Just got a text from my brother! Was about to post!
Eisenhower Park is where I played most of my League Cricket in NY.

Interesting, never heard of cricket played there maybe a different league but glad its close to me, but I wonder what all those naysayers and protesters at Van Cortland Park will say now. Smart move

I play a lot golf at the Eisenhower courses. It’s a huge park with ample parking. It’s accessible and a good spot for the games.

Huge Park and cricket has been played there for years.
The Nassau County folks are Smart.
And with that move they should be able to get that place built in time and having
it look good.
Can't afford for the beautiful and historic Belmont Park to be the only centerpiece for sports in the County.
Great news.
New York City is in some ways backward. The largest City in the world that has never hosted the Olympics.
Says a lot about their thinking.
LA will be hosting a 3rd or 4th(?) one in a 5 years.
Shed no tears for the Van Cortland people. They are a wuss.

I won't shed any for Jamaica govt either. They are worse than pitiful

They built the Swimming Complex in Eisenhower Park in late ‘80s for the Goodwill Games exactly at the spot where my team home ground was located!

In reply to hubert Hubie,. kind of surprised at your criticism of the Van Courtland people. Remember that Jamaican saying ..He who feels it, knows it ?.Now, remember the New Yankee Stadium ? There was a park next to the old Yankee Stadium, that had a running track and football amenities etc that the locals used day and night. To facilitate the new Stadium, NYC took the peoples parkland and promised them alternate sites that would be brought up standard.Something like 5 different sites. Think about 7 years after the Yankees got their stadium , the people had not gotten their facilities, one of which I think is located on the other side of the I 87 (the Deegan)
Would you trust the NYC people?.
I understand that all us cricket fans want to see the spectacle, but at what cost? History is replete with purpose built facilities that deteriorate into ruin, after the cheering died down.

I don't think I have been over critical at all.. Van Coprtland Park was donated and deeded by Van Cortlandt for cricket back in the 19th century.
That is where any intyernational ground should have been ..but NYC was never interested.
A coordinated effort with ALBANY and the governership over successive administration should have seen to this or at least make an attempt.
There were many more cricket fields at Van Cortlandt decades ago. But other interests surperceded those of cricket and it has become
very difficult to reverse that ..

But if interest is not there and if the cricket fraternity that comprises so many leagues in the NYC and Metropolitan area had pursued this
the reality of an international cricket center would have been in NYC a long time.
Who knows ,perhaps even an Olympic Stadium although he Borough of Queens would have been the most likely location for such .
An opportunity was also missed when reclamation of land by the Hudson on the West Side of Manhattan could have figured in an
Olympic Ideal spot.

With so many subway lines and the efficiency and convenience that goes with them,NYC would make a wonderful Olympic site.
But this will never happen..real estate is too cherished and expensive on that little Island.
I appreciate your take on purpose built facilities that fall in ruins.
The example is Jamaica's two International Cricket venues that need so much funds to keep in top shape. One is more than a virtual cow
pasture in Trelawny and the leadership,mainly present government don't give much of a hoot.
Good leadership can and do prevent purpose built places from being decrepit by utilising them and maintaining them.
Your point is well taken but the fault lies not with the facility but those who are responsible to see to their use and
future.
Los Angeles will be hosting another Olympics in the same stadium that hosted their first nearly a century ago and in 1984.
How come?
The answer is right before our eyes.

But I welcome Nassau County's venture with the cricket. NYC adopted Belmont Race Track as its own ,hopefully it will also embrace whatever cricket venue
established in the County.

Would I trust the NYC People ? I plead the 5th.

The Trelawny stadium should be converted to a learning institution rather than allowing the facility to go to waste!
