West Indies ODI captain Shai Hope ended his three-match stint with English County Championship side Yorkshire County Cricket Club with an unbeaten half-century in their drawn match against Sussex on Sunday.

The 29-year-old had a fairly successful run with the Division II County Cricket side, scoring 13 and 83 in a loss to Leicestershire and 38 and 53 not out in a draw against Sussex. Yorkshire’s match against Gloucestershire was abandoned.

Notwithstanding the short run, Hope said he had a good time playing league cricket.

Seems to reading the tea leaves,Shai is in the A team to tour Bangladesh next month, possibly as captain.

You have complained in the past that Shai Hope doesn’t play enough red ball cricket which is why his test average is what it is

Now that he’s had this short stint with Yorkshire, how many regional 4 days matches you think would be equivalent to his Yorkshire tenure?

You may think the ideal situation would be for him to play as much 4 day cricket as possible.

But given the reality, Is he better off playing 2nd division 4 day cricket in Yorkshire for a brief period?

Or play a full domestic season of 4 day cricket?

I suspect that so-called second division county cricket is more difficult to negotiate than our domestic competition minus our stars.
He would probably derive more confidence hitting a century in England than doing the same against familiar players he has dominated in the past
Difficult to blame him for finally trying his hand in franchise cricket but I am pleased that he is back on board probably to lead the A team in Bangladesh.

Listening to Roland Holder this evening, Hope and Dowrich ask permission to play cricket in England, and was given.
Hope is playing fr Yorkshire and Dowrich League cricket.
We wii soon see the team selected, Holder also said that CWI have Scouts that assist the selectors.

I would tend to agree.

Which is why I believe playing just red ball cricket, particularly in our domestic competition as it stands and has stood for years, is not going to improve any of our players.

Better they play better quality cricket…against and with quality opposition and teammates…..even if it’s white ball cricket….than domestic red ball cricket.

I think he missed the majority of the domestic season due to T/20 and International commitments.

He scored a couple of centuries at Headingly and being a competent keeper probably helped Yorkshire with the balance of the side.

If any player from the Caribbean was to be offered county cricket during the domestic cricket season they should take it.

Different conditions, better facilities, taking on different players, the opportunity to work with different coaches etc.
