HEADLINE: Fit-again Paul hoping to force way back into Windies squad consideration

West Indies all-rounder Keemo Paul has his heart set on a return to international cricket after closing in on peak physical condition.

Despite being one of the region’s top prospects, the 23-year-old has not played for the West Indies since 2020.  Paul opted out of the team’s tour of England in 2020 but appeared against New Zealand in T20 internationals at the end of that same year.  He has not been seen on the international stage since.

“I am feeling excellent, I think I needed this to get back out there and bowl a few overs to get the feel of four-day cricket. My body is responding really well and for me personally, I am feeling really happy with where I am right now. I bowled a few overs on the trot, I was not feeling tired, I just wanted to put a few balls in the right area and it’s coming out really nice and I am happy with that,” Paul recently told the Guyana Times.

All the best to him. If he manages his talent (especially his batting) well, he should achieve the success he deserved. He needs to ease up with trying to be a pace bowler. He just does not have the physique, or head, for it. He could swing a red ball really well, nut otherwise he should stay away from bowling.

Keemo Paul has played 22 first class matches and has taken 88 wickets at 18.31 apiece. He has 3-5wickets in an innings and 1-10 wicket in a match.
His strike rate is34.55.

I would be very surprised if any other current WI bowler with more than 25 wickets has a better strike rate.He is 23 years old.

Your comment that he could swing a red ball but..... reminds me of the guy who said he does not rate Dale Steyn because he only bowls out swingers.

Keemo breaks down regularly, trying to be a good pace bowler in the format he plays most often, T20 cricket. As a result, he lost his IPL gig, etc, because he could not delivery on his bowling. His T20 bowling stinks, and his regular fitness issues more often than not even wind costing him even his red ball opportunities. So, why persist with trying to be a pace bowl, because he has remarkable first class bowling stat? what good are those stats, if he cannot bowl most of the time, or if his bowling stink to the high heavens when he does get a chance to bowl.
Keemo needs to focus on his batting. That bowling thing will kill whatever is left of his cricket career.
