NOTES
J
Nicholas Pooran is unavailable for selection as he prioritizes preparation for T20I format
Jason Holder is unavailable for selection as he prioritizes preparation for Test and T20I formats
This is for the Pommie tour?
Bravo was the best batsman in the Super 50
In reply to Kay
Yep... Surprise to see Hety there. Interesting to see Pooran making himself unavailable too.
Based on that squad this should be the starting XI
1. King
2. Athanaze
3. Carty
4. Hope
5. Lucky boy Hety
6. Rutherford
7. Cariah
8. Shepherd
9. Alzarri
10. Motie
11. Big Oshane/Forde
suh nobady guh seh dem see lil shane ?
In reply to Baje
In the West Indies anything can happen-horrible place-proven failures
In reply to doosra
Fair pick, plus can take the gloves if necessary.
Bravo should have been given a look in!
Redemption for Oshane!

Only short by one (JHo) for a 4 prong sugar factory or diabetic quartet
So why have a Regional ODI tournament?
Rovman dropped?
Who is Matthew Forde?
Sounds bajan but who did he play for in the ODI tournament
In reply to Barry
So, old man Michael can mentor the youths!
Hettie lucky no rass ICM gawn and leave Dukes to pick the side
In reply to sudden
Who is Matthew Forde?
A youngster no qualms there whatsoever!!!
Now Mr. Shane Dowrich we’re going to need you to bust out your fake lawyer degree!!!
Can you draft up a rebuttal for Shim Shimmy as well since Mr. Dukes is M.I.A.!!!!
In reply to WIfan26
Are you instructing me?
All people want is a fair chance .....
In reply to Barry
Who is the ODI coach?
In reply to sudden
An idiot who speaks now of preparation ...
if only it was Otis?
Michael may have made the team
In reply to sudden
Justice is required.....
In reply to sudden
U of W,u19 player from 2020.
In reply to anthonyp
No cussing from.you today,as uncle Dessie took care of the mudland.
If anyone needed proof of the fuckeries that exist in WI cricket, this ODI squad is your smoking gun.
I wonder if the selectors bother to watch the local tournaments.
In reply to imusic
How is it so?
Haynes and his bajan lobby are at it again.
This squad is a true reflection of what has utterly destroyed west indies cricket with zero strategy to rebuild from scratch. This is yet another 234 squad. Same old same old. England can actually white wash the west indies by playing sensible, patient cricket in all the ODIs.
Haynes figure he gon try to keep the Guyanese posse quiet...which he has done so far
In reply to anthonyp
I’m not surprised. Rayad Emrit was the top wicket taker in the 2013 super 50 and didn’t get picked either. They picked talentless Kemroy Peters to go. WI are no longer interested in picking their strongest squad
In reply to ray
Actually, if you find 1 or 2 Guyanese ready to roll for fat bai you find plenty
most people don't really pay him attention that way anymore
if you picked Dowrich, you have no reason to not pick Bravo
they both will be 36+ by the next wc so they are at best short term picks
Real joke. Dowrich? No DBravo? Two ORS! What's the point by the dumb ass selectors?
If Rovman get bounced for nonperformance how they could include Hetty?
In reply to buds
What is ORS?
TTCB should formally protest to CWI and Caricom Darren Bravo's omission. CWI needs accountability.
In reply to lb
what is needed is an explanation
In reply to doosra
For Dow or Hetty or both?
In reply to sudden
as you asked, i would just restate what I believe...just explain why borderline cases were / were not considered...etc
soo yes, why was Hety picked...is it that they believe he still has a future with wi cricket? Is Shane picked as a backup keeper with an eye to support Shai, was Bravo not picked because they feel he is not in the plan for 2027...
and yes selectors should be allowed some leeway with the occasional wildcard...they should say so too
In reply to doosra
Who are the borderline cases?
The team?
In reply to sudden
whoever they are...the selectors would have a better sense as to who the stakeholders view as borderline
Hety for example did not score recently...why is he there...
In reply to doosra
Sammy
In reply to sudden
That should also be told...find a way to say he is part of the Coach's plan for...blah blah blah
In reply to doosra
And that 34 yrs old unrepentant Michael is not but Dow is cover for Hope?
Sammy still kerrin feelings?
In reply to doosra
Isn’t Michael?
In reply to sudden
they need to say...the man played, he scored runs etc...unless he is not interested...
if they have moved on they should just say so too
In reply to sudden
one has power of the other
In reply to lb
And then ICC will suspend us. Allyuh men need to realize WI cricket is now a boys club. You play your cards right and have buddies in high places, you can reach the highest echelons of the sport in this region. De coach is proof of that. Doh need talent or skill. Just like every other thing in the Cariibean. That’s why we’ve become totally uncompetitive is almost everything
In reply to doosra
Agree they should explain
They will, I am told
May surprise you
In reply to buds
What’s ORS?
In reply to sudden
No. it is just the right way to go about it
if they have moved on from DB, then half of the ppl will be happy and the other not...either way...
best be just clear about it
i look forward to hearing it
In reply to doosra
Surprise they didn’t but a day or two may settle matters
Don’t jump the gun man
I also understand that Hety has given certain assurances
In reply to sudden
BTW. i also feel the cricketing public needs clarity on the Pooran situation
i have no problems with guys wanting to specialize...what we are hearing is not clear...which leaves us to speculate that Pooran may no longer want 50 overs...if that is so, let us be clear about it and move on...
In reply to sudden
It's easy to give assurances when you have 'free time'...but I will take his word one more time
oh i wasn't rushing for an explanation...they can take a day...i was just saying they should
In reply to doosra
From what I have seen Pooran has never made much attempt to play long form cricket
The banna seems to know what he wants and is satisfied
I very much respect that
Some more should be as honest as he is
In reply to doosra
I understand Hety is putting in the work and seems sincere
But time will tell
The last straw is the phrase I am hearing
In reply to sudden
If he did, he’d end up being as much rubbish as all those bajans playing for the test and ODI side. Mediocrity is contagious
In reply to sudden
I respect the honesty even if we might want things to be different...i have to problems with that at all if he decides T2O is his path
Hety looked a bit leaner towards the end of the 50...
let's see what happens going forward.
In reply to Jumpstart
you chatting isht
have you looked at the recent world cup?
have you noticed who were the top performers?
In reply to Jumpstart
He may have made that decision after playing with Michael
Lots of respect for Pooran
No mamaguying that is so typical of Tits
In reply to doosra
I am pleased JHo is not playing for whatever reason
He needs a break - a long break
In reply to doosra
Kraigg plays five day and 4 day cricket exclusively and can’t get his average over 35 in tests. You actually have to be talented dude. Playing four day and five day cricket does not guarantee success.
In reply to Jumpstart
I am not disputing the talent...but to suggest Pooran will have gone negative had he played more 4 day does not hold water
I like Cariah in the side
Always had a lot of time for him
He gives an honest days work
No flash or dash
Just goes about his business
Carty and Motie too
In reply to FanAttick
ORS..Overrated Scunts
Fans on this mb have a short memory.
Was Sammy not the captain in NZ?
I am just putting that comment out, to refresh all memories.
Well Sammy does not have the excuse that he had no part with the selection of the team, he had previously said that they are building towards the next World Cup, but many of the guys will not be at their peak age in four years.
In reply to imusic
A real bullshyte squad by these dumbass selectors. I have very little interest in WI cricket.
In reply to doosra
Someone clearly did not want Bravo. He is the same age as Ottley so age can't be the reason
As was the case when ICM was head honcho ...
In reply to anthonyp
A very good squad....... at last Dessie, Sammy are on right track....the aim is 2027 World Cup.... first thing first, all those selected can play 2027 World Cup, if fit & In form.....
Pooran...
Very disappointed.....a player, who was just a year ago was captain of ODI team....makes himself unavailable for only T-20..... With no big money ICC ODI tournament..... Pooran makes a professional decision to pigeon hole himself as T-20 player...
Hety...
Although, did nothing worth in regional......but one of the very few......can play spin as well as fast....nice to see, Hety making himself available and not going Pooran 's way ...... posters going berserk about Hety selection....but conspicuously silent about Pooran unavailability.....be that as it may, Hety made a very strong statement, by playing inconsequential series......playing for maroon, do matter...
Bravo....
Ought to have been selected.....but Sammy being coach.....New Zealand event still stands between Bravo, Sammy and selection... Bravo, would surely be part of Australia series.....when , Coley comes in...
Dowrich...
Good selection, a proper batter in the middle....can play spin and fast....if he performs, could be in for Australia test series...also, with no Pooran, can provide backup for Hope, with gloves....
Mayers and Powell... Should have been dropped long, long back.....
Holder...good Holder concentrate for upcoming Australia tour.... pivotal in test....a genuine all rounder....just two years back was World no. 1 test all rounder.... should always bat at no.7 in test....ODI, is not his forte....nice he bypass it...
My team...XI
King
Athanaze
Carty
Hope
Hety
Chase/ Ottley.....if Ottley plays, he opens
Shepherd
Yannic
Motie
Joseph
Oshane
Desmond Haynes needs to be run out.
In reply to buds
Ok. Thanks
In reply to Wally-1
Honestly I think the problem is Sammy. I cannot see a player as great as Dessie not picking a quality player like Bravo. Sammy’s handlers when he was gifted the captaincy in 2010, purged the team of Senior bravo, Sarwan, Chris Gayle and Jerome Taylor so Sammy could have a team he can captain. So he’s used to operating with second string sides. And WI’s results only improved when those guys came back
This is not a bad squad, given the circumstances.
Pooran, Greaves and Holder are unavailable so that's that.
I understand the selection of Ottley as a cover for opener;
Ottley did score heavily in the Super50, so a reward is not bad
I do not believe that he will be in any of the 11's
The excuse of Ottley as an opener is crap, as
Dowrich opened for Pride in CPL T20,
Alick Athanaze opens for Winwards
Hope is an opener (wid Hetty or Carty to stabalize middle)
King is obviously fit.
Forde deserves his selection
Competition for that spot is Terrance Hinds,
But age may have factored in Forde's selection over Hinds
I would not have argued if Hinds got the nod
and Forde was selected as some kind of reserve to grow with the squad
When Forde was nit selected for the A tour, I suspected he was in
Chase was a shoe-in despite nonsense talk here.
Carriah outperformed Walsh, so no argument
Place here for only one of them.
Hosein was very disappointing in the Super50,
He is regressing or out of form (but people here won't admit that)
Thomas is a great selection
Hetty is a great selection.
Roven Powell, what can I say.
Being honest, he is lucky if he retains the T20 cappo.
Is selceted in de T20 I suspect he will be on probation
Meaning it will be his last chance to prove he belongs (just my suspicion)
He is susceptible to any spin (looks as sea)
Despite his fairly-good leadership at T20, something is wrong with him
Don’t be surprised if Hope displaces him as T20 cappo (You heard is here first)
How a modern batsman can't learn to plan spin is beyond me.
Just do like Russell, who can teach him a thing or two about refine vooping.
On the Bravo issue.
I wrote here that despite his runs in the Super50,
his dot-balls percentage is a worry for International cricket.
His dependence on boundary balls will not work in ODI
Hingland would not give up the 2 to 3 bad balls like Super50 bowlers
With the likes of Hope, Carty and Hetty to play anchor, Bravo loses out
I like Bravo, but I agree with his non-selection.
His past issue with BIG-IDIOT robbed him of a few years (SAD)
In my opinion, the selectors did a fantastic job.
Very few questionable selections.
In reply to Jumpstart
For once, I agree with you re Bravo past issues/non-issues.
However, I cannot blame the present selection for leaving him out.
His days are gone, and we were robbed of the best of Bravo
Thanks to the BIG IDIOT
Bravo lost years is the catalyst for his no longer being in consideration for international cricket.
Bravo is a victim of circumstances
he honestly do not deserve a pick anymore.
His style of ODI batting has not evolved, probable due to lost years.
ODI bowlers do not generally present 2 to 3 bad balls per over
Bravo scores depends on bad balls.
He is not working the good balls in gaps for singles
Wondies have Hope, Carty as middle order anchors.
Bravo will dropp anchor on anchor
May as well select Brafitt and Tage to play if they play Bravo
Score at the end of Wondies 50 overs.
Wondies 131 fa 1.
Braffit not out 58,
Tage run out for 49,
Bravo not out 25
In reply to TanteMerle
I don’t know why delusional fans believe Bravo will be a savior when his ODI record proves otherwise with only 4 100s in 122 matches.
I guess everyone has forgotten about Pollard and crew that failed to qualify for the recent WC! We need to get younger players involved!
In reply to StumpCam
I won't call them dellusional.
I just beieve that they are looking at total runs only from Super 50's
Not quality of bowling, dot-balls, of team strengths, or any other circumstances
Bravo's batting is not ODI standard.
He has not evolved with the game despite his experience.
BTW: so is most of the Wondies players, but age is against him.
In reply to StumpCam
Maybe it's karma for when ICM selected ole washed up Rampaul and his other country men for the t20 world Cup?
I just realize that I forgot Mayers in my post.
He deserves his drop.
Just a refined vooper, who needs to learn to bat.
He is too rash and has shown on occasions that he has the talent.
He is far too inconsistent for me.
He also has to start back bowling more.
Maybe try to make team as a genuine allrounder.
This team lacks intl experience in consistent performance. It is at best a relegation level squad and they will struggle against any genuine intl spin bowler or genuine seem bowler at pace w movement: ie this squad is at the level of Holland or lower and it is not the best that West Indies cricket can offer. Bravo's et al treatment is sim to that of Croft and others who played in an aparteid SA but for a much lesser offense.
In reply to StumpCam
Ottley is 33.
Bravo is 34.
Carty has a ridiculous s/r. This is not the right format for him, he should be in South Africa.
In reply to WICFan
Dowrich is 32
so it's clearly not an age or forward-looking process
In reply to doosra
Making up policy as they go along.
In reply to doosra
Clash of personalities clearly. I don’t think it’s Dessie though
no, it is not an age thing. i see Tante's argument about the dot ball percentage. That would have validity if one then did not have to compare it with other players who do not even get a dot ball percentage because they simply do not last long enough at the crease. it is a travesty that a non performing Hety and Carty (both of whom I like) and even King who did not even play the super 50 and whose overall record is modest at ODIs can get picked before the leading scorer in the premium regional competition. Equally it is a travesty that Walsh, the leading bowler, did not get picked. i am a fan of Cariah's attitude in particular but Walsh outbowled him in this tournament. Even if you decided that you only want to have on leggie in the squad, Walsh is miles ahead of Mansingh and should have gone to SA. We need a transparent selection policy. If it is that over 30s are not to be picked, let us know it. If it is that once you are identified as a talent, you will always be picked, let us know that as well. If Bravo is not to be picked no matter how many runs he makes, let us know that as well. Overall, I think that the team is a good one and I assume that Ottley slotted in for Greaves who would have been first pick. It is just downright wrong that the two best players of the recent tournament have nothing to show for it.
Evil reigns in the Caribbean sh!thole
matthew forde at first glance strikes me as another its and pieces cricketer that proliferate in regional cricket and the fact he only took three wickets and one fifty in the super 50 is very lucky to be there haynes must see something in him .
Powell and mayers deserved to be dropped and congrats to rutherford, dowrich, ottley and bravo non selection was harsh but not unexpected
Haynes sees sh!t in sh!t….
In reply to lb
What are your expectations of a Bravo selection based on his ODI record, another 30 matches to score a 100??
In reply to PalsofMine
West Indies fans are always talking about an individual SR and dot balls, never looking at the team's overall performance.
Virat Kohli may have had the lowest and most dot balls, of the first 4-5 Indian batsman, Cummings batting with Maxwell had an SR below 50, and Labuschagne was also low in the last match, batting with Head.
In reply to WICFan
Ottley will be 34 in 2weeks
In reply to openning
You really want to mention Cummings and Labuschagne innings
Shame on you for bringing them into such conversation.
Please compare Kholi dot-ball percentage with Bravo
not considering the opposition bowling.
Scammy is vindictive
In reply to openning
It took Bravo 51 matches to score his 1st ODI 100, a further 25 matches after his 76th to record his 2nd, followed by his 3rd after 91 matches and his 4th after 117 matches.
Do you really believe he can improve on that???
Hetmyer 50 matches 5 100s.
In reply to TanteMerle
I saw Bravo bat a similar inning to Kholi for his team, you should start focusing on the game instead of the player.
Everything I wrote is relevant to the condition.
Bravo for the last couple of years, seems to have put in the work, in order to make it back to the West Indies team, you cannot disregard consistency because of age, because we just don't have a number of consistently performing professional youngsters.
I used the word professional youngsters because most young international players are given the opportunity to make a living in cricket from an early age.
Our youngsters have to find jobs
In reply to StumpCam
Am I reading right.
Titties COW BAWLING now
Muddies have been accused of cowbawling....NOW TITTIES TEK OVAH !!!!
I have stated many time before.....Bravo is not an ODI player....even before the big idiot issue he had a poor ODI record.
In reply to Narper
But you do know with our limited resources, Bravo has done enough in the last 2 years to be selected in this squad, and the test series to Australia.\
I am always writing about young players after one performance or the inconsistency of performances
Only last regional Kevin Wickham batted seven times having an average of 15, one century in three-team group matches, and fans wanted him selected.
In reply to openning
I will always throw my support for Bravo for TEST cricket.
If Bravo was picked for this ODI series I would not have a problem....now he is left out I dont have a problem
In ODIs....even before the big idiots issue....Bravo record in ODIs was not good.....he is not going to get better now.
After 117 innings he has an ave of 30 and an SR of 70 with 4 tons
In reply to Narper
After 117 innings he has an ave of 30 and an SR of 70 with 4 tons
By the same token, what does Ottley and to a lesser extent Dowrich offer that Bravo doesn't?
In reply to WICFan
Ask de quack doctah Haynes that question.
Seems to me suddenly everybody here NOW has a problem with the quack doctah Haynes.....
He has been effing up since he started....even worse than Harper
In reply to Narper
I've had a problem with Haynes selections for a while, taking Chase as the specialist spin option to Australia should have warranted his dismissal.
Nonsensical decisions.
In reply to openning
Lubuchagne and Cummings particular innings were necessary for the games
Maxwell was going bezerk, and Head had the innings under control
with a less than 5 per over needed when Labuschagne entered.
Your mention of their strike rate in those two innings is disingenuous
and in my opinion seek to obfuscate the issue.
When a team is batting first on a good wicket,
I won't not expect or support a par 90 strike rate from the anchor.
I do not support a dependence on boundary balls,
as international bowlers generally do not give too much of those.
it is insulting to mention Kholi and Michael in the same quarters.
In all fairness, Kholi is an exceptional player,
thus a comparison is not really fair to Bravo.
better to compare him to lesser mortals.
I like and support Bravo,
but his missing years robbed him and Wondies or his best (IMO).
His batting has not evolved with the modern DOI.
i would like to see a player withdraw and he get selected
to see if the new and improved Bravo can cut it.
I mentioned in another tread here recently, that I had no issue with his selection
I also stated that i was concerned with his dot-ball percentage in a modern ODI
Bravo not going to get better but Hetmeyer will
In reply to Barry
Hetmyer 5 tons in 50 matches
Bravo scored his first ton after 51 matches
In reply to anthonyp
This has to be a joke
In reply to Baje
And Walsh was the leading bowler , so if your leading batman and leading bowle in the tournament can't make the squad then what is the purpose of the tournament ?
In reply to cricketfreak
Exactly….
In reply to lb aka Scammy poodle
You forget Scammy the head coach and chief wind bag has a big say in team selection. If he wanted Heads Bravo he would be in line up. Talk dun!
Haynes give a good political excuse for leaving out Bravo, but I can understand that, he might be covering for Sammy who might not want Bravo on the team. However if they are really planning for the next WC, why did they select Ottley? I would have persisted with Mayers, he potentially could be more productive and it would be easier to justify his selection
Having a difficult time with some of the selections and players not selected. If age a consideration with an eye on next ODI World Cup why Ottley at 34, Dowrich at 32 and Chase at 31? A right handed offie required, would Kelvin Sinclair not be a better choice for the future?
In reply to Baje
DH couldn't pick rice for me ....
In reply to Narper
In the context of WI cricket explain how/why Bravo's ODI record isn't good. Remember now ODI s/r in the game has upped significantly post 2014 and Bravo debuted quite some time prior so don't watch that only.
In reply to Overthrow
I’m convinced the good Doctor has lost his marbles. I listened to the part of his interview when he discussed DM Bravo non selection, if one is to take Dr Haynes seriously, then he should explain how it is Ottley at 34 yrs old is replacing an injured Greaves who was selected to open the batting.i say that to say, in the squad picked, is King, Hope, who has excelled as an opener and Athanze who has opened in white ball cricket.
Do we really need 4 batsmen capable of opening the batting in a 3 match series, I think not. If Haynes was looking for a stop gap. He should have picked the inform Bravo. We always make that mistake picking teams and leaving out the most in form batsman.
