mikesiva 2019-01-11 03:02:20

...at the Wanderers.

Pakistan: 1 Imam-ul-Haq, 2 Shan Masood, 3 Azhar Ali, 4 Asad Shafiq, 5 Babar Azam, 6 Sarfraz Ahmed (capt./wk), 7 Shadab Khan, 8 Faheem Ashraf, 9 Mohammad Amir, 10 Mohammad Abbas, 11 Hasan Ali

South Africa: 1 Dean Elgar (capt.), 2 Aiden Markram, 3 Hashim Amla, 4 Theunis de Bruyn, 5 Temba Bavuma, 6 Zubayr Hamza, 7 Quinton de Kock (wk), 8 Vernon Philander, 9 Kagiso Rabada, 10 Dale Steyn, 11 Duanne Olivier

Zubayr Hamza comes in for Faf du Plessis. That is South Africa's only change. Pakistan have made three changes.

South Africa have won the toss and elected to bat.

djdrastic 2019-01-11 03:08:32

Been raining a lot during the week.Expect a heavyish outfield.Sunshine predicted for the next couple of days with the occasional T.storm.

Good to see they picked the kid to play.Encourages guys who do well on the SA A Tours and Domestic front that they can play on the intl stage.

I haven't seen a whole lot of Hamza as the 4 Day tourneys are not televised but the little bit I've seen on SACM he looks like a sorted bat.

djdrastic 2019-01-11 03:08:49

Elgar goes

Mohammad Abbas to Elgar, OUT, Abbas strikes with his fourth ball and finds the outside edge of Elgar. Good length and angling across off, seaming away. Elgar feels for the ball and tickles it behind. Sarfraz snaffles it and Abbas roars in delight

D Elgar c †Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Abbas 5 (6b 1x4 0x6) SR: 83.33

SA 6/1

mikesiva 2019-01-11 03:21:47

Elgar out to Abbas for five...one down.

Fifty partnership up between Markram-Amla

Casper 2019-01-11 04:41:33

What was Michael Holding doing during his current commentary, by bringing up all those horrendous stories of recent past Apartheid South Africa history?

I could feel the tension among his fellow South Africa commentators as they let Miley carry on and reminisce about his recent and first ever visit to Soweto.

They just remained silent and I sense Mickey recognized their discomfort, but he was not going to stop, he had to get some of those things off his chest.

In reply to Casper

Good for Mikey!

South Africa 108-1 at lunch.

Good to see Markram back on form....

mikesiva 2019-01-11 06:09:13

Markram out to Faheem for 90.

Amla out to Shafiq for 41. Hamza in for his debut.

Guy McKechnie: "Could be a little terse out in the middle with both batsmen feeling like they are playing for the same spot!"
big grin
South Africa 226-3 at tea.

de Bruyn 48*
Hamza 38*

This Hamza kid looks really good in both defense and his run scoring aggression seems very calculated- perhaps the guy who will eventually replace Hashim.

Is his parents Iranian?

Who was his fellow commies when he was making these comments?

When I turned on the tv- he has Niti and Mbwanga in the box with him.

Indian South Africans

A story that's very similar to the British West Indies....

Abbas traps de Bruyn lbw for 49.

djdrastic 2019-01-11 08:15:12

Mohammad Abbas to de Bruyn, OUT, Another appeal for lbw from Abbas. Umpire Ravi raises his finger, de Bryun knows he has been trapped in front. Nice and full, reverses in, de Bryun, having shuffled across, does not lay bat on ball and is pinned in front of middle. That's adjacent and the batsman doesn't even bother to review. Abbas finally has some success after the break

SA 229/4

Pity as this was shaping up to be a good little partnership.

djdrastic 2019-01-11 08:23:48

Mohammad Amir to Bavuma, OUT, Amir finds reverse swing, finds the outside edge, and it settles into the gloves of Sarfraz. Good length and curving away close to off stump, which means Bavuma to play at it. He wafts and sends an outside edge to the keeper, who makes no mistake this time. Pakistan are thriving with the old ball

Rare failure for Temba

SA 238/5

djdrastic 2019-01-11 08:43:47

Mohammad Amir to Zubayr Hamza, OUT, No fifty on debut for Hamza! Amir has him nicking off. Good length and reverses away outside off, Hamza thinks about letting this go, he is late to pull his bat away. Ends up feathering it behind to the keeper. Lovely little debut innings, nevertheless

Zubayr Hamza c †Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Amir 41 (68b 5x4 1x6) SR: 60.29

SA 244/6

Emir 2019-01-11 08:46:04

Reverse swing- Pak doing what they do best- come back from the dead but don't be surprise if they lapse again. Meanwhile the commies have stopped focusing on cricket in favor of their golf- real poor of the commies here.

In reply to mikesiva

Thanks Mike, I am very familiar with East Indians in SA.

But Hamza isn't Indian (South Asian) decent like Hash, Tahir and Shamshi.

There was Arab and Iranian migration into SA and I was thinking his heritage is from there.

Pak bowling some real quality stuff now.

Outrageous commies- Amir leaves the field mid over as he APPEARS to have a small injury/niggle. The commies have forgotten the match is going on- they are still talking golf- it has been over 5 mins and they haven't even mention Amir leaving the field. They have ceased all cricket commentary now, only Golf.

Pakistan bowling has been unlucky on this tour plus Yasir stunk up the joint.

Is he only effective on turning tracks? IF so They have to play him selectively

Warney is miles and miles ahead of these guys.

Agreed!!!!

But great fight back by Pakistan.

In this series they missed a trick or two. And Yasir didn’t bring anything to the table. Hence they were effectively handicapped with 3 bowlers.

Wickets galore from the 4th onward.

My highlight was seeing and hearing Big Easy,Ernie Els in the commentator's booth.
Big cricket fan.

Sylvester Clarke and Kallicharran got mentioned among the players he liked. Most others were South Africans.....Pollock, et al.

Philander to Azhar Ali, OUT, another for Philander! Jumps up at Azhar in the corridor and takes a proper bit of the outside edge this time! QDK lunges to his right and takes it. Marginal shape away from Philander. Starts at off, moves into the channel. Azhar defends with an open face and is gone first ball

When half your tests are played at home you need a guy who can bowl well in home conditions. Philander does that job for South Africa.
cool
Olivier's not bad at home too...he takes two in an over! Nightwatchman Abbas out for 11, and Shafiq for a duck.

Philander gets his third! Imam out for 43....

Pakistan 111-5 at lunch.

runout 2019-01-12 10:43:42

In reply to mikesiva

Disappointed in Pakistan’s response in the first inning. Darn it making a 40-50 don’t win games. And none of the batsmen on tour, except for Masood, looks like they want to fight this out. Babar, talented and exciting, flatters to deceive.
And Sarfraz has to take more responsibility. His tenure as captain is quickly coming to a close.

For a moment I was expecting the quicks to run through the Saffies like the first inning. But de Kock crowing, and Amla rowing freely.

Advantage South Africa.

goofballs 2019-01-12 10:58:10

I was busy watching Rohit, then I collapsed and slept for a few.
Saw latter part of SA's innings.
Amla....class is class.

This Saffie pace attack is relentless, reminds me of our own when we rule the world.Imagine a batsman looking forward for some spin and it never come.Nowadays we try it but it must be 4 very good smart fast bowlers.I hear about the new ones on the horizon from Jamaica, lets hope they improve fast.

cool

We have a long way to go to recapture our glory days or to catch up with south Africa.

Assad gets his half century!

Olivier gets two in two! Babar out for 21. Sarfraz out for a duck!

Narper 2019-01-14 03:21:35

42.5
Olivier to Sarfaraz, out Bowled!! Golden duck for the Pakistan skipper. Sarfaraz was probably expecting the short ball. But, Olivier bamboozles him with a length ball that seamed in off the deck. The right-hander was hanging back and played well outside the line of the ball. A big gap between pad and bat for the ball to sneak through. Crashes into the stumps and Olivier is now on a hat-trick.

Sarfaraz b Olivier 0(1)

42.4
Olivier to Babar Azam, out Caught by de Kock!! That's a vicious delivery from Olivier. Too good for Babar Azam and he's gloved that to the keeper. A skiddy short ball that kept coming in with the angle. Add the steep bounce to it - that's a very dangerous combo. Azam can't pull his bat away from it as he tried to sway away from it. Brushes the glove and goes straight into the hands of the keeper. South Africa have broken the partnership and quickly.

Babar Azam c de Kock b Olivier 21(29) [4s-5]
