Kuldeep Yadav to Root, leg byes, 2 runs, dropped! Tough chance but Jurel does get a glove to it. Spinning down leg and Root attempts to glance, gets a slight deflection and Jurel does not hang on. The ball hits his left glove and rolls away to fine leg. But umpire Rod Tucker has signalled leg byes

dropped on 48

class Test knock, after dropped on 48

Akash Deep to Root, FOUR, there's the hundred. Root takes off his helmet and kisses the badge on it. Stokes gives the thumbs up from the pavilion. He was under pressure coming into this game because of various reasons - low scores in the series and the way he has been dismissed.

And people wonder why the new boy Jaiswal can play so freely at the top of the order.

When you have a bowling attack like India has at the moment you can have all the confidence in the world to put the sword to the opposition without fear of failure.

Narper 2024-02-23 15:20:39

In reply to SnoopDog

On a day when Root got to one of his slowest Test hundreds of all time, the one thing that stood out apart from his patience was the shot selection. Multiple times in the series he had thrown away starts, including the two headline grabbing strokes - a reverse ramp against Jasprit Bumrah and a reverse lap against Ravichandran Ashwin - both of which were dismissals that were pivotal to the team's fortunes.

Man seh eff Bazball...he putting dong roots
Expect a double ton for Joe Root

SnoopDog 2024-02-23 15:34:04

In reply to Narper

A guy of Root's class and caliber doesn't need to play that reckless "Bazball" style of cricket.

They have enough batters in the top order which will play like that. He really did a disservice to his team on this tour in the previous matches when he got out so stupidly playing a style of game he doesn't need to play.

Raskil 2024-02-24 03:44:59

One hour until India bat?

shivnotout 2024-02-24 07:26:18

In reply to Raskil

Robinson to Jaiswal, no run, narrow escape for Jaiswal. England cannot believe it. Stokes has his hands on his head. They feel it went straight into the gloves and even celebrated after looking at the first replay. But Joel Wilson had a couple of replays and decided that the ball bounced before going in.

Dragged on! Bashir has his fourth and this is a massive wicket. England know the importance of this wicket as the run to mob Bashir. Jaiswal is distraught and stands there for some time before starting the long walk. This is fraction short and hence Jaiswal goes back to play it through the off-side, but the ball stays low and hits the toe-end, bounces back onto the stumps. The length was short but he was deceived by the low bounce. India have lost half their side and are still a long way from England's total. Jaiswal b Shoaib Bashir 73(117)

Gill, Patidar and now Ashwin.

England are not complaining now. This one scoots through, Ashwin had a big stride forward but is still beaten by the low bounce, struck on the pad and ball-tracking shows it to brushing the leg-stump.

top knock this.

Oh what a heartbreak! Dhruv Jurel did nothing wrong here. He came forward to defend this flighted delivery but Tom Hartley absolutely ripped this through quicker. The ball gripped extra because of that from middle and leg and turned away past the bat to hit off stump. Dhruv Jurel can't believe he's missed it. England players congratulate Jurel for that knock. Not close at all. India won dis with the 307 in di first innings. The Pommie collapse was di icing on di cake.

4REALQUICKS 2024-02-26 08:57:12

And India continue their record home winning streak, which now extends to 17 series played in India without a defeat.

England lose the series despite facing an India team without Kohli, Shami and Rahul. Indian strength in depth is very impressive, with some fine performances from their younger players who came into the side during the series. Jaiswal, exceptional with 655 runs at an average of 93, including scores of 80, 209, 214* and 73. He made a valuable contribution in every test match and heading into the fifth and final test match, has almost twice as many runs as the next batsman on either side. Next in the run aggregate is Shubman Gill, with 342 runs at an average of 48. For England, Zak Crawley leads with 328 runs at 41.

Of the bowlers, Tom Hartley has 20 wickets (avg 33), with Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja each taking 17 wickets at 13 and 25 apiece respectively.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Dhruv Jurel

Narper 2024-02-26 14:39:42

No Kohli for the entire series, no KL Rahul for three Tests, no Jadeja for a Test, no Ashwin for half-a-Test, no Bumrah for the 4th Test - India were deprived of some serious talent and were up against the 'Bazballers' of England, but it's Rohit Sharma's men who've had the last laugh.

Narper 2024-02-26 14:41:57

Dhruv Jurel | Player of the Match -
I play according to the demands of the situation. The 1st innings, we needed to get runs as well, we knew we had to bat last and so any runs would be vital. I was involved in some partnerships, so credit does go to all those who stayed and added runs. I just saw the ball and then reacted to it, not thinking too far ahead. The conversation was good (with Shubman Gill in the 2nd innings), we just broke it into 10-run sets and started developing the partnership.

The series loss doesn't matter all that much, what is important is the style of test cricket that produces a fascinating game, like the test matches in Australia and all the matches England have played under this Bazball era. This is a young English side and their approach under Bazball is refreshing.

India tried dull cricket, but you can see how hard they were forced pushed by the opposition to play positive cricket in their home turf and in the end, cricket won. In Safraz, their keeper and Jai and a couple other youngsters, they have the talent to adopt a better approach going forward.

The crowd was scanty- witness day 5 in WI v Australia in comparison.

I would like to see India play more positive test cricket, they have all the resources and then some, plus a pool of player larger than the population of some of our islands.
