SPEEDING TICKET

Dukes 2023-07-31 17:06:16

On Thursday I was stopped at a traffic light and when the light changed to green I floored the accelerator and got up to 80 in no time and it seemed like 2 seconds later a police siren was behind me.
The cop gave me a ticket for $276 and I asked him if I would have points on my license and he said yes.He also said that option 4 would allow me to attend an online driving course which if I passed I would not have any points.
Dutifully I did the on line driving course which took me 8 hours,5 on Friday evening and 3 on Saturday morning.
This morning I went to the Court and I was out of there in 15 minutes. The fine was reduced to $251.50 and I will have no points on my license.
I have learnt my lesson and will not speed again. It is not worth it.
My first speeding ticket in 50 years of driving will be my last.My father always told me not to make the same mistake twice.
I could blame the car but it was my folly, being caught up in the thrill of the speed of the car.

There is no fool like an old fool!!!!!!!!!

I received one ticket in my life and it was thrown out in court. Di cop was looking money from me because he failed to,stop the car that was speeding ahead of me.
Be careful - dem racist cops in dat state hate to see black men in nice cars.

If you have not already paid the fine, and if you have the time, it might be worth it to hire one of those lawyers who charge $99 to represent you in traffic court. The lawyer will file an appearance and delay the hearing. And if you are lucky, the cop who issued the ticket will not show up for the hearing and the speeding ticket will be dismissed. Either that, or s/he will get the fine reduced or eliminated with no points on your license.

Of course, nothing posted above is based on personal experience because I have never gotten a speeding ticket in my life smile

In reply to Dukes Passed!? Mate, you just have to attend the course & participate in any of the discussions. If you had any quiz or tests...they arent pass or fail!

cool

Dukes 2023-07-31 21:27:01

In reply to BeatDball

There were 7 modules and a test. The test was 40 questions and you had to get 80% to pass. I got 92 %.

BeatDball 2023-07-31 21:33:18

In reply to Dukes Someone did allude to the fact that you are in Florida...well, in NY (Bluer than blue), you just have to attend and participate...as in, 'Dukes, read the first paragraph or Read question 2 in the section on 'Do not tailgate' of the Defensive Driving booklet and try to answer it!' Btw, I was certified to teach that course!

cool

In reply to Dukes Good for you ole chap. Btw, those 4 points...are not really deleted from your driving record...they are not counted towards suspension (NYS) and your insurance company still knows what the infractions were on those tickets!!!

Ps. Say, your license has 7 points...after the course, the State will look at your license as having 3 points. Of course, if you get 11 points in an 18 month period, your license - gaan to cove & John! Well, if you get a good lawyer...in 1999, i was caught doing 107mph on the LIE! If wasnt for the lawyer...you guessed it - i would have been in Cove & John!
big grin

The course is a good course as it reinforces and augments safe driving. We cannot forget that you will save 10% of your insurance each year for 3 years! All insurance MUST honor that course certificate when you present it to them!

a. I live here and didn't know there was an online course. Went to one described by BdB about 15yrs ago.
b. I did mention that in those cars it is hard not to do 80...but I was talking freeway lol
Last week I did a 10hr round trip and each time someone whizzed by me and I looked at my speed (don't use cruise control) I was doing 85. Yet, they went by me and was out of sight in seconds and that's straight road in the valley. Guess they were doing close to 100!

In reply to DukeStreet A few years back several BMW were catching fire like that, and these were cars with regular engines.

In reply to camos
False narrative. It's well known that gas and diesel (ICE) vehicles are 10x more likely to catch fire than EV cars BUT when EVs catch fire, the fire is way harder to control and re-ignite occasionally. In addition, fossil fuel vehicles (gas and diesel) tend to only catch on fire during accidents and while driving, not while sitting passively in someone's garage or charging station.

I'm not arguing which type of car is safer to drive. It's probably safer to operate a Tesla than a regular gas guzzler but there is an inherent and deadly safety issue (as minuscule as it may seem) in parking any EV in or around any housing structure.

cool

Yes Dukes, floor dat sucker!

But I'm sure you miss the noise from all that torque though.

Dukes 2023-08-12 14:26:42

In reply to Drapsey

You can be lulled into a false sense of security from the law because you do not realize how fast you are going because there is no noise. When you accelerate it is like the feeling when you are in a jet about to take off. However after that 250 dollar fine and that 8 hour course I have learnt my lesson.
