Jordan Johnson. Wow!

Logic 2023-11-19 16:36:46

I know its an Ireland Academy but some shots say class no matter how average the bowling is

FanAttick 2023-11-19 16:38:01

He just smashed the potatoes out of the Irishbig grin

JoeGrine 2023-11-19 18:29:40

He is a cut above every opposition I have seen him play this year (Senior 50 overs - on par).

That is the way to get the selector's attention, by scoring runs consistently.
My Antiguan brother and I were having dinner with Sir Everton, he asked why was Viv selected ahead of Jim Allen, Sir Everton responded, when Jim was scoring the occasional hundred, Viv was consistently scoring fifties, now we see Viv consistently scoring hundreds and Jim Allen is scoring the occasional fifties.

doosra 2023-11-19 21:14:31

it was poor of Jamaican to not pick him for the regional 50s

Who would he have learned from?
We want to select these youngsters from a couple of good scores, only in the region, do you see such a selection.
A number of 19-25-year-olds are playing Shield, County, Plunkett and in India, not the IPL, check these youngsters fc averages.
It will show you a selection process

Your postings are usually quite sound, this one, I am not so sure.

Who would he have learned from? - this assumes he learnt from someone where he played. This also assumes Jamaica does not have anyone capable of teaching Jordan Johnson.
We want to select these youngsters from a couple of good scores, only in the region, do you see such a selection. - actually, there are not 36 players (the top 6 territories with batting 1-6) who have shown 1/2 the consistency he has showed over the past year.
A number of 19-25-year-olds are playing Shield, County, Plunkett and in India, not the IPL, check these youngsters fc averages. - surely you know you cannot use the matrix of countries with proven development system as a barometer when we have no such system. I offer you to also check the number of FC matches those youngsters you are mentioning have played. What system do we have here to mimic that?

i think that Johnson is currently in the right place, playing for WIA and having played for CCC. He needs some nurturing still at his age and state of development and I am not sure that that JA team would have been able to provide that this year. Hopefully by 2024 JA gets its internal business in order and can present a team and an attitude that we know they are capable of

At the young man's age, he should know the basis of batting; he should be working on areas to improve his skill.
Which player on the Jamaica team that he would have batted with, would be able to guide him?
The coach on this present team is following asleep at the wheel, Nyeem Young should not be opening the bowling for any team.
He is a batsman, and that should be his focus, he can work away from these games on his bowling, Wickham should be told the same, he wants to bowl, wicketkeep and bat.
Develop one skill and add to it.

Only last week on Brose a number of shield scoreboards, got the names of youngsters, and checked their fc stats.
Dude, at my age I am surrounded by Golf instructors and dance teachers.
I am more up-to-date on coaching because I am a Suzuki dad.
BTW, I have been writing about the Australian system for years on this board, the 1976 and 1980 Olympics, when the Aussies got a number of coaches from Canada, having a ministry of sports.
There was an Aussie GM who I worked under, during the early 90's, she embarrassed me every year at our Christmas parties, providing me me every Australian cricket item.
I kept the tie but gave the rest of the items to my brother-in-law. He has no shame.
Her husband is from South Africa, he received the same gifts, her father wanted to rub salt in both our eyes
You cannot compare young professional cricketers, who are contracted to youngsters who have to find jobs, after finishing school.
Get back in your bunker and think.

Which player on the Jamaica team that he would have batted with, would be able to guide him? - - And in the team he played on?

All this talk of which can he turn to, who can guide him.

Is Kirk McKenzie not in the same situation, maybe the two of them can work together.

!

Agree, get some more exposure to different conditions. He plays more mature than the damn senior team batsman!

McKenzie, Johnson and Mansingh should be who Jamaica build their side around.

A team tours should be used to blood young prospects, in my opinion.

My bad!!

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Senior Men’s Selection Panel today named the West Indies “A” Team for the upcoming tour of South Africa. The West Indies will play three four-day “Test” matches against South Africa “A” from 21 November to 8 December.

Joshua Da Silva, the wicket-keeper/batsman has again been named as captain following the West Indies “A” victory in the series in Bangladesh earlier this year. Tevin Imlach, the other wicket-keeper/batsman has been named as the vice captain.

A team captain by Powell is only auditioning for the T20 leagues.
A player like McKenzie would have learned more from being in the CCC and the emerging players' squads, than representing Jamaica at this time.
Blackwood and Bonner have slumped, neither of them can buy a run, the two of them would be more suited to guide the youngsters, but with poor form, they are both in need of help.
