Grammacks...first Caribbean band to play in a Superbowl.
In reply to Commie

Grammacks has a Marley medley, it's the best Marley medley instrumentally I have heard
In reply to Commie
what year did Grammacks play in Super Bowl?
Tabou Combo .... femme na dance cu mabouya.
In reply to Curtis
Feb 1979, half time show.
In reply to Commie
Super bowl was never played in Feb in the '70s .
In reply to camos
It was actually January 21st.
The point remains it was Superbowl XIII in Miami in 1979. Any more objections ?
List of Halftime Shows...including 1979
In reply to Commie
Just researched it.
Tip my hat to you mate.
In reply to Commie
Wrong wannabe tit!!!
Merrymen pon da show tuh..I and I watch at downtown speakeasy!!
In reply to che
Merrymen played on the same bill which was Headlined by Grammacks.
Nowhere except in a hotel lobby could Merrymen be compared to Grammacks.
In reply to Commie
U speak wid fork tongue mate!!!!

In reply to che
Well..i have the CD somewhere but you can get it Its on amazon I'm sure.
Most of the other Caribbean bands to play on the bill were groups who represented sounds across the region.
Many weren't even based in the region and some were not even active.
Grammacks were pretty much the highest profile band on the bill.
The fact that they got lumped in with those others is just a salutary lesson for those who differentiate between 'dots'.
Maybe there is video somewhere.
In reply to Commie
My Steelers were playing that day so I missed the Grammacks gig
In reply to Curtis
watched the game ,but was never big on half time shows, took a peek because Jamaica military band played two tunes, can't remember the rest.
In reply to Curtis
That is a great video...

Have to give props to Farmer Nappy here, though Exodus
In reply to JohnBull
Tabou Combo gets a mention for sure
nice concert
French Caribbean music has some wonderfully different rhythms that they are loyal to, as compared to the English Caribbean
I would be remiss to not include Roy Cape & the Kaiso All-Stars
Their strength is they do very well live, but no albums or cd's to rave about
T&T -FITZ VAUGHAN BRYAN ; JOHN BUDDY
WILLIAMS ; THE DUTCHIE BROTHERS
FROM SVG - BLACKSAND ; LATINAIRES ;
BLUE RHYTHMS ;
by the way some of the best bands in the region are the Police brass bands...went to function at the Bajan PM's official residence the night before WI played England some years back and the Barbados Police band was jamming...when they played 'Jah by my side' the reggae tune, I was in awe
I know the Guyana Police band had some of the best musicians in the country

In reply to doosra
best T&T all-Chinese steel band I've ever seen for sure
In reply to Curtis
These are guys who were popular before
You Tube , etc . However if you Check :
ISLANDS MIX ; You would see mention of the
the Trinidad Bands , including Sel Duncan .
I you Google Musician Syl Mc Intosh of SVG
& also his Cousin Frankie Mc Intosh , they
were leaders of Bands .
Frankie Mc Intosh currently arranges for most of the Calypsonians from SVG . He
has also arranged for Sparrow & other Calypsonians from Trinidad .
The fact that you & others never heard
them , should not be a negative reflection of their Music or their musicianship .
In reply to POINT
I hear about Frankie before...
nah man not a negative reflection at all, I welcome hearing about our musical ancestry
In reply to Curtis
u hear dem do suhani raat? dem got it

Cultural integration...positive indeed...
In reply to POINT
oh that Frankie Mcintosh!!! yes man...him arrange for Beckett, Winston Soso, Cro-Cro, etc... ok...a legend from SVG
How about this one - Dave Martins from Guyana - WICB take a Rest

In reply to Curtis

In reply to Curtis
what would you call blee and his dragonaires? pawtee boys?
The best ever band from the Caribbean, purely from a musicianship perspective, is Cuba's Irakere
In reply to imusic
Their horns sound awesome
In reply to doosra
ok. Byron Lee deserves a mention as a band-leader with great musicians too. Although he covered a high percentage of other people's music, he had some good originals.

In reply to Curtis
Best live band I have ever seen/heard...from the C'bean or anywhere else for that matter
In reply to Oilah
Brother Bob and his crew were not too shabby and may be one of the world's all-time great bands
In reply to Curtis
The Dutchy Brothers is up there with the best of them so also is John Buddy Williams , who was before the Duchy Brothers , ANY TRINI , who say they never heard about John Buddy Williams , or the Dutchy Brothers , knows nothing about music .
BTW , that also applies to those who never heard about Fitz Vaughan Bryan , who had a huge hit called " TAN TAN " He was another Trinidadian , ask persons over 50 years old , Tan Tan was a massive hit .
Frankie Mc Intosh & Syl Mc Intosh are cousins , they come from families of Musicians . However in SVG the name
Mc Intosh , is generally linked to GEORGE
MC INTOSH ; who with Albert Marryshow &
others were the first who believed in
Unity for the English speaking Caribbean Countries in the Region .
In reply to Oilah
Say it again! And say it loud and proud!
Simply awesome!
