As much as we wish, only time will tell. We need someone who's of the same calibre

First you cannot compare a short period of Hope's career with the entirety of Viv's and expect to have a serious discussion.
Second a Honda Accord regardless of how reliable is not a Mercedes Benz.

Yes. Happy?
I can only
a. Shai's sr is still to 'catch up' with Viv's a man who played with a much tinier bat, larger boundaries, one ball per innings and less field restrictions.
b. Viv's s/r was above 99% of his peers, Shai's below 90% of his i.e. Top Orders around the world
c. Although during Viv's Career WI did face a few weak ENG/Oz teams here n there (emerging Lanka once or twice and an odd associate in WC) a few times it cannot be compared
to the # of low-quality associates Hope has faced. Thank Jah for him but let's stay realistic.
You know I kept reading this board (Backroom especially) because so much and so many interesting things can be learned.
I am however often shocked at how so many 'educated' people are unable to use data and to understand and apply logic.
One man ascribed Marlon Samuels' post-ban success completely to Sammy's 'leadership.' 'Figet seh' He came back to cricket hungry, figat seh one of
the few accomplishments of Gibson was getting along with Marlon figet dat Marlon relished a challenge and his best efforts were vs. A sledging England and two finals
where he said to Gayle and Co. 'Just get me to the final'
Man...some of you don't know Viv and his class
few could compare

Have you ever seen Viv bat? There is Viv, space, Lara, space, then others

short answer would be NO and emphatic one at that, it is preposterous to even attempt such a comparison of players from different eras, but if you must, one cannot use Stats alone. Shai is no doubt the best of our current Lot. However, when one compares pure presence at the wicket, domination of opposing bowling attacks and general impact on the game itself
I don't think I need to say anymore......

Even Gayle was larger than Shai, in those nonquantifiable qualities!
