A week before the 2020 CPL takes off, disgruntlement has been brewing among several franchises who are unhappy with Trinidad-based players and staff, most of whom represent Trinbago Knight Riders, being allowed to remain outside the bio-secure bubble and continue to train while rest of the squads are cooped up in their hotel rooms for more than a week.

Among those being critical is Daren Sammy, the St Lucia Zouks' captain, who said "everyone" should have been part of the bubble from the first day to "guarantee" that the health and safety of all stakeholders is not "compromised."

Some of the Knight Riders players who are from Trinidad include internationals Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Bravo, Sunil Narine, Lendl Simmons and emerging young talent Jayden Seales.

On Tuesday, the CPL sent out a media release saying Zouks and Knight Riders were the first two teams to be allowed to train. The release also said the local Trinidad players and staff had cleared the mandatory testing process and would start entering the bubble this week.

On Monday, Sammy posted two messages without naming any player or team. "How can everybody else be in a bubble no access to training or practice games while others on the outside in a covid infected area be training and playing practice games. Then allow to join the bubble without self-isolation," Sammy said in his first post.

This is not complicated

There is a cricket bubble, an onshore outside of cricket bubble and then an offshore

Did you want the organisers of the tournament to manage the foreigners from the offshore ‘bubble’ in the onshore bubble with the general public, then a week later transition them to their final cricket bubble?

That’s just nonsense and idle people who just want to whinge and whine about every wind that blow

Anyone coming into T&T has to automatically quarantine for 14 days

TKR players that are already in Trinidad do not have to quarantine, unless they test positive for Covid 19 or have had exposure to someone who has tested positive for the virus.

Since neither has happened, they will then enter the CPL bubble and follow the same Protocols as everyone else.

The requirement to quarantine for 14 days immediately upon entering a country is SOP for many countries. Nothing out of the ordinary here.

It seems as if Sammy’s real gripe is that TKR gets to practice while the other teams can’t. And even then, what TKR has done is not wrong.

All players should be in the secure bubble for the duration of the tournament.. players health is important.. did England allow their players to lime and play cricket outside of the bubble during the Eng vs WI series just because their at home?

People in the WI got their own way to do things.

The thing is, if Pooran, Ramdin, Lewis, and the other T&T franchise players R allowed the same freedom to practice as the TKR local players, then, OK...
But if they have to go into the bio-secure bubble, then I can C Y the other teams R unhappy.

The others teams were already assembled and required the TT players to assemble along with them
The TT team were not yet assembled and did NOT require the TT players to assemble along with them

England players were free to continue doing whatever they did PRIOR to entering the bubble.

Players in Trinidad have not yet entered the bubble.

They are regularly tested even when not in the bubble

How difficult is that fuh allyuh to understand?

A country being Covid free is NOT a requirement to host a tournament. If that were the case, they couldn’t even host it in New Zealand.

England players entered a secure bubble for about 12-14 days before the series started. CPL starting in a week or less and the local players from T&T still out there doing whatever they want.

CPL gonna bring dem in a day or two before the tournament and let dem mingle with everybody else?

Once yuh out there and de country still recording cases regularly yuh at risk.. regular testing means nothing.. results take on average 24-48hrs to get.. in that time dem bannuh could come in contact with someone and still pick it up.

I entered this post before, but for some reason it was erased. I'll say it again, he who pays the piper calls the tune. Trinidad is currently the leader of the Caribbean. They are the ones with the resources and know how when it comes to hosting regional events. They have all right to use their position to their advantage. Instead of being envious, why don't we stop complaining and try to acquire the resources, develop the expertise and become Caribbean leader so we can be in that position?
