JAMAICA - Coach Halgrimsson

JoeGrine 2023-11-19 10:55:54

I was one of those who joined the crowd that was disgusted with just about everything Withmore did as a coach in his recent stint. Coach Grim has pretty much gone unscathed. Would Withmore have survived this long without being criticized by all and sundry? Hardly likely I suppose.

Under Coach Grimm:
GOALKEEPERS - Blake and Waite seems regulars, what of Coniah Boyce-Clarke? I thought having CB-C in the team was a good move for the future, is it club commitments or no first team play or Coach Grim has "Ravelled" him?

DEFENDERS - good to see Hector back, however, what is his infatuation with Brown? Is Coach Grim's only responsibility to the 20-odd man squad as I have seen no move to develop locals. Topey no development? King got a recent look but beyond that....?

MIDFIELD - Coach Grim seems allergic to deploying anything but a 4 man "midfield" without a truly creative player. Ravel has been jettisoned having committed what must have been an unpardonable act as lack of team play should not have resulted in him not even being in the squad, he is that good and we are that poor. Tyrek Magee and Omari Hutchinson seldom gets the time of day, the latter, not at all. Another allergy Coach Grim has developed since arriving in Jamaica is to benching Leon Bailey. In the past four years, Bailey has at maximum (and I am being generous now) played THREE GAMES where his performance was outstanding and two of those were under Coach Grim, you have communicated that he is a sacred-cow so what bar are you setting for the team when a non-productive player cannot see the bench?

FORWARDS - Antonio and Nicholson are the only two players capable of scoring or keeping defenses honest. Where is his other marksmen coming from? Richards? Williams?

TEAM - Coach Grim is clearly locked in to 4-4-2 and we don't seem to have the material to play that format. Playing Nicholson & Antonio together is not good both, especially Antonio, need space to operate, so either Nicholson subs in or a 4 - 4- 1-1 is employed or Coach Grim learns how to play a 4-3-3 or a 5-3-1-1 or what I think would be best a 3-5-1-1 the latter allows both forwards on the pitch as a 9 and a 10 and gives the coach a crowded midfield he so loves, with hopefully a creative midfielder.
Where is Kaheem Parris?
Are tabs being kept on Satchwell?
Mason Greenwood?

So Donswell's responsibility it is.

Are they telling me that one can't find five good local players from the local premier league for a fixture on the team? So what's the local league for, feel good vibes, and show? I would boycott sponsorship of the league if local players cannot get a buy in!

As much as people loathe Butler, he is one of the few pundits who makes sense!

Presently, if you want to be above average in CONCACAF you must have the overseas based players, the JPL players are just not good enough. I don't indulge in xenophobia, the JPL players are below CONCACAF standard!

Coach needs to fix the midfield and defense, especially the midfield. He makes Whitmore looks like a genius.

Parris?

We need players to solve our weak areas, midfield and defense.

Greenwood paper work had a setback due to errors with his grandfather's documents.

Both he and Reis Nelson will be ready by WCQ next year.

The challenge is midfield. Gibbs-White is apparently working on his as well but that I will have to see to believe. CDM...Isaac Hayden? I would try Richard King in that role.

Ok. Thanks…If we get Greenwood we’re guaranteed a WCQ berthbig grin

Did you read my full post? I lamented the no-call of Ravel Morrison, I inquired about Magee and Hutchinson, I mentioned Pinnock acting as creative midfielder so save your instructions on team needs for someone else. I have repeatedly criticized Coach Grim for his midfield make up.

So we can produce international athletes, cricketers, but not footballers - no plans to address that problem?

Butler has bragging rights!

JoeGrine 2023-11-20 00:57:11

In reply to XDFIX

Truthfully, we are just not there yet, however, better coaches are now showing up in the Manning Cup and DaCosta Cup competitions and the JPL though young, will eventually produce. The key is the upgrading of the coaches.

In reply to XDFIX

We have produced international footballers like Ricardo Fuller and Bibi Gardner, just not enough to make us a top 3 team in CONCACAF. Clubs develop players, like how MVP and Racers created top athletes. Back in the day clubs like Kingston and Kensington created top cricketers. We no longer have top cricketers and I have not heard much about club cricket.

The JAAAs and JFF bodies are mere administrators, they can't develop players.

XDFIX 2023-11-20 20:33:34

In reply to nitro

I understand, but my point is if the clubs could produce Ricardo and Bibi over 20 years ago and can't find five good local players today, there's no progress and the JPL is a waste of time!

JPL has sent Renaldo Cephas, Richard King, Shamar Nicholson, Kaheem Paris, Trivante Stewart to Europe straight from the JPL. Also Ronaldo Webster and others whose names I can't remember. Several went just since THIS year especially to Serbia and Macedonia. We also have Javon East who can't stop scoring in Costa Rica. The quality on display in JPL has improved and that has been noticed with several going overseas. Now is the coaching staff monitoring THOSE players or is he addicted to primarily England players. So I think it is a coaching preference issue. I personally think Lambert is a better defensive mid than Lattibeaudiere. But Lambert is USL.

JoeGrine 2023-11-21 00:09:14

In reply to michaelmax

Agreed on Lambert over Latibeaudierre. Agreed the JPL is improving, note also Stachwell in Europe (Slovenia?).

Think so but it is Eastern Europe. Coach used Bailey TWICE in the middle at Gold Cup and second match against Haiti. BOTH times midfield got a spark so why NOT use him THERE? Also our strikers are used to modern systems of single strikers so sometimes I think playing them together, they get in each other's way. Nicholson is a target man. Romario Williams drops off and makes diagonal runs. Burke when selected is also a target man while Antonio is a hold up man and connects with the wings/midfield. They don't fit together.

Latti is not a CDM. I don't know what this Coach thinking.
