West Indies white-ball captain Kieron Pollard suffered a muscle injury to his left thigh in the match against Bangladesh and will be assessed ahead of their crucial T20 World Cup match against Sri Lanka on Thursday.

On Friday, the 34-year-old Pollard walked off the field in the 13th over of the West Indies innings against Bangladesh but returned later to smash the last ball of the inning for six runs that proved to be crucial in the context of the Caribbean side’s narrow three-run win.

"He looks fine; the medical team is still working with him but he should be okay. You can see why he's a wonderful leader, walking back in to hit that last-ball six. We try to be someone like that in the future," Pooran said.

However, CWI, in a brief statement on Monday, shed further light on the health of the captain.

“Kieron Pollard sustained a muscle injury to his left thigh in the match against Bangladesh,” the statement said.

Pollard is shirking as captain - he doesn't want to go down as the absolute lame-duck captain.

By handing over the duties to Pooran (Bravo) means he washed his hands off t20i Cricket; therefore, he cannot be responsible from here on out.

Come on, Polly old boy, face the music as a man and stop the nonsense, faking that proverbial injury. What the...

Why is this narrative about Pollard's six being a crucial element in the win being constantly repeated. In the end he made 14 runs off 18 balls, compared to Holder's 15 off 5. Not to mention the substantive innings of Pooran and Chase. The fact that 6 of his runs came off the last ball should not give him hero status, especially when he abandoned ship when the going was rough. If he had a thigh injury and couldn't run he could have attempted some six hitting early on and not soak up so many balls (8 runs off 17 balls) or cause dressing room panic with his oddly timed retirement.

I think Fletcher should get a game as well, if you've taken him might as well play him and see. Not that our batting has been firing, anyway
