To make matters worse, over 2.5 million tons of methane gas were emitted at Keele Valley landfill site during this same period. Methane is much more toxic and damaging to the environment than CO2. Clearly, no one ever cleaned up the garbage dumped at the Keele Valley landfill site, and it is emitting large amounts of harmful greenhouse gases on an ongoing basis, even to this day.

Last year, the bugs swarmed the field and stands at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland as the Browns and Los Angeles Chargers played.
They were unplanned guests at a now infamous major league baseball game in 2007 between the Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees, dubbed “Bug Game,” when swarms of them descended on the ballpark.
Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain famously became engulfed on the mound during Game 2 of the AL Division Series. Chamberlain was rattled by the midges and uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Cleveland to tie the game in the eighth inning. Players reported midges being “all over your car” after games, and tried unsuccessfully to swat them away when the midges would land on them during the game.
In 2001, thousands of aphids descended on the Rogers Centre, causing one of the umpires to call for the roof to be closed. The L.A. Times reported Toronto Blue Jays player Jeff Frye donned a dust mask while in the dugout and that many fans cleared the stands early in the game.
“All the players were miserable,” Toronto manager Buck Martinez told the Times. “It was in their eyes and mouth. It was a very uncomfortable situation.”
On Aug. 27, 1990, the Blue Jays and the Milwaukee Brewers had to contend with a 35-minute bug delay at the Rogers Centre (then SkyDome) and forced the closure of the roof.

Hundreds of thousands of Canadians are consuming tap water laced with high levels of lead leaching from aging and deteriorating infrastructure.
A year-long investigation by more than 120 journalists from nine universities and 10 media organizations, including the Toronto Star and the Institute for Investigative Journalism, collected test results that properly measure exposure to lead in 11 cities across Canada. Out of 12,000 tests since 2014, one third — 33 per cent —exceeded the national safety guideline of 5 parts per billion.
Reporters also fanned out to 32 cities and towns across the country — from Victoria, B.C., to Grand Pre, N.S. — to knock on doors in neighborhoods with older homes. With the help of residents who volunteered to take part, the teams conducted 260 water tests using accepted standards and submitted samples to accredited labs. The results showed 39 per cent of samples exceeded the current federal guideline.

The winter is always dirtiest but the city has been markedly dirtier since Covid began. The amount of litter and dog crap has really become problematic.
Toronto has always been gross like this in Feb but the unusually warm winters for the past few years have been hiding it.
I blame the dog shit on the pandemic puppy boom. Lots of first time dog owners.
The streets of Toronto are so disgusting at the moment. I don’t think we have a dedicated team of people that cleans the sidewalk either so trash just builds up. There’s so much dog poop everywhere it’s utterly disgusting. I’m more disgusted at the owners who can’t pick up after their dog.

The study looked at Yelp reviews on each venue’s hygiene that featured the words “dirty,” “gross” and “filthy” and divided them by the total number of reviews posted. It also looked at the number of food safety violations based on the percentage of food outlets in each stadium with stats provided by ESPN.

The announcement that Toronto Police officers will now be riding the Red Rocket is welcome news, but we have to face the fact that what is happening on the TTC is happening across the city.
In the first three weeks of 2023, Toronto Police Service reports that major crimes are up 37.7% compared with the same period in 2022. Every category of crime other than homicide is up dramatically — auto thefts are up 61.2%, assaults are up 37.8%, sexual violations are up 43.5% and robberies 40.2%.
How can it be that between Jan. 1 and last Sunday, we had 1,215 assaults in this city, or 178 sexual crimes reported? Yet the stats are clear: So far, 2023 is the worst crime year in the last half-decade.

Residents of a downtown Toronto community are on the lookout for a man they believe has been defecating on their lawns, sidewalks, and in the playground of a local elementary school.
No less than 15 flyers have been posted around Soho Square (the townhouses just north of Queen West and Peter streets) to warn locals about the alleged serial pooper and his method of attack.
"Please be aware that this man is defecating publicly in the neighbourhood early in the morning," it reads. "There are local facilities for him to do his business in, and for the health and safety of everyone he must be stopped!"
