PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — Head Coach Andre Coley said Tuesday, West Indies remains a "popular brand" despite their first Test thrashing at the hands of superpowers India, and urged players to have clarity and self-belief as they gear up for Thursday's start of the second Test at Queen's Park Oval here.

The Caribbean side suffered an inning- and 141-run defeat inside three days in the opening Test in Dominica last week to extend their unenviable record of having not won a Test against the Indians in two decades.

And with the heavy defeat following on the heels of the team's failure to qualify for the 50-overs World Cup earlier this month, Coley said how West Indies acquit themselves going forward is now critical.

"West Indies brand is still a popular brand; the world enjoys when we play at our best," he told a media huddle here.

"Yes, we have had some disappointments in the recent weeks and months but it is an opportunity for us to be better, review what has gone before, and then just look ahead."

He continued: "Belief in yourself as individuals and as a team is massive. Having a clear plan and sticking with it, that's really going to be very important.

I was in shock when I watched the first test and the island of Dominica was printed on all the player’s shirts. Since the match was played in Dominica I thought well Skerrit must have bought the first test. But when I got up today for the 2nd test at Port of Spain Trinidad and Dominica once again printed on the players shirt I then had to ask myself if West Indies was now Dominica or if Skerrit bought the two tests series especially in light of former test bowler and cricket commentator brought to light the alleged funds that were funneled to cricket West Indies through Dominica.. I really don’t like what I am seeing because it’s very disturbing. Honestly it reminds me of the billionaire Kerry Parker who changed the cricketing world in the 70’s. Seems like West Indies have found their own Kerry Parker. That’s what is disturbing the West Indies “Cricket brand”Mr Coley

Andre Coley needs to be quiet. No team with him and Darren Sammy at the helm will EVER go anywhere in test cricket. The fact that the players are inadequate makes it worse.

The popular brand was seen in the huge crowds of spectators at the Queens Park Oval. He must be managing some other brand.

Following a short First Class career, André embarked on the process of becoming a certified cricket coach and is accredited to the WICB Level 2 and Cricket Australia Level 3 Programmes. Following relative success at the national junior representative level, having coached the Jamaican Under 15 and Under 19 from 2006 to 2009, he was appointed Head Coach of the WI Under 19 ICC World Cup Squad in 2010 where the Team finished third.[1]

In 2010, he became a member of the inaugural management unit tasked with the implementation and execution of the West Indies High Performance Centre Programme at UWI Cavehill, Barbados.[2] Coley was later appointed an assistant and performance coach to the West Indies Women’s Squad on several tours and ICC Tournaments.

Coley has also held the position of Assistant Coach to the West Indies Men’s Squad, a position he held between October 2012 and June 2017 with the primary role of facilitating the continued development of the wicket-keepers and fielders throughout the various squads.
He also was appointed as the assistant coach of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) outfits, the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in 2016 and the St. Lucia Stars in 2017. He later became head coach of the Windwards Islands Volcanoes in August 2017, a role he held for a span of two years. Coley was then appointed head coach of the Jamaica Scorpions for the start of the 2019-20 regional cricketing season. In August 2022 Coley took up the role as West Indies 'A' team head coach and was also assigned as a member of the coaching staff for the Cricket West Indies (CWI) high performance programme.[3] On 21 December 2022 Coley was appointed as interim head coach of the West Indies men's cricket team.[4]

Has been coach for over a decade....has certificate unlike Sammy...has been attached to CWI under different administration....he knows the nuances of working with CWI...just like Jimmy ex- Director...til date credentials are next to nothing in achievements....Sammy atleast a great man management & has good Assistant Coaches...

You guys can continue to waste energy dreaming, hoping and cussing the West Indies team, but what you don't seem to realize is that it's over for West Indies cricket. It will only get worse from this point on. West Indies cricket has been on warp drive downwards since the days of Lara (South Africa), then Bravo (India), followed by these greedy, prideless money-grabbers. Yes, the final nail is being driven by franchise t/20 cricket.This brand of cricket is here to stay and WI cricket will never be resurrected.
