I know there was another thread on this but I cannot locate it so here goes:
And now there are eight:
GROUP 1
STATHS
Mona
KC
St. Catherine
GROUP 2
JC
Hydel
STGC
Tivoli
Clearly Group 1 is the proverbial "Group of Death". On form STATHS and Mona should come out of that group and JC and either Hydel or STGC should emerge from Group 2.
DaCosta Cup
I watched a bit of STETHS vs Clarendon and in rainy conditions, both teams looked impressive. I was subsequently told that Cornwall outplayed STETHS in the former's 0-1 loss playing with 10 men. Can Cornwall beat Clarendon? They will need to (plus hope for some lucky breaks) to advance.

In reply to JoeGrine
The ball is round but it would be tough for any school in Jamaica to beat Clarendon this year.
In reply to Slipfeeler
I will wait until I see three schools in the Manning Cup play a tough match before I crown Clarendon. Those three teams will play in a tough match tomorrow.
In reply to JoeGrine
Is this a tough matchup for KC Joe?
Purples lost a lot of veterans but may just upset.
In reply to RoyalDad
Royal One, since you asked me, as of today, for me KC is not a team that I would consider above StATHS, Mona or even St. Catherine. KC, however, has three things going for them (1) they are playing well at present (2) they have a good coach (3) they have a great crowd. StATHS also has all those three things in their favor, Mona has 1 & 2 and St Catherine has 1 & 2.
In reply to JoeGrine
Interesting. Lost their 1st match against Hydel I remember, and the death bells were sounding. Purples rebounded nicely and as you mentioned have been playing well. The crowd factor may just push them over the top, irregardless of the other two. Will be watching.
Cornwall was just minutes away from beating Clarendon today, which would have been very disastrous for Clarendon to be beaten by a team which traditionally does not believe in transferring aka buying players from other schools. Match ended 1-1. This Cornwall team this year seems underrated, they lost but virtually outplayed STETHS during their last match despite playing with 10 players from first half, showing resilience by equalizing every time the highly touted STETHS scores.
In reply to Slipfeeler
Cornwall is coached by a man that I rate in my top 3 best high school coaches. What he has done with this team is exceptional. 2024....such a pity!
Cornwall has a rich football history for a school that does not participate in transfer of players from other schools. With the most DaCosta Cup and Oliver Shield Trophies among Rural schools in Jamaica.
BB Coke versus Clarendon will be a whopper of a game this week.
A shout out to Georges!

There is a possibility the Manning Cup semifinalists will be known on Tuesday. The DaCosta Cup, not so, however, there are some interesting matches ahead especially the one you highlighted.
In reply to JoeGrine
Joe,KC surprising everyone it seems. High probability this year's Manning champs.
Tuesday’s results
Group One
Mona 1, St Catherine 1
Kingston College 1, STATHS 0
Group Two
Jamaica College 2, Tivoli High 1
St George’s College 1, Hydel High 1
Friday’s fixtures
Group One
STATHS vs Mona
Kingston College vs St Catherine
Group Two
Hydel High vs Tivoli High
Jamaica College vs St George’s College
In reply to RoyalDad
Yes Sir, a massive win for KC yesterday. Such is the group, however, that the semifinalist from that group remains unknown though KC is in the driver's seat. A draw against St. Catherine will see them through.
TABLE
KC 4
STATHS 3
MONA 2
ST.CATH 1
My odds to advance:
KC 8/10
STATHS 5/10
MONA 4/10
StCATH 2/10
Fixtures:
StATHS vs Mona = a draw is all StATHS needs to advance assuming St. Catherine doesn't beat KC by 3 goals. Mona win and they are in.
KC vs St. Catherine = KC needs a draw to advance or a loss by no more than 2 goals coupled with a StATHS loss.
TABLE
HYDEL 4
STGC 4
JC 2
TG 0
From the next group:
HYDEL 9/10
STGC 6/10
JC 4/10
Fixtures:
HYDEL vs TG - only needs a draw or a loss and a STGC win.
STGC vs JC =STGC only need a draw to advance. JC has to win to get in.
So, KC has the best odds of advancing from their group and there could be a new champion crowned this year.
In reply to JoeGrine
Saw the highlights and Staths had some dangerous opportunities! That screecher that hit the crossbar was amazing.KC held on though.
In reply to RoyalDad
1. STATHS had 65% of the possession.
2. STATHS had better scoring opportunities.
3. Football, strange game.
In reply to JoeGrine
Yes.The 1-0 score hid a lot of the overall ball game.
Leh we go Mona High! You can beat St Andrew Tech!
Mona Hih leading 2-0 21 minutes in
In reply to Chrissy
STATHS knocked out
Mona through to the semi-finals
In reply to FanAttick
KC 1. St Caths 1
Not sure of final score
In reply to Chrissy
St Catherine 2, KC 1
KC scored late to move on to the semis
In reply to FanAttick
Was this a "tactical" result per KC losing so as to face a more easier opponent? Just asking.
In reply to RoyalDad
They were fighting to remain in the hunt!
In reply to RoyalDad
Nothing tactical there. KC was down to 10 players quite early and secured a goal to advance via goal difference. I am just puzzled that (1) two games that were supposed to start simultaneously had a 15 minute start/end differential. (2) the other group did not play yesterday as well to avoid the appearance of or implementation of gaming the outcomes.
In reply to JoeGrine
Who is KCs next opponent?
In reply to RoyalDad
Dont think so…By losing they placed 2nd in the group and are likely to face a tougher opponent in the semis…
In reply to RoyalDad
KC's opponent will be the winner of the second group, one of Hydel (95% likely) - STGC or JC (5% likely).
In reply to JoeGrine
JC knocked out.. STGC advances
In reply to FanAttick
Wow!!What a turn of events. JC out.KC will now legitimize their standing with a semifinal win over Hydel/ St.Georges.
In reply to RoyalDad
Mona must be licking their lips….STGC looks very weak(JC was by far the better team)…Hydel/KC is a toss up…Hydel should win…looking like a Mona vs Hydel final
In reply to FanAttick
Don’t rule out a North Street derby.
Dem big schools know how to win.
Still, Mona is the team to beat this season.
In reply to Chrissy
I have now seen of the semifinalists Mona and STGC play. I haven't seen Hydel (much is said of their Premier League players - five I think) or much of KC. None of the teams I have seen are special, if fact I would say the standard is much lower this year than last and even some of the top players last year who are playing this year have regressed.
The two best matches I have seen this season are Clarendon - STETHS (great game) and STATHS - XLCR (STATHS then looked like an incredibly good team).
Your point about a North Street derby cannot be taken lightly. Best wishes to the 4 semifinalists.
In reply to JoeGrine
North Street derby would be nice but I dont think KC want any of that.Doughie Bell would know.
Putting my vote on Mona to take home the trophy!
Sorry, Georges, not this year!
In reply to XDFIX
Light blues could be dangerous.
KC on a roll.
Some analyst on Sportsmax picked all the rural teams to make semis.
Only one left.( Hydel ) Or are they a corporate team??
Open my big mouth now and say KC will win it all.Playing too good and surprising even themselves.
In reply to JoeGrine
Champions Cup
Glenmuir 1, Mona 0
Clarendon College 3, STGC 1
KC 3, Dinthill 2
Despite the defeat STGC was the better team….I have to revisit my predictions. - the Mona vs STGC Semi-Final will be a toss up
In reply to FanAttick
Mona out again.Craig licking his wounds even more.
KC still surprising themselves.Brave bunch of lads I say.
Will Mona bounce back in their next outing?
Double header today!

I said the non-traditional hi would take it, so said so done!
In reply to JoeGrine
A Mona vs Hydel Final is good for the game…you might be surprised to see a sellout crowd
ISSA’s new rules will shift the paradigm….traditional schools can’t just recruit their way to titles anymore…they will have to focus on developing their own talent
In reply to Chrissy
Chrissy. - I didn’t realize that my brethren and fellow Taylorite Comrade Walton Small is the Hydel principal

Joe,you may be right. What is the fan base here with both these schools??
Clarendon College vs Glenmuir in the DaCosta Cup Final
Clarendon beat Garvey Maceo on penalties
Glenmuir beat Dinthill on penalties

The biggest double header in school boy football history - I hope ISSA milking every ounce from it in terms of revenue!

"Flagrans Veritatis Studio"
Yes sir it might have taken over 50 years but good to see we are in the thick of things. My generation could only take pride in the fact that we never got a cricket score from VTech ala Dinthill. Here's a piece of history. In 1965 we lost 3-0 to the much vaunted VTEch in one leg of the D'Cup ,then there were 4 zones with return games and it made headlines on the Gleaner's Sports page the next day, Sunday. They said the score was such because someone had left a pipe running the previous night and so the field was wet and muddy (never saw the game). We got beaten 8-0 in the return leg. In my time we never got a double digit beating from Vere Tech.
Vere Tech weh yuh deh??

Is there still All Dacosta v All Manning and Oliver Schield?
In reply to camos
There is definitely Oliver Shield (one game). The All-Manning vs All-DaCosta game returned last year after a few years break. Not sure if it will be played this year.
CC murdering Glenmuir
4-0
Half Time

In reply to Chrissy and JoeGrine
Thanks for the updates.
At least JC won the Champions Cup.
Let's all put some respect on Butler's name
This match should be played at the stadium - big man thing!
ISSA misses out here in terms of gate receipts!
Teacher Hyde vs maverick Butler!
Di Teacha vs Di Conman!
Should be interesting!
In reply to jacksprat
Not nice…
Craigg Butler will continue to mad uunuu….
Haters gonna, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate….Taylor Swift
In reply to XDFIX
Oliver Shield doesn't carry much prestige now? A now one-off game relegated to a school ground. Years ago the Oliver Shield final was next to a Test Match in spectator appeal. Hope ISSA/Sponsor(s) helping out with security costs etc. This game belongs in the stadium with a national tv audience; no concern for continuing/maintaining a tradition.

THIS
In reply to CWWeekes
To be honest, I don't understand the thinking in the ISSA camp!
It's a missed opportunity to market school boy football locally and internationally!
In reply to XDFIX
There are only four schools with big crowd draw for schoolboy football. JC, KC, Clarendon and StATHS. ISSA only make money from Champs and late round football games. Stadium rental can be prohibitive and Mona does not have the legacy to draw.
It has now been confirmed that the game will be at the stadium.
On a related note, congrats to Clarendon, Mona and Glenmuir (Champions Cup).
In reply to XDFIX
Prendy agrees that STATHS were robbed

Butler was a very successful youth coach in NJ before he went back to Jamaica, he was an early coach for Tevon Gray and his twin brother.
There are so many trophies now in schoolboy football, each competing school has a chance to win one!
In reply to FanAttick
Butler said the ref confessed that Mona was badly done last year on the cusp of taking home the cup!
Butler is a con man eh. I wonder if it's because he's not black enough.
Rooting for CC in the Olivier Shield starting at 4.00 yard time.
Mona High students must learn to behave demselves. Their disgraceful behavior after winning last week and this week’s invasion of JC cannot be tolerated.
Whip dem CC. None of this thug behavior must be tolerated.
Lovely goal Dixon 35 min 1st half
1-0 CC.

A fabulous young player. A big future awaits
In reply to Chrissy
The best high school football player for the 2023 season.
In reply to Chrissy
A big future is possible for him. Very talented but at 18 he should have been in a professional setup by now.
In reply to nitro
I understand that Arnett Gardens not letting go of the young star, Dixon - he's the golden goose!
Butler has expressed interest in him!
Coach John Wall - our school boyz not ready
In reply to XDFIX
I hope they don't chase him out of town for his "on point" remark. In the past 5 Manning Cup season there has been about four players that I thought were potential next level if properly guided:
Richards (KC)
Satchwell (StATHS)
Douglas (Clarendon)
Dixon (Clarendon)
None of them are the finished article with Stachwell having the best technical skills.
In reply to JoeGrine
kINGSTON, Jamaica – The Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) has admitted to a significant referee error during the Walker Cup final penalty shootout between Jamaica College and St Andrew Technical High (STATHS) at the National Stadium last Friday.
In a statement, ISSA said the decision by match official Tyrone Robinson to order a retake of a spot kick during the penalty shootout was a mistake.
