Either the Jamaicans know something we dont
ROI
They already get plenty tourists w/o cricket
In reply to allan
They know they have a local govt election to tief
In reply to ray
These tourists would be coming to Kingston not the North Coast.
In reply to Dukes
The Trelawny stadium is also a venue
In reply to Dukes
Are these tourists guaranteed ???? If so how many and how much will they be spending ??
In reply to hubert
The All inclusive hotels and the Bus owners are the one that benefit from these tours.
The packages are All inclusive, Hotel, Transport to and from games, meals, drinks and snacks
I was in Barbados and Antigua for the 2007 WC, that was was a happening time, the place was jamming
Too many people at Oisting on the Friday and Saturday night, before the final
In reply to hubert
and most likely thay end up with games that nobody want see
Actually, I think that it would have been good for the region if Caricom made the bid, decided at the Caricom level where the matches would be hosted and then the leaders discussed how the profits would be divided among the countries in the region. It would have been a step forward in showing the world that we are willing to think as one unit so dont try to divide us again.
In reply to PalsofMine
In the Americas, you think the USA, Canada and Mexico think as one unit?
There is a reason Federation failed, and every Island is going at it alone, understanding th benefit of Caricom.
In reply to hubert
T 20 World Cup a hop, skip and jump away from Florida and New York and the Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis are not going to see their heroes? Not to mention other West Indians.
BTW Check your e-mail.
In reply to Dukes
Most of those Asian countries might end up playing in US...wonder where semis and finals will be?
In reply to allan
Has CWI been treating Jamaica justly with match allocation recently? Could that be the unspoken reason behind the decision?
In reply to openning
That's been happening (bussing cricket tourists from resorts to Sabina) since WI was grea! But soo many would be there that Yes Kingston too would get nuff occupancy too
In reply to Dukes
When you can furnish me the actual number of cricket tourists then we can talk
Real numbers. And where in Kingston such congregants are going to stay ?
Only die hard crickt fans such as the ones from INDIA will venture in any numbers
to visit Jamaica for cricket and again I ant to see the number.
Maybe more Jamaican will be the actual visitors and that aint happening anymore.
What is good for other smaller territories is not necessarily hold good for Jamaica where hosting two matches for less playing and staying time
for a day's Test cricket is not worth.
It is bad investment.
And would someone please tell me what improved infractructure is needed for a venue such as Sabina Park which is only 16 years old ?
Disregard Trelawny which still does not have lights and would not be needed although it would be a far better option being close to
myriad hotels from Mobay to Ocho Rios if thousands of visiting cricket tourists are to descend on the Island.
One cruise ship of non cricket tourist for a day in Ocho Rios or MoBay counts for much more and there is no expenses or outlay
necessary for them on brief visit which amounts to much more than two T20 matches or at most 80 overs.
For what ? output of Millions ? Come on.
Jamaica unlike oher places does not have much to gain from tourist for cricket. The tourist product in Jamaica is huge
and is never based on attracting cricket tourists. The only touriets are team members and Jamaicans from other
parts of the Island not named Kingston.
If anyone thinks otherwise. Then SHOW ME THE MONEY from cricket tourists.
Investments should show returns. We see this daily in real tourism, stop overs or long stay.
I challenge anyone to show me where cricket tourism of 80 overs is comparable.
Then again. Jamaica has a Franchise in CPL. How many matches are being played in Jamaica each year. When were the last ones ?
If you cannot feed or entice or respect local people where will be be great interest.
Jamaica should and probably have learned from the near $50 Million US investment in 2007 and the most tourists were a few hundred from Ireland.
BTW, both Stadium were rebuilt or built new without Lights..
I hold no brief for the present JLP regime. In fact I hold them in contempt for their lack of sound governance among other ills. But on this score
they have made the right call. It is just that they chosed to be 'clever' and not be frank about this from the outset.
There is no profit in this monetary wise for this venture. The cost is too much .
The only beneficiaries would be the vendors, peanut ones and others. Such foreign exchange in the grand scheme of things would be
peanuts.
What 'can be, should be or maybe' by way of expectation is far different from the reality of WHAT IS .
We hear so much about benefits but I have not seen any forsnsic audit of such or profits from such.
Most Islands use this to advertize as it is their way to invest and be known. But can they or have they shown profit.
Jamaica's brand does not need cricket to advertise itself or more specific . JAMAICA.
Boys and Girls Championships are far healthier ,productive and profitably than any cricket tourism.
That is my final answer.

1. caricom is broke, they do not have money to pay players or cover CPL losses. Caricom is useless and has always been useless.
2. No profit sharing. Every owner wants to keep their own profit. Guyana amazon warriors make the most profit base on attendance.
3. why were you not talking about caricom when trinidad was hosting 6 cpl finals and barbados was hosting 4 cpl finals.
It burn you that guyana is having the spotlight.
You better get use to it guyana has the money now and will host many big cricket matches going forward.
hayley matthews and stephanie taylor still do not get this they are putting our guyanese girls to sit on the bench at barbados airport.
In reply to ducks
No, they have not and I think that it has been so bizarre and we get no explanation from CWI why no cricket is being played at Sabina which was one of the fortresses of West Indian cricket for decades.
In reply to PalsofMine
You need to ask the jamaica govt that question.
In reply to openning
They do think as one unit when it fits the bill
See NAFTA, now USMCA
Over 3 million visitors strong, cannot be wrong, according to the Jamaican government
In reply to hubert
Apparently, you have no regards for the intangibles!
Some people reach the same conclusion as you when thinking about advertising!
They dont see advertisement as an investment but expense.
The fact of the matter is the games would have been another medium for Jamaica to showcase and reinforce itself as a major tourist destination.
Tourist will come if the event is marketed properly!
Your view is tantamount to saying Bolts prowess on the track does nothing for Jamaica in dollar terms!
The way the government purportedly conducted its cost/benefit analysis is wrong!
In reply to hubert
We are talking about a T 20 World Cup not TEST CRICKET
The cost of a return ticket from Florida or New York to Jamaica would be cheaper than to any other WI playing territory as well as a shorter flight.
Properly marketed it is not just INDIANS but Pakistanis,Bangladeshis, and all the other participating nations who have their residents in New York and Florida.
We had a World Cup in 2007 even though that was 50 overs but I recall a T 20 WC in the Caribbean about 10 or so years ago but I do not recall if Jamaica had any games
Obviously depending on where India, Pakistan and Bangladesh play would be important
In reply to XDFIX
You not worth a response but you got it.
My post was meant for folks who can comprehend. Sorry
In reply to Dukes
Yes we are talking about t20 cricket. Jamaica's bid was for 2 matches including a semi.
That is at best 80 overs. or two days which does not amount to full day's Test cricket where tourists
will be on board for about 1 week as a long staying patron which would generate dollars being spent more
to benefit the economy. That is a comparison
OK so far.
Factor the cost of all the required sums to get Stadia prepared, transportation, security etc
and see if that makes sense unless tourists will number in the ten thousands.
That prognosticatiion is without any merit.
The economics do not make sense.
What we would have and have had is a subsidy from the government (Taxpayers) on the venture.
Now tell me how many US tourists be they black white Indian or purple would be coming to Jamaica
to boost the tourism cricket product with major occupancy of hotels especially in Kingston and
spending US dollars. Has it ever happened. ???
It is a wish founded on the clouds.
Yet you do not recall if Jamaica had any t20 Games 10 years or so ago. Are you for real.
So what is your basis of fact for your opinion.
What I would like is for one of you to tell me how many bodies foreign(not Jamaicans) would be
at Sabina Park and what monetary outlay will they be leaving in the Yard.
Since the hope and conjecture is at the heart of some argument.give me a guess to complete the picture.
In reply to hubert
I did not know that. I was under the impression that the GOJ did not put in a bid.
I was not living in Jamaica then and I realize that no games were played in Jamaica in the T 20 WC in the Caribbean.
I will ask you how did the 2007 ODI World Cup work out in 2007 in terms of financials for Jamaica for the matches they hosted?
In reply to Dukes
The JCA reportedly gave the Govt a bid of two matches one of which was a semifinal.
The Govt did not ,obviously, pursue it.
Request that info from the JCA. the govt of the day , WICB who acted as host for the ICC event.
Question should also be asked after the 2024 event also.
I am no longer a teacher or journalist

My contention if you have been following my posts, is that I am not aware of any forensic audit on anything to justify or
examine the fine points.
Somebody knows the truth or something akin to it. Not aware of much truthfulness/honesty or integrity from all and sundry either.
Pursue that factor
In reply to Jeremy
Based on attendance...what are the ticket costs pegged to the US$???
Maas Hubie Ozzies came to The Yard in good numbers when our cricket was worth watching, Poms too.
Many stayed at the Pegasus and then Sheraton next door. Those with tours stayed in Ochi and a few
adventurous ones with big bucks went to 'Portie' believe it or not!
In reply to Brerzerk
Tll me something I aint know. The occasion was bilateral tours, And as you say when the cricket was worth watching.
Poms always flock to Bim in numbers, real numbers mostly for Bilateral ones too. Watch them come out in huge
numbers for the games in December in Bim.
They have also adopted Antigua .That is why those two Islands always on the Pom's schedule even if it marbles.
In fact it is the Poms who make the schedule and pick venues when they come to the region .
They don't care much for Sabina Park.

In reply to hubert
Yuh spewing a lot of hot air, my bad! Perhaps I should have hawked and spit!
In reply to XDFIX
Do better than that...sh-te. !!! you overdue . Comprehend ?
In reply to hubert
You've hit the nail on the head.
The Cricket World Cup has more to offer the Eastern Caribbean, and their tourism product.
It might not be value for money for Jamaica's tourism industry.
A lot of countries are pulling out of sporting events for similar reasons. Norway turned down the Winter Olympics. First Durban, and now Victoria, have pulled out of hosting the Commonwealth Games. All of them said that it was too expensive, and not value for money.
