Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams says Cricket West Indies (CWI) intends to do all in its power to ensure the first-class championship is staged next year, in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While CWI hosted several international series this year, the emergence of the latest Omicron strain of COVID-19 has once again raised speculation over lockdowns across the region but Adams said the four-day tournament remained a “priority”.

“Having not had first-class cricket in too long, we now have on paper a plan to roll out first-class cricket in early February and starting with that, from a regional point of view, that is a priority. That is something that is top of our wish list for next year,” Adams said.

they need to every other cricketing test nation having their regionals.
We will get left behind if we don't take some sort of action.
COVID nah go nowhere and we can't live in a bubble pretending it's going to just burst and disappear.

We should have our regional competition in January instead of Ireland. Come on man since 2019 we haven’t had out first class tournament while our players have toured around the world and, during the covid era we have hosted quite a few international teams. So I don’t want to hear anything about covid. I am tired of the embarrassment of our players

hopefully health and safety take priority

mandatory vaccination or no selection should be the mantra across all the regional boards

There has been various talk of rounds 1-3 having Guyana, T&T and Leewards playing away because they are host venues for the U-19 CWC, a couple of rounds being held in Barbados and the tournament being restricted to 5 rounds.
