when TKR beat allyuh....the government might have to declare a national holiday yes. The kinda negative energy allyuh put into this tournament against TKR(the embodiment of all the evil) only to come second or third. We have to play Guyana on Saturday first. Should be a good game although Trinidad traditionally doesn’t do well on the glue patch. They’ll have to bat really well to win. I think TT has only one twice there…….but we have lost at Providence and come back and won the tournament.

Guyana having 4 matches is both a good and bad thing. Four matches is a lot. Patriots were rubbish this year so they will lose to Warriors. They have a TKR match and it’s at providence so they also go in as favorites. Talawahs really beat them last year at home so I think this game is actually the least predictable. The royals game wouldn’t be as close as the game at Brian Lara Academy because the Providence wicket takes more turn than BL Academy ground, at least this year. Kings could present a challenge as well, although they have not been the same since faf left

This T20 format is about luck than total performance, I am from the Sir Everton Weekes school of batting, which say, you can only get caught if you hit the ball in air, there are too many aerial balls for my liking, and so much risk batting.

6:32pm It's time for the toss. Tahir gives it a flick. King calls heads it but it comes down as tails. The Guyana Amazon Warriors will bowl first. Tahir says they were happy to do anything but with dew possibly being a factor, he wanted to bowl first. Adds that the opening combination has been a bit up and down, and that they are trying to improve one. A solitary change for them - Nandu comes in for Sinclair. King, unaware that the Tallawahs have never lost five in a row, reckons they have been losing crucial moments in the matches they have lost and says it is about winning those moments. Quite a few changes for the Tallawahs, with one of them forced as Mohammad Amir misses this game due to illness.


The Warriors are the only team to still be unbeaten this season, having won five of their six games (the other was a washout). They are also the only team to have played six matches, which means they can accumulate many points in the fixtures that remain, especially on their home patch.

So far, their batting has worked a charm, with almost everyone contributing. In their most recent encounter, Saim Ayub starred with a half-century. Shai Hope has been consistent too, while the likes of Keemo Paul, Odean Smith, Romario Shepherd and Shimron Hetmyer add plenty of muscle to the lower middle order. Azam Khan has endured a bit of a lean run, although he remains one of the cleanest ball-strikers in the CPL and capable of turning things around in a trice.

As for the Tallawahs, their season began superbly and they registered two wins very early. Since then, though, they have not tasted victory and are currently on a four-match losing streak. With the Barbados Royals also huffing and puffing, the Tallawahs are very much in contention and are just two points behind the Royals, despite having played two lesser games.

So, a win tonight will take them level. For that to happen, however, they need their batters to fire in unison. Against the Trinbago Knight Riders in their last fixture, they stuttered and stumbled to a middling total - a total that was ultimately hunted down with ease. The Tallawahs are not short of firepower but they need to break out of the rut that has engulfed them over the past fortnight if they are to sneak into the playoffs.

The brief for the Warriors is a lot more straightforward (and perhaps boring). One win (out of four matches) will ensure a top-two berth and a date with the Trinbago Knight Riders in Qualifier 1. That will also give them two shots at reaching the final, were they to lose to the Knight Riders. With a passionate home crowd geeing them up, they would hope to secure that top-two finish at the first time of asking tonight.

Chris Green, Jamaica Tallawahs all-rounder: It is familiar territory for us. We have things in our own control, if we win our remaining games, we will qualify. We have not played at our best yet but if we can win those games, we can become a dangerous side. I love playing here at the Providence Stadium and looking forward to experience the atmosphere. I know my role with the ball is pretty flexible and I enjoy that challenge. With that challenge, comes the opportunity to be successful. Just about executing, keeping the ball as dry as possible and with the bat, trying to score as many as possible.


Let's see what the conditions have in store for us. The ground is slightly bigger than the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, with the square boundaries being 71m and 69m. The straight hit is 78m. Ian Bishop says the pitch looks dry and there are cracks, although the wicket looks hard. An interesting looking pitch, according to him and he hopes there are runs in store.

8:30pm The Tallawahs have huffed and puffed their way to 152, which is well short of what the average first-innings score in night games at this venue was last season, but does give them something to play with. King sizzled at the top of the order with a 32-ball 52 but there was not much support from those around him. In fact, it was only after Allen and Reifer joined hands that the Tallawahs were able to generate any sort of momentum.


Credit must also be given to how the Warriors bowled. After an indifferent powerplay, their spinners, led by captain Tahir, pulled things back. Motie was also superb and accounted for King to further dent the Tallawahs. Towards the end, they conceded a few boundaries that it was largely an accomplished bowling display.

Spurred on by a raucous crowd, they will be confident of hunting this total down. The Tallawahs, though, have three good spinners in their ranks, meaning that this run-chase should be interesting. Join us in a bit!

Dwaine Pretorius: (On the conditions) Thought the wicket was quite good, came onto the bat nicely. We pulled it back really well and we did a good job to keep them to that total. (On the crowd support) This is much louder (than Tarouba), cannot really hear you (smiles). Hopefully we can chase this score down. I trust our guys, they have been doing a good job (this season).

10:15pm A fairly comfortable win for the Warriors, fuelled by Ayub getting his third successive fifty in the CPL. The left-hander, now also the leading run-scorer this season, bossed the middle overs, hitting the Tallawahs bowlers to all parts. Nandu, on debut, also played his role, rotating strike nicely and putting together a 100-run opening stand - the first this campaign for the Warriors. That effectively broke the back of the run-chase and while the Tallawahs got a few wickets towards the end, it always seemed a case of too little, too late.


It was a familiar story for the Tallawahs. They stuttered and stumbled with the bat, only getting up to a middling total. Their bowlers then lacked incision and allowed the Warriors to run away with the game. The Tallawahs have now lost five games on the spin (the first time in their history), and will need to pick themselves back up soon if they are to sneak into the playoffs.

Saim Ayub, Player of the Match: It was a match-winning innings and I try that whenever I score runs, we win the match. (On the pitch) It is a bit difficult. When you go into bat, you have to choose your bowlers. You have to assess the pitch. (On Nandu) He is a talented youngster and has a lot of shots. He played a fabulous innings, remained calm and that is the big thing. (On what lies ahead) If we win the final, that will be the big thing.

In the last eight overs of the innings, we faltered. The pitch was not very easy to bat on. 170-180 would have been challenging. We did not start well with the ball either. (On not being able to carry on after a good start) I want to bat deep, it is better for the team as well. Disappointed not to do that. (On losing five in a row) Analysing the game. We have not had a complete game with the bat yet. We know what the problems are and if we can correct that, we will have a greater chance of winning.

That said, they might not be very happy with how the first 15 overs panned out. Ayub struggled (for a change), as did Hope. They also left their onslaught late, despite the firepower at their disposal, amplified by Shepherd just facing four balls and Smith not batting at all.


The Kings, meanwhile, would be ruing a missed opportunity. Having kept the Warriors to 95 in 15 overs, they could have easily restricted them to a sub-150 total. Now, they have a bit more work to do with the bat, although with the resources at their disposal, they will be hopeful of getting the job done.

With both teams feeling they are in with a shout, this game is on a knife-edge (sorry for stating the obvious). That means a cracking second innings awaits, which will bring to you very shortly!

Matthew Forde: For me, Guyana is an up-and-down wicket and I was trying to keep it as simple as possible. (On the wicket of Hope) The captain called upon me for a breakthrough and luckily it went to plan. (On what he did during his time away from the game) That was the hardest time of my life. But it was also the hardest I ever worked in the gym. It is about staying fit and being out on the park. (On the score) I think Guyana picked up a bit of momentum towards the end but I am backing my guys to get it done. It is a little tricky (the pitch). Getting set is the key. Runs came easier at the back end.

10:24pm The Kings did it at a canter really, and much of that was down to Rajapaksa, who returned to the eleven and played an astounding innings. When he was at the crease, the ball flew to all parts and he took the game on, eventually finishing with a 49-ball 86. Munro appeared a lot scratchier throughout his essay but clung on, stitching together a vital 132-run partnership with Rajapaksa - a stand that took the game beyond the Warriors.

Speaking of the Warriors, they took the bold decision of batting first, knowing that conditions to bat will be tougher and that bowling will get harder later in the evening. That can certainly not be faulted, considering they have already secured a top-two finish. What they will be disappointed with is how they fielded. Pretorius dropped the most high-profile chance (when Rajapaksa was on 3, while there were several other bits of sloppy fielding too. The good thing is that the Warriors, because of how this season has otherwise gone, can brush this aside as an anomaly and come back refreshed on Saturday.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa, unsurprisingly, is the Player of the Match for his 49-ball 86. Here is what he has to say: (His reaction to Sri Lanka's win over Pakistan) We made a match out of nowhere, always good to give spectators their money's worth. Really happy we qualified (for the final). (Preparation for this game) Before the match, we spoke about playing a knock to remember and just go at it. (On the vibe in the camp) It has always been nice. The team has been quite united. We knew we needed two points out of the two games and happy that we got it before the last game. (On Kings' last match clashing with the Asia Cup final) The timings are different but hopefully I can keep up (with the scores in the Asia Cup final).

The Kings, by the way, have also now qualified for the playoffs, meaning that the Barbados Royals and the Jamaica Tallawahs have to fight for the one spot that remains. The Royals are two points ahead but have played a game more than the Tallawahs. So, this could go down to the wire.

Always thought if we could contain our extras, we would have a better chance. (On Joseph) He is just bringing heat after heat. No substitute for pace. He adjusted his lengths really well. Couple of bad balls don't define your spell. We always ask him to bowl the critical overs of the game. He has been brilliant with the new ball but today we trusted him with the old ball. Wicket of Hope was crucial. We have been trying to get him (Rajapaksa) in but it has been difficult because of all the others that were playing well. Today, we had him (in the eleven) and it was a beautiful innings to watch. (On if bowling first is a no-brainer) Even when we were bowling, the last eight overs were tough. The dew was playing a huge factor. But if I was in the position of Guyana, having qualified in the top two, I would have batted first too because I would have wanted my batters and bowlers to know what they would be up against possibly (in the playoffs).

Imran Tahir, Guyana Amazon Warriors captain: (What went wrong) We wanted to be in a situation like that, to bat first and bowl when dew is around. Nothing to be worried about. I always feel we need to improve and that is how we should play every sport. I think we did not bowl well according to our plans. Very happy. We achieved what we wanted to achieve. Wanted to do something different. (On the batting) The pitch, even yesterday, played a bit up-and-down. It was the same today. Earlier, it was drier so the spinners were getting help. That is the challenge we have to face as a batter and a bowler. That is something we wanted to do our homework on and glad that it is out of the way. We now need to come up with a better plan. He (Ayub) has a bit of a groin issue but he should be fine. He needed a little bit of rest.

6pm How's it going, everyone? It's Match 28 in the CPL and we are back at the Providence Stadium in Guyana where the Guyana Amazon Warriors will take on the Trinbago Knight Riders under lights.

Both of these teams have qualified (and are assured a top-two berth), meaning that there is not a lot riding on it (from a tangible perspective, at least). But with these sides set to clash when the stakes are a lot higher in a few days' time, neither would want to hand the other momentum and this match, thus, is one neither would really want to lose.

On Thursday, with a spot in the playoffs sewn up, the Warriors decided to bat first, trying to make their batters and bowlers perform the tougher gig (batting on a sticky surface and then bowling with dew around). Post that fixture, captain Imran Tahir said that they had accomplished what they had set out to achieve. Hence, it would be interesting to see what they do if they were to win the toss tonight.

As for the Knight Riders, their extraordinary batting firepower has made them an efficient chasing side, having won three out of the four games in which they have batted second. The last time they faced the Warriors, though, they fumbled batting first. Setting a total could be a possibility in Qualifier 1, and that could tempt them to bat first and gain some confidence on that front.

That means there is plenty to look forward to from a tactical standpoint. Plus, there are bragging rights at stake and the small matter of both teams wanting to gain a psychological edge over the other before the playoffs.

WTH ..TKR gats a player older than Googley...

8:44pm The Knight Riders lost a bit of momentum towards the end, scoring just 43 off the final five overs but have still managed to get up to 176, largely down to Carty's heroics. Playing just his third T20, he blasted 83 off 49, giving the Knight Riders the requisite momentum through the middle overs. Deyal also did his bat at the top, blazing away to a 30-ball 47. Unfortunately for them, there was not much support elsewhere, meaning that they failed to breach the 180-run mark.


The Warriors largely bowled well but were let down massively by Smith, who conceded 50 runs in his three overs. Tahir was economical as usual, with Pretorius also tidy. Shepherd also went at more than 11 runs per over but did bag the important wicket of Pollard, just before the onset of the final few overs. They have the batting firepower to chase this total down, and with the pitch not illustrating any real demons so far, the hosts will be quietly confident at the half-way mark.

Keacy Carty: Back home, I was putting in work. I was hoping to get called in but not in the last leg. Luckily, I came in today and put up a performance for the team. Just told myself that I am new to the format. If I can go run-a-ball for 25 balls, then I can go big. (On the 26-run over against Smith) I knew they wanted to make me hit to the big side. I was trying to hit straight, and wanted to hit boundaries. (On the score) We were targeting 170 to begin with so the bowlers have something to work with.

Hope then registered his fourth fifty-plus score this season to guide the Warriors' run-chase and ensured that there weren't any hiccups.


As for the Knight Riders, well, the defence descended into a bit of a farce towards the end, with Walton and Alleyne rolling their arm over, even as Carmichael (a designated bowler) failed to get to the bowling crease. Prior to that, they dropped a ton of catches, with Smith benefitting most. Their out-cricket on the field, in general, left plenty to be desired and the Knight Riders would hope that they can bounce back from this when they take on the Warriors in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday.
