five million bees on di loose!

Police near Toronto have warned drivers to keep their car windows closed after a truck spilled crates carrying five million bees on to a road.

Halton regional police said they received a call about 6.15am on Wednesday reporting the bee crates had come loose from a truck and spilled on to a road in Burlington, Ontario.

“We’re not sure how or what exactly took place but at some point the boxes containing bees or beehives slid off the trailer and spilled all over the road,” Constable Ryan Anderson, told CBC News.

Since the ministry sent in its bee catching personnel, the majority of these bees have been captured. A few of the humans experienced excruciating stinging. Some of the fugitive rogues bees that escaped will be permitted to return home.

The bees in question are responsible for both honey production and the pollination of various crops such as fruit trees, soybeans, canola, corn, and others in the region of Southern Ontario.Farmers require them.

On my farm, there are approximately seven boxes, also known as hives, which are annually placed by a local beekeeper. As the temperatures begin to decline, indicating the arrival of the fall season, the bees exhibit a decrease in activity and are subsequently relocated to a barn for the duration of the winter period. The residual honey remaining in the hive is subsequently gathered, and a centrifuge is employed for the extraction process.
The bees are reintroduced throughout the spring season. These transportation events take place annually. The issue transpired at the intersection of Dundas Street and Guelph Line, in proximity to the Niagara Escarpment.I live approx 50 kms away. This locale mostly has a limited number of residences, predominantly inhabited by farmers who exhibit no apprehension towards the matter. This is not a problem, the majority will go back to the Queen Bee box , the rogues will find other homes.

This beekeeper will suffer a significant loss. Most likely he has insurance

Africanized honeybees (Apis mellifera scutella), sometimes called killer bees, are well known for being more moody and defensive than other honeybees. The good news is that they do not live as far north as Canada.Only female bees sting.
