South Africa take series against feeble West Indies

With every day they remain in South Africa, West Indies' chances of pulling together a respectable World Cup challenge falters before our eyes. They made only 122 at Buffalo Park in the third ODI, a spiritless and, at times, irresponsible, display full of ghastly, ill-judged shots and glum expressions. A nine-wicket defeat later revealed itself much as expected.

Three days earlier, the crowd in Johannesburg had feasted on an AB de Villiers world record; in what was only Buffalo Park's third ODI in nine years, the townsfolk of East London had to suffer a mismatch, concluded in spots of drizzle. Truly, the big cities get all the fun.

East London took their pleasure in Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis, lording it over the West Indies attack for unbeaten half centuries as the match was wrapped up with more than 41 overs unused, not so long after some had come in from work.

NAGICO Super50 roundup, final day of elimination round

Cooper's best puts Trinidad & Tobago in semis

Kevon Cooper's career-best 62 not out took Trinidad & Tobago to a 49-run win over Leeward Islands at Port-of-Spain, clinching the top spot in Group B for T&T while eliminating Leewards from contention for the semi-finals. Cooper's previous List-A top score was an unbeaten 17, but after entering with the score 114 for 6 he peppered the boundary through cover and point to lift his side to 206, a good recovery after T&T had lost the toss and were sent in to bat.

Earlier in the innings, Dwayne and Darren Bravo teamed for T&T's best partnership - 62 runs for the fifth wicket - to get their side back on course after a rocky start left them 45 for 4 in the 16th over. Gavin Tonge dismissed the opening combo of Evin Lewis and Nicholas Sookdeosingh and finished with 3 for 33.

Jamaica vs Leeward Islands

Jamaica clinched a semi-final spot against Guyana on Thursday with a nine-wicket win over West Indies Under-19 at Couva. Jamaica inserted the junior side in to bat and struck three balls into the game as Marquino Mindley had Shimron Hetmyer caught behind without scoring, one of his two wickets on the day.

NAGICO Super50 roundup, day 5

Late drama as CCC scrape into semis

Port of Spain, Trinidad - The Combined Campuses & Colleges Marooners pulled off a sensation one-wicket victory over the Guyana Jaguars with Christopher Powell hitting a boundary off the penultimate ball of the match to take his side home.

Set a small target of 172 runs, the Marooners struggled in their chase, consistently losing wickets along the way. Paul Palmer kept up the inning with a patient knock of 32 from 94 balls but once he went, the Marooners slipped back into trouble.

With a tense finish in sight, Ravmon and Christopher Powell took the Marooners to within touching distance of victory. Powell hit an aggressive 31 from 30 balls but it would be Christopher that turned out to be the hero.

Why cricket needs yellow and red cards

Watching from the luxury of my couch and after hearing numerous accounts from respected cricket people, there is a growing concern that David Warner's thuggish behaviour has gone too far. Soon one day it will lead to an incident that will sully the game for good.

As Ian Chappell has said often recently, that soon enough someone will get king-hit on a cricket field. Warner may just be the one who gets pinned by someone in retaliation. And if it is him who gets hammered, it will be overdue - if wrong.

No one, let alone an umpire, who has enough on his plate in the international game, wants to have to reprimand or babysit a bunch of boorish, childish adults during play for these ugly spats that are becoming commonplace. But they need to. Before things escalate the ICC needs to arm the officials with everything possible to stop the idiots who are ruining our enjoyment of the game.
