Prime Minister Mia Mottley has called for a complete overhaul of the current governance structure of West Indies cricket.

Mottley made the frank suggestion while delivering the 22nd Frank Worrell Memorial lecture on Tuesday night, citing the continuing decline of the regional men’s cricket team across all formats.

Speaking before an audience that included West Indies head coaches Daren Sammy and Andre Coley, assistant coach Floyd Reifer, Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite, president of the Barbados Cricket Association Conde Riley and vice-chancellor of UWI, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Mottley emphasised the significance of cricket in the context of regional integration.

The outspoken Prime Minister described the West Indies’ recent failure to qualify for the ICC ODI World Cup as the straw that broke the camel’s back.

“We are playing the fool. I do not cast blame on any single person, but I am reaching out to an entire civilisation and its people,” Mottley told the packed Roy Marshall Teaching Complex at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.

How many times have we heard that. Then WI wins two games or our hommie in charge and all is quiet again

She was talking to the wrong audience there. Look at the list. All cricket-enablers who have failed to enable.

That’s right my Caribbean PM, I am agreeing with you, maybe only you can help to straighten up CWI and implement management oversight.

I don’t even want to hear these power hungry and corrupt Caribbean leaders. They were the same ones that hijacked LIAT, the once powerful Caribbean airline company and destroyed it. While I am upset with the management, coaches and players for the decline of cricket, I would like Mottley to ask her fellow comrades what is the state of cricket in their various countries and what are they doing to revive it. In some of the islands they don’t even have school cricket program or school league in the elementary school and yet, these prime minister friends of Ms Mottley ran to legalize ganja without putting anything in place to protect our young school boys and get them on the field

Her audience needed to include PM Rowley and those other influential PM's on CARICOM cricket c'ttee! Glad Conde was in there to hear he playing the fool too! Thing is WI pass that stage now. WI playing the ass now and when you do that yuh does get nuff cut tail as is the case long now!

On the plus side, IF Mia put her mind to it and really gets involved, it might just offer hope to the masses.
