HEADLINE: Butcher calls for a cricket overhaul

West Indies cricket needs an overhaul, says former Barbados and England cricketer Roland Butcher, after the regional side was stunned 2-1 by Ireland who came from behind to win the series this past weekend.

Describing it as a bad loss especially on home soil against a team who has only managed in the history of cricket to pick up series wins against Zimbabwe and Afghanistan, Butcher said this is not a good sign for the Caribbean side who are preparing for the International Cricket Council’s T20 World Cup scheduled for later this year in Australia.

to you and Mr. Butcher, what is the incentive for the territories, they don't play internationally, how much money is there for them. If this is up to the territories they may see better opportunities in other sports.

Roland is preaching to this choirboy.
I've been mad with the BCA with the devaluation of cricket in the Island, now fix the structure you can fix, let the Bca get back to developing world class players.

I have listened to many former test players on the way forward but the best I have heard so far is from Tony Gray and it could be seen on The Daily Express re “Change the coaches “. Here are a few quotes “you have to fire the batting coach because he has not been doing a good job at all. What we have is some batsmen coming into the game and they are depreciating in talent and confidence.” In reference to Desmond Haynes and Sarwan as selectors Gray said” We should have put Dr Haynes as batting director throughout the region…looking at all aspects of batsmanship at all levels “. Then he went on to say “ we can’t maximize his knowledge as a lead selector because that’s not directly dealing with the batsmen of the region. Selectors are supposed to be getting the finished product…and we have seen unequivocally that the product is not finished by a long way.”

At this time I feel both Dr Haynes and Sarwan should reject the offer and force CWI to put them in a position where they can contribute to the future of our cricket in a more direct way. Who are the players to be selected? Do we even have quality players for Dr Haynes and Sarwan to select? We have lost some of the best prospects like Hetmyer, Bravo etc and right now emphasis should be on getting them right again and help identify and develop new prospects. We need to get Cortney Walsh, Lara, Gordon Greenidge Chanderpaul and the Benjamin’s involved to help us. I didn’t mention Ambrose because he is only good at criticizing
