Because Gabriel is closing in on 34 years old…how many out and out fast bowlers do you see playing at that age? Furthermore Gabriel has been plagued with fitness issues and is rarely able to bowl more than a 4 over spell..in his most recent match the captain was unable to call on him after he bowled his 1st 4 over spell for at least a session and a half….we cant afford that luxury…
Gabriel tries hard and has had a few shining moments but sadly those are few and far between as his bowling average of almost 32 would indicate…pace is important but pace alone will not suffice…he doesn’t seem to have another arrow in his quiver….
Seales is the future along with Nial Smith and Preston McSween…..
By the way Kemar Roach who is already the grandfather of our bowling attack is younger than Gabriel….we cant afford to have 2 senior citizens spearheading our attack…

Hetmeyer and Pooran will have the opportunity to make a statement during the upcoming regional 1st class season…..surely the selectors will be looking at alternatives to Hope and Chase…
As it relates to the spinner spot - the question is should they play Chase as a bowling allrounder - or play Permaul - the specialist ….the conditions in the WI are less conducive to spin - although Permaul has a very good record in the domestic competition over the years…
If they play Chase as a spinner the lineup could be…

It would be unfair to drop Permaul however..at a minimum he has earned a decent run on the back of his performance in Sri Lanka
