is not down to politicians alone. first of all, for you to kill a ten year old child, you have to be a monster. we have a generation of young men, borderline or almost completely illiterate(there's an article on illiteracy in some of TT's schools and I'm positive there is a similar trend in the other islands). People don't understand is culture that informs the societies norms and values.
I wasn't even a thought in the 1980s but i know from talking to my parents that crime was very low, despite the economy being in its worst condition in the history of independent TT. The reason i think is because we had less broken homes, less single mothers and more fathers to provide a strong male influence to young men. Its not rocket science to see the connection between dysfunctionality from young people and their home circumstances, the competence or incompetence of their parent(or sometimes parents) etc. South Trinidad still barely has crime. Sando, Point Fortin, Gasparillo, Rio Claro, Fyzabad, Moruga etc. Honestly its like being in two totally different worlds, i kid you not. I'm not saying illegal activities don't occur there but the drugs(TTPS just made a 100 million dollar drug bust in south yesterday), the gangs, the vagrancy is limited or almost nonexistent. And whenever the police catch robbers, the vast majority of the time, they come from the east west corridor. That's a fact.
We have to start to rehabilitate the society from the celebration of gangsterism and foreign ghetto culture. Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica have had many cultural achievements and innovations that should be emphasized first.

In reply to Brerzerk They never sustain their crime fighting strategies. When one administration has successes...the other, when it ascends to the helm, changes shoite - just like here in the USA!!!

Relatives of baby struck by stray bullets now want to leave T&T
Although the one-year-old Venezuelan boy who was struck by two stray bullets last Monday in El Socorro remains hospitalised in stable condition, his traumatised family on Thursday begged for help to leave this country.
Originally, the father of Jose Nunez Enrique vowed to stay in T&T despite the incident, saying it was still much better than life in Venezuela.
But yesterday, another relative, speaking on behalf of the family, said they now want to leave and migrate to the US, saying the local crime situation had left them scared and uncertain of their future.
The female relative of little Jose begged, We are already experiencing trauma from everything that happened. We want to leave here.

Comments
Children are dead. Multiple children are dead. And multiple other children are injured. Where is the Commissioner of Police (Erla Christopher)? Where is the Minister of National Security (Fitzgerald Hinds)? This is not some gang leader or some random criminal killed. These are our children. This is our future. The blood of our children is on the ground right now; where is the Commissioner? Where is the minister? What are they doing? a resident asked.
However, Roger Moore, councillor for Blanchisseuse/Santa Rosa, who was present, described the incident as a sad day in our community.Today is a sad day for us. We grieve, and we acknowledge that this is something we have to go through at this point. I know the family and this is why I felt like I had to come down. What I can say is that they are not coping too well at this point at this time. With nine shot and four killed, you can just imagine the grief.

TTPS rescued the girl. They apparently cordoned off the Valencia area and the suspects drove out, they were engaged and the police arrested them and rescued her. Job well, well done

President of the Joint Trade Union Movement, Ancel Roget, says the Government has been defeated in its war against crime and has left citizens at the mercy of criminals.Rogets comments came on the heels of the recent killing of four youngsters, including a ten-year-old girl, in the Heights of Guanapo.
Five others were also wounded in the attack which sent shockwaves throughout the country.
During a media conference yesterday, Roget accused the Government of repeatedly failing in its attempt to improve the safety of citizens. We also express our deep disdain, horror and anger for the free pass that this Government is given while the Government abdicates its responsibility to the citizens of this country. This Government has failed over and over and over in its primary duty for which they were hired, the union leader said.
Roget said the seemingly unabated crime level was indicative of a government without any plan or policy to protect citizens from criminal elements.

I told you fools/facters/socishitists, donkey years ago that socialists DO NOT CARE - all they want is POWER! They love the titles, positions, the image of VIPs...they have a self righteous disposition of 'know it all' & just react. They are not comprehensive, they do not project & plan in a proactive manner. Guess what - I'm facting done.
