WITH the West Indies recent struggles on the tour of New Zealand, veteran cricket commentator Joseph ‘Reds’ Perreira believes that several changes should be considered ahead of the tour to Bangladesh.

West Indies wrapped up their New Zealand tour earlier this month when they were soundly beaten by an innings and 12 runs inside four days, to lose the series 2-0 following a similar innings loss in the opening Test.

The Caribbean side also suffered a sound thrashing in the preceding three-match T20 International series, and after widespread disappointment, where they failed to impress, Perreira is of the opinion that the selectors must make brave selection decisions.“Based on Bangladesh spinning conditions, I don’t expect Roach (Kemar), with the passing of his father to turn around and go to Bangladesh, and it will not be wise for Gabriel (Shannon) to go where conditions really do not suit his fast-bowling.

“I think Shepherd (Romario) has shown both sides of the game, so he could be a major asset to Jason Holder, who along with Alzarri Joseph and Chemar Holder should be completing the fast-bowling unit,” Perreira told Chronicle Sport.

Well those were some 'out of the box' views by Reds, I do not see the WI leaving out their most penetrative bowler, Gabriel, for the tour, I do not see the Selectors leaving out Campbell just after he scores a fifty and I do not see them taking Hope, who has not had the opportunity to show he is ready to return to Test cricket, although he could be selected for the ODI's. It is a toss up between Warrican and Permaul for the extra spinner, but either would fine as a selection.

Chase certainly will go, as most of him Test runs were made against Asian countries and I think he is a good spinner, but it is IMO a toss up on the other spinners, they are all of the same quality so whoever is selected would not make much of a difference.

Based on official selection criteria, Permaul kore than deserves his chance. It was a grave injustice to omit him from the England tour....even as a reserve squad member.

Other than Sunil, the region don’t have top teir spinners... To be honest, permaul did well in the last regional tourney; and if selection is based on merit - he deserves to be in the team. Windies will stink, so permaul will either lessen or increase the stench if selected...
I definitely don’t agreed with Reds Gabriel omission... he’s our best bowler.

I am of the same opinion that Reds was under the influence of something when he expressed those thoughts, the most alarming one was when he said that Gabriel should be excluded because conditions will not suit him.
