Legacy of Black Cowboys

They introduced the name Cowboys

African Americans were actually the first to proudly use the label “cowboys,” and this line of work could be a Black man's ticket to freedom, according to Robinson.

“After the Civil War, a lot of the cowboys started out on their own, because they left their slave owners," he said. "Some of them branched out on their own and bought ranches."

Some additional info. May actually support the article as Mexican labourers, even in those early times, were considered unappealing to European settlers.

Bass Reeves was considered the first black Texas Ranger in the 1680’s. it is believed the Lone Ranger story is based on him.

No limits to appropriation. Maybe that's why he wore a black mask, though Bass wore many disguises.

Besides, what are the odds of a black man with the name Bass?
lol lol lol

There are quite a few cattle trails first traversed by black cowboys. Some trails bare their names, however depicted as white in the movies. Unfortunately do not recall any of the names.

It's estimated that 25% of all cowboys were black.

Most likely a higher percentage. At the time slavery was abolished approximately 60% of the population in the U.S. was black. Hence the reason for mass migration from Europe when realization dawned that political power could potentially change hands.

where do the names of every single descendant of An African slave born in The so-called 'New World' get their name from? Bass was a Bad-John who if he knew his origins probably woulda named himself Babatunde Olatunji
