Trump: 25% tariff if you buy Venezuelan oil

President Donald Trump said Monday that he will impose tariffs of 25% on any nation that purchases oil from Venezuela.
“Venezuela has been very hostile to the United States and the Freedoms which we espouse. Therefore, any Country that purchases Oil and/or Gas from Venezuela will be forced to pay a Tariff of 25% to the United States on any Trade they do with our Country.” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.Trump claimed, without evidence, Venezuela has “purposefully and deceitfully” sent criminals, including violent individuals and members of gangs like Tren de Aragua, to the United States.

This news comes after reports that Trump is set to delay prior tariffs he announced, including charging 25% on imports of pharmaceuticals, cars and lumber. Those tariffs were set to go into effect April 2, the same day Trump’s said he’ll announce a number of reciprocal tariffs on other nations – a day he refers to as “liberation day.”

Second largest importer of oil from Venezuela after China. About a quarter VEN exports.

.........

In January, the United States imported 8.6 million barrels of oil from Venezuela, it was about 13% of crude oil imported by U.S. Gulf Coast refineries

In 2023, the United States imported roughly 4.4 million barrels of petroleum per day from Canada,

Like many others in the dUNCe tribe, these premature celebrations and ejaculations of joy expose that you really have no interest in what benefits the country, once your party isn't in power.

You feel only PNM people stand to benefit or not benefit from the arrangement?

Btw increased tariffs by the USA does not automaticalaly scuttle any deal. All it means is some of our our exporters will be subject to the same kind of tariffs we place on US imports. (Incidentally the latest numbers for TnT exports to the USA is 37% of total)
Kamla and the whole bunch of dUNCe unpatriotic ingrates like the resident cut&paste keyboad warrior have been calling for US sanctions against their country of birth for years now.
The desire for power and money really does corrupt eh!! rolleyes

It seems you have a comprehension problem and an assimilation one also.
If one criticizes the present government, they are deemed to be the opposition.
Your head is so far up your PNM rasses, you can't see ahead.

If you had a high school education and a working brain, you would be very dangerous.

Rubio urges T&T to support US moves against Venezuela’s Maduro regime:

The Trump regime has taken a hard stance against Venezuelan oil and gas extraction, production and sales, by threatening heavy sanctions against countries that do energy business with the Maduro regime.
Around 1.30 pm yesterday, the State Department added another layer to the threats, posting on its Facebook page a tweet made by Rubio on Tuesday, which read: “The US will not tolerate any third-countries or their oil companies producing, extracting, or exporting oil and oil-related products with the Maduro regime in Venezuela.”

Yesterday, following his first bilateral meeting with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Rubio said the US is not trying to sever the programme utilised by several Caricom nations, including T&T, he stressed that the Cuban regime exploits its doctors.

“The doctors are not paid in many parts of the world. You pay the Cuban government. The Cuban government decides how much if anything to give them. They take away their passports. They basically operate as forced labour in many places.
