Hurricanes vs Scorpions

BASSETERRE, St Kitts (CMC) — Nikita Miller and Damion Jacobs produced further evidence that spin remains the undoing of Leeward Islands Hurricanes' batsmen, when they bowled Jamaica Scorpions to a 157-run victory in the Regional 4-Day Championship yesterday.
Left-arm spinner Miller bagged 5-31 from 20 overs, ending with match figures of 10-87, and leg-spinner Jacobs collected 3-65 from 19.4 overs, as the Hurricanes were bowled out for 144 in their second innings on the final day of their fourth-round match at Warner Park.
West Indies A team opener Montcin Hodge and rookie Terence Warde led the way with 30 apiece, former Scorpions' wicketkeeper/batsman and part-time medium-fast bowler Devon Thomas made 25 and Hurricanes Captain Rahkeem Cornwall added 23.
Miller, playing his first match of the season, following an off-season medical procedure, and Jacobs, a member of the West Indies A team in their recent home series against Sri Lanka A, again emphasised their value to the Scorpions. And Volcanoes were quickly in trouble, losing key batsmen to slump to 62 for three at lunch.

Volcanoes vs Pride

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, (CMC) – Barbados finally won their first match of the newly-minted Regional Four-Day Championship, making light work of Windward Islands Volcanoes in thrashing them by 135 runs in their fourth round encounter here Sunday.

The result broke a sequence of poor results which saw the traditionally strong visitors losing one and drawing two of their opening three matches.Resuming the day on 148 for nine, Pride added a further 23 runs before they were dismissed in their second innings for 171 – 20 minutes into the morning session. And Volcanoes were quickly in trouble, losing key batsmen to slump to 62 for three at lunch.

Red Force vs Jaguars

TAROUBA, Trinidad, (CMC) – Three-time reigning champions, Guyana Jaguars, dominated Trinidad and Tobago Red Force to leave the hosts on the ropes, as they closed in on a convincing victory on day three of their day/night Regional four-day match here Saturday.
Jaguars twice scythed through the Red Force batting line-up, bundling them out for a paltry 120 in the first innings and before leaving them hanging by a string 106 for six in their second innings – still 258 runs adrift of an innings defeat in the fourth round encounter at the Brian Lara Stadium.
Things could have been worse for Red Force were it not for a defiant, unbroken seventh wicket stand of 44 between Daniel St Clair, unbeaten on 26, and Imran Khan, not out on 20, late in the final session. The spinners had earlier done the trick for Jaguars as left-arm spinners Veerasammy Permaul (4-43) and Gudakesh Motie (4-46) shared eight wickets as Red Force collapsed from 66 without loss to lose their last 10 wickets for just 54 runs.

Volcanoes vs Pride

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Out-of-favour West Indies left-arm spinner, Jomel Warrican, struck twice in as many balls in the final session to hand Barbados Pride the advantage on the second day of their fourth-round Regional four-day contest against Windward Islands Volcanoes.
At the close of play at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex today, Volcanoes were battling on 151 for five in in their first innings, in reply to Pride’s 360 all out earlier in the day.
Spinner Jomel Warrican’s important strikes gave Barbados Pride the edge over the Volcanoes. They were in good shape at one stage on 89 for two but Warrican knocked over Kavem Hodge for 38 and Barbadian Kirk Edwards without scoring in successive deliveries, to hurt the innings.
However, Roland Cato came to his side’s aid with an unbeaten 47, and was partnered by Barbadian Kyle Mayers on 21, at stumps.
Volcanoes trail by 209 runs heading into Saturday’s pivotal penultimate day.

Hurricanes vs Scorpions

BASSETERRE, St Kitts (CMC) — Leeward Islands Hurricanes Captain Rahkeem Cornwall led a lion-hearted effort from the bowling attack yesterday to leave his side with a final-day chase of 302 for victory against Jamaica Scorpions in the Regional Four-Day championship.
The burly Cornwall collected 4-32 from 29 overs with his high-class off spin, and fast-medium bowlers Sheeno Berridge and Jeremiah Louis shared five wickets as the Scorpions were bowled out for 191 in their second innings just before the close, on the third day of their fourth-round match at Warner Park.
Derval Green, batting at seven, led the way for the Scorpions with 51 that included nine fours from 48 balls in just over an hour at the crease.
A few others got starts without carrying on, as the unreliability of the Scorpions' batting once again reared its head — their Captain Nikita Miller scored 26, opener Garth Garvey made 23, left-handed opening partner John Campbell got 22, and Damion Jacobs was not out on 20.
Berridge scalped 3-47 from 12.3 overs and Louis 2-47 from 15 overs to complete the demolition of the Scorpions' second-innings batting.

PCL: Round 4; Day 2

Jaguars (484-8 dec) vs Red Force 51-0

Jangoo was not out on 32 and Hope was not out on 18, as they batted through 19 overs in an hour-and-a-half before stumps were drawn to give Red Force a strong start to their reply. Singh made an even 100 – his eighth first-class hundred – to become the second century-maker of the innings behind Johnson, whose 165 helped to propel Jaguars to a declaration just over an hour before the scheduled close. Singh has reeled off scores of 119, 8 not out, 97 and 34 prior to this innings after he missed the first match of the season, due to his involvement with the Windies “A” Team in their three “Test” home series against Sri Lanka “A”. He put on 183 with Johnson, establishing a new Jaguars third-wicket record against Red Force in the modern era of the West Indies first-class championship (1966 onwards) to eclipse the previous mark of 179 shared between legendary, former Windies captain Clive Lloyd and another former Windies batsman Len Baichan 44 years ago at Skeldon in Guyana. Sophomore off-spinner Bryan Charles captured 5-134 from 43 overs to be the pick of the Red Force bowlers on an unresponsive pitch.

 Scorpions (342) vs Hurricanes (209-6)

Cornwall followed up a typically steady bowling effort with a resolute batting to reach 28 not out and Warde was not out on 21, as they helped their side recover from a mid-innings crisis triggered by Miller. The pair has so far shared 59 – unbroken – for the seventh wicket to stabilize the Hurricanes’ innings, after Miller, playing his first match of the season, grabbed 3-56 from 27 overs to leave the home team wobbling on 150 for six. Hurricanes had failed to build on a half-century opening stand between Windies “A” Team opener Montcin Hodge and rugged, former Kent left-hander Chesney Hughes, losing wickets at regular intervals to undermine their bid for a strong reply. Hodge has led the way for the Hurricanes with an even 50, Devon Thomas and Jamaica-born Nkrumah Bonner both made 33, and Hughes supported with 20. This followed token resistance from the Scorpions before they were bowled out in their first innings with Paul Palmer, their captain for the first three matches in Miller’s absence, leading the way with 86. Cornwall was the most successful Hurricanes bowler, taking 4-86 from 29.3 overs, and there were two wickets apiece for Jeremiah Louis and Sheeno Berridge.

Pride (360) vs Volcanoes 151-5

Warrican struck twice in as many balls, knocking over two players with whom he is very familiar to put the Volcanoes on the back foot. The home team were in good shape on 89 for two, but Warrican removed Barbados-based batsman Kavem Hodge for 38 and former Pride captain Kirk Edwards without scoring in successive deliveries. But Roland Cato, not out 47, and Barbadian Kyle Mayers, not out on 21, batted through almost an hour to carry the Volcanoes through to stumps. Earlier, Pride were dismissed about 40 minutes after lunch, after resuming from their overnight 273 for five. All-rounder Kevin Stoute hit the top score of 84 and his clubmate Justin Greaves carved out 54 in a valuable 91-run, sixth-wicket stand. Volcanoes captain Tyrone Theophile captured a career-best 5-56 from 23 overs with his part-time off-spin to be the unlikely bowling hero for his side and Test off-spinner Shane Shillingford supported with 3-102 from 45 overs.

Hurricanes vs Scorpions

BASSETERRE, St Kitts (CMC) — Half-centuries from Paul Palmer, Assad Fudadin and John Campbell highlighted consistent batting down the order from Jamaica Scorpions, giving them a strong start to their Regional Four-Day Championship match against Leeward Islands Hurricanes yesterday.

The trio were all involved in a slew of solid partnerships that propped up the unpredictable Scorpions batting, as they reached 315 for seven in their first innings at the close, after they chose to bat on the first day of their fourth-round match at Warner Park.

Palmer, freed of the burden of captaincy with the return of champion left-arm spinner Nikita Miller, was unbeaten on 78, and left-handers Fudadin and Campbell made 58 and 57, respectively, as the Scorpions used this well-known Caribbean batting paradise to restore confidence, after it took a hit in the previous match against Barbados Pride.

Volcanoes vs Pride

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Opener Anthony Alleyne led a strong batting parade from Barbados Pride in their Regional 4-Day Championship match against Windward Islands Volcanoes today.

The left-handed opener led the way with 82 and was one of four batsmen that plundered half-centuries to carry the Pride to 273 for five in their first innings at the close after they were put in to bat on the first day of their fourth-round match at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex.

All-rounder Kevin Stoute was not out on 59, Kenroy Williams made 55 and left-handed opener Shayne Moseley scored 54, as none of the Pride’s batsmen carried on to a hundred, but it was a solid effort and they were rewarded for their resolute batting.

Red Force vs Jaguars

Played between the two teams that participated in the very first Day/Night First-Class match with pink balls in the West Indies in 2010, Guyana Jaguars were in firm control on 245-2 against T&T Red Force when day one of their CWI Digicel Regional Four-Day Day/Night contest ended yesterday under lights at the Brian Lara Academy.Thirty year old Skipper Leon Johnson led from the front with his 32nd First-Class half-century. His unbeaten 106, his fifth ton at this level, lasted 220 balls and was decorated with 11 boundaries.Johnson, one of seven left-handers in the team, shared in a 174-run partnership with 21-year-old Tagenarine Chanderpaul who made a patient 84 with eight fours from 235 balls. The pair joined forces in the 15th over when Chanderpaul Hemraj was caught behind off Bajan Roshan Primus for a cameo 22 with four boundaries at 33-1.Primus and Daniel St Clair were the only wicket-takers as the Red Force struggled for penetration all day, Vishaul Singh (22) and Johnson saw their team to the close. Guyana replaced pacer Romario Shepherd with left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie and opted to bat in sunny conditions on a graveyard dead track on which the pick ball failed generate any bounce.
