hell he did not ask them to change their Vindictive Modus Operandi & their archaic Structure ???

Some here may believe in that Nancy Story , but I am not about to buy it.
In my opinion HE had a hand in the
current state of West Indies Cricket.

My impression , is that he is now saying Mea Culpa , in an attempt to seem relevant . I aint about to buy
what He is selling .

WE are admonished in the Bible that
You cannot Pour New Wine in Old Bottles . Therefore , Beckles time
came and went . HE was a part of the
Problem , in my opinion , therefore
He can never be a part of the Solution .

WHAT WE NEED IS COHESIVENESS NOT

DIVISIVENESS BETWEEN THE WICBC/CWI

AND OUR PLAYERS . THAT IS ONE OF THE

MAIN FLAW IN WEST INDIES CRICKET .

THE SECOND MAIN FLAW IS THAT THOSE

WHO GOVERN AND THOSE WHO REPRESENT

US IN INTERNATIONAL CRICKET MUST

ALWAYS TREAT EACH OTHER WITH

GENUINE RESPECT .

Unfortunately the MIMIC MEN in the
Governance of West Indies Cricket believe that Respect is a One way Street .

It is this asinine behaviour that
causes the WICBC.CWI having to monetarily Pay for their Colossal
Egotistical , Arrogant & Imperialistic Behaviour .

Needlessly depleting the Coffers of the Worst International Cricket Board
in the Commonwealth ; aka the WICBC/CWI .

None of the directors voted against the Patterson Report. However some were not in favour of implementing the recommendations contained in the report in its entirety.

These recommendations which were not implemented were viewed by the directors as impractical.

But what angered Mr. Patterson most at the time was that certain directors (they shall remain nameless) who had misgivings about the report were all over the place running their mouths and giving the impression that it was a bad report instead of having dialogue with him (Mr. Patterson).

The WICB eventually had a series of meetings with Mr. Patterson where it was explained by the directors why certain aspects of the report could not have been implemented.

Sir Hilary during one of these meetings gave alternative views (recommendations) to the "impractical" ones.

The recommendations which were deemed "practical" have since been implemented.

Repeat...all WICB directors voted in favour of the Patterson Report or at the very least, most aspects of the report.

Are the empty vessel academicians the bane of WI cricket? We don't see so many academician heads talking in international cricket around the world. Even if they are, they are mostly talking statistics and technicals..

You are talking about an empty barrel pseudo
academic who had a chance to change the Mentality of WICB and did nothing. Well, he did call individuals don etc but in some private capacity.

He calls himself a Caribbean man of the soil, yet he
accepted on his knees a title from the British. Today
as one of them, he is seeking reparations on behalf of
his mentally emancipated brothers and sisters whom were
part of slavery.

History is showing this individual is only enhancing himself. He writes books that command more per copy that some of his fellow citizens make per month. I have yet to see them being distributed free in the Caribbean.

Such individuals reside all over the Caribbean, talk cost nothing, when put in a position of authority that Caribbean to the bone mentality, somehow evaporates.
They then pursue gains that enhance themselves rather
than the population.

The typical response from the illiterate is leave we bwoy alone nah,all u jealoss or wah !!!!
As others world wide progress, we still live in the crabs in the barrel mentality. If one leaves seeking better
opportunities abroad, they are view as mercenaries.

Our Heads are so hard we doh learn, we had an opportunity
over 5 decades ago to work as one Nation, insular jealousies allowed such thinking to be destroyed.

Today, most first world nations are seeking such accomodations with each other to become stronger, so their citizens benefit .
We are still divided at CARICOM, an entity that serves no purpose, a group of empty barrel leaders that meet to enjoy hospitality at taxpayers expense.

The Regional Governments spent MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to accommodate
the Requests of

THE WORST INTERNATIONAL CRICKET BOARD

IN THE COMMONWEALTH AKA THE

WICBC/CWI.

Now this sure aint a figment of my
Imagination . If the 2007 Cricket
World Cup failed it sure as Hell was
not because The Regional Governments
failed in what THEY were asked to do.

I am therefore of the opinion that
the Regional Governments have a RIGHT
to ask :

THE WICBC/CWI TO ADHERE TO ALL THE

PRINCIPLES OF GOOD GOVERNANCE , WHICH

MUST INCLUDE RESTRUCTURING ; &

TRANSPARENCY .

These have been lacking in the WICBC/CWI for Decades .Its classic
Modus Operandi is to every 3 years or
there about , to Commission Reports
when they get those Reports , they are perpetually shelved .

THE STARK FREAKING FACT IS THAT THE

PEOPLE IN THE WICBC HAVE DECIDED THAT

THEY ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE NO

MATTER WHAT THE STANDING OF OUR TEAM

IN THE INTERNATIONAL CRICKET ARENA .

THIS IS PRECISELY WHY THEY MUST BE

REMOVED AND THERE MUST BE A COMPLETE

RESTRUCTURING OF CRICKET IN THE

REGION .

I perhaps may be wrong , but I believe that the Various Boards in the Region have an Obligation to
raise Funds individually , so that
the Pitches are properly prepared etc.

I could be wrong but my belief is that the WICBC/CWI doles out money to
the 6 Regional Cricket Boards in the
Region , and that's it .

In my opinion , The Regional have or should have a responsibility to ensure that the standard of Cricket in their Countries improve .

Obviously if this is done the standard of Cricket in the Region will Improve . Again I could be wrong ,what is happening now , however years ago in SVG , there were dances ,and Merchants gave prizes etc .

IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO FIND OUT

WHY YEARS AGO THE WINDWARD ISLANDS

TOURNAMENT HAD A DURATION OF 4 DAYS .

NOW THE DURATION IS 2 FREAKING DAYS

IN ESSENCE 4 INNINGS MUST BE PLAYED

IN 2 FREAKING DAYS .

So how the Hell are Players in the
Windward Islands to be competitive in the longest version of the Game . This in my opinion is utterly disgusting .

Well thank you for that....very poor analogies by sir Hilary . At no time did Gayle have more power than Worrel had as captain...

to compare Gayle to Dudus coke was obviously stupid.

the long standing problems between the board and many of its players must reflect badly on the leadership of the board...it is incumbent on the employer to get the best out if his employees and overcome obstacles.

Given the lack of sustainable financial support for cricket in the Caribbean there is an obvious issue ...the resolution required a negotiation with the employees ( WIPA.?) and creation of a window or opportunity for the players to supplement earnings.

Worrell was a leader, off the cricket field.
LLyod had some of that leadership quality, something that is lacking with players today

For the last two decades.
Worrell fought for guys like Gayle and Shiv, to be able captain the West Indies.
Llyod was one of leaders, in the Packer World Cup of cricket

Who are our leaders today?
