Nine-year-old Ontarian takes the stage at the U.S. Tennis Open

And just last month, the now nine-year-old Milton, Ont., girl was singing the national anthem at the U.S. Open Tennis Championship in front of a crowd full of celebrities.Mishra’s first significant event, she recalls, was her performance for the Hamilton Ticats at the Tim Horton’s Field in Ontario for an audience of over 25,000 when she was seven years old. After feeling energized by the crowd’s enthusiasm, it “made me instantly realize that this was my calling,” she said.

Two years later, she found herself performing for the star-studded U.S. Open — one of the world’s biggest sporting events — broadcast to 200 countries. Following her latest performance, the young singer received praise from celebrities including Indian actress Priyanka Chopra.
