HEADLINE: Windies coach cautions fans against inflated expectations

CaribbeanCricket.com 2019-11-05 03:01:04

With the West Indies set to begin their tour against Afghanistan next week, reappointed head coach Phil Simmons is asking regional fans to temper their expectations for his four year tenure. The first test for Simmons and the Windies comes up on November 6 against the Trinidadian's previous employers Afghanistan.

However, the 56 year old who is now back after being fired in 2016, doesn't see himself as a miracle worker and has asked the regional fanbase to have a little more patience as he tries to propel the team to the top of the world.

During his time away, Simmons had enough time to identify a particular weakness that has cost the team matches in one day internationals. Plotting the way forward has always caused a split of opinions and the subject of Chris Gayle's future in the team is one such matter but Simmons has no intention of losing such a prized possession. The West Indies play the first of three ODI's against Afghanistan on Thursday.

Looks like he is planning for the long haul and already paving the way for a second 4-yr term. So the plan is for incremental improvements while he milks the job ….smart guy smile

Inflated expectation?

Is that another term for irrational exuberance? Is that synonymous with Windians?

Rass, the man probably read right here how many times we turned the corner. And we never left the circle.

Good luck to him. He needs all the help he can get.

Whats wrong with having high expectations. I still cant understand why he was brought back other than the fact that Skerritt has no clue what he is doing. I think Caribbean people for too long have been satisfied with mediocrity.

After all he Coached Afghanistan, he knows a thing or 2 and he can probably see a Tsunami coming.

The man failed as Coach before and was fired. Simmons himself was a mediocre cricketer. Billed as a hard hitting batsman in his day but was nothing more than another non thinking brainless technically flawed tt swiper. Pis'lard the current WI captain is the perfect reincarnation this guy. cool

Simmonds is doing a good PR job, lowering the expectations, so if they lose the fans would not be too frustrated.
