HEADLINE: Sammy wants 'culture change' in West Indies

WEST Indies T20 and 50-over coach Daren Sammy is asking for patience as a "cultural change" is needed to see a turnaround in results.

Sammy was speaking after West Indies defeated India by eight wickets in Florida to seal the five-match T20 series 3-2. It was just one of few bright sparks for West Indies cricket over the past year as results have been tough to come by. West Indies sunk to an all-time low last month, failing to qualify for the ICC World Cup 50-Over tournament for the first time in history.

"Obviously myself and (Test coach Andre) Coley just got to the job. This is a lot of work," Sammy said. "We've had meetings with the president (Dr Kishore Shallow), the new director (Miles Bascombe), the CEO (Johnny Grave) on how we could impact change – not only the players, but the system in general.

"Having better facilities for the guys to train, the preparation, the attitude towards fitness...too many times guys are on the physio table (injured). All of this is the culture shift we need to see happen."

We want a high quality coach confused

Patience we have in abundance of because it’s been a while we have been in the bottom of the barrel.
While I agree with some of the measures the Coach highlighted the fact of the matter is, if we play the right team we will win in Test, ODI and T20. If the team that played this T 20 series had played in the T20 World Cup qualifiers and the ODI WC qualifiers, I believe we had a good chance of winning both WC tournaments I also believe that if Pooran, Hetmyer, Hope , King and Bravo were in our test squad we would have been doing much better than we are doing now. But when we have selectors that have picked players they like and dump those they don’t like before time like Darren Bravo Hope and Hetty in particular that’s what we going get. So in my opinion our selectors are letting us down more than facilities

What do you mean by high quality coach? All we need is a coach that knows how to win and as captain, though not a high quality player he won two World Cup finals. Too many times we put titles ahead of abilities like we did with Hon Desmond Haynes, who can’t put a good team together. Our last series win against India was in 2016 and God Knows when was the last time we won back to back T20 series against two quality teams. Under coach Sammy we achieved both yesterday! I now want to see us win ODI games but I feel we need to make Powell captain of ODI’s as well instead of Hope
