Old vs New Laptop, Computer X-Perts come in

ToldUSo 2014-09-27 05:53:58

So a week ago I decided to buy a new laptop, here is what I see:

Old laptop: Loud sound, wifi strong.

New Laptop: Windows 8 sound weak even when I enhanced it. Wifi constantly in and out, don't know if someone is stealing off my signal, but why does the old laptop work just fine.

My solution, I going to Best Buy to buy a booster for my router, booster a good idea yes or no____________?

Constantly having to switch back and forth to airplane mode to keep getting signal on new laptop.

......don't know if someone is stealing off my signal,.....

Might be the Martians. You never know.

After all, if the Martians cannot yet figure out how to build a phone to call NASA to say hi, I doubt they'll be able to figure out how to have their own internet.

Already made the purchase, my niece is a mac person, I always feel like a fish out of water on her Mac.

Now are you in anyway familiar with this problem, I tried to find out if Belkin had new drivers for Windows 8 or the New Google Chrome for Windows 8, no luck so far. Do you think it might be a driver problem, and will the booster solve the problem______?

Ran all the test I can on both laptops, here are my findings.

-Old laptop with Vista can pick up a signal 30 feet away.

-New computer with Windows 8.1 cannot pick up a sustained signal from 6 feet away, keeps losing the signal. With the router right next to this laptop, no problem. The only sustained signal comes at night, no problems at night.

So I guess it a booster for my router, but I haven't given up on the driver thing if anyone has any ideas of updated Belkin F9K1000 driver.

Difficult to answer without model numbers? is it new or refurbished?

there is also the consideration of the build type...some are sturdy business class builds and others are flimsy home use builds, etc, etc...

Chances are that you have an Intel wireless adapter...I find they work like crap. I have a similar issue and I had to get USB wireless adapter that works much better so I disabled my onboard.

Always ask yourself this question...what changed? and start looking there...so I would be thinking about exchanging the laptop rather that boosting my wireless unless you know of an issue that would cause it to not be as reliable with newer equipment...it doesn't sound that way.

you changed hardware and you ended up with a weaker wireless card, and crappy speakers. cool

Thank you all.

It's a New Toshiba. I think my boosting the wifi is my best option, as for the sound, I'll deal with that later if at all, sound is not bad on other devices, but Youtube it's much lower, go figure. Darn Google needs to do something about Youtube, first they totally block Real player, now the reduced volume.
