Usain Bolt: Horrible Neighbor or Uptown Top Ranking?

FanAttick 2015-05-31 08:51:52

Horrible neighbor or Uptown Top Ranking?

Track superstar Usain Bolt has been accused of being an inconsiderate neighbour by the wife of dancehall hit maker Sean Paul.

“Between the bikes … loud, horrid music, parties and screams, I honestly wish he would go back to where he came from. He’s a horrible neighbour. I cannot wait to move,” Jodi Stewart-Henriques, also called Jinx, said via social media in a long rant.

Stewart-Henriques is a resident of upscale upper St Andrew community Norbrook.

Her rant started on Monday when a resident of Norbrook posted on Facebook that the bike riders in the area were very inconsiderate – to which Jinx promptly replied that the blame should be placed directly on Bolt and his brother.

Jinx said she sought an intervention by the police but the authorities have not responded because “it’s Bolt”. Clearly upset, she went as far as saying she has lost “all respect” for the Olympian.

If Mrs Paul thinks she has it bad she should check with Bolt's neighbors who have to run to his immediate left and right..,
lol lol

There goes the neighborhood!

Back in the late 70s when lots of uptowners opted to take up Joshua on his 5 flights a day to Miami offer, one of my brethren was among those who took advantage of the great reduction in house prices on The Hill and settled into Lee's Flats.

As he told us, the only problem he had was that the place was too quiet. It almost drove him nuts, so he placed a couple of his 'Big Boxes' on the veranda and started blasting.

jacksprat 2015-05-31 21:57:45

Some of these snobs only want people of Bolt's hue in their neighborhood only if they come as gardeners or helpers and, helpfully, leave before dark.

"He does not belong here; He should go back from where he came"!

What century are we living in?rolleyes

I see another one pining for the "good old days"!

Yeah that maybe true, but coarse and boorish behavior should be viewed as unacceptable whether uptown or downtown

That said, her prejudice is glaring!

Amazing..how people just jump to the conclusion that she's a snob and all that.

She MAY or MAY not be exaggerating or whatever..but what evidence is there for people to just assume a side in this issue like that.

I know what a neighbour who blasts loud music all day can be like. We all have a responsibility to be sensible about living with our neighbours.

summergon 2015-06-01 09:22:50

It is okay for her to complain about the noise but for her to say "go back weh you come from" is not sitting well with me.

Wally, that is not my only take but her prejudice and condescension are palpable! Respect should be reciprocal!

It is evident, by her thing veiled comments-'poppy show", "clown", "go back where he came from"- that she does not see Usain Bolt as her social equal. There is a right and wrong way to go about disputes, real or imagined, with one's neighbors. Her is not the right way.

At core, she feels Bolt has no place in her exclusive neighborhood despite his wealth, fame and accomplishment. I am sure you are familiar with the type!

Moreover, one does not even know if what she is claiming is indeed true. First, she claimed to have made report(s) to the police about Bolt, yet they cast doubt on this because they have no record of any such complaint; second, Bolt's immediate neighbors say what she is claiming is at best overblown and, at worst, a blatant lie!

pelon 2015-06-01 13:21:16

OF COURSE she has every right to complain about excessive loud noise/music, motorcycles etc. But it is the way she presents her case.... totally filled with class snobbery.

At core, she feels Bolt has no place in her exclusive neighborhood despite his wealth, fame and accomplishment. I am sure you are familiar with the type!
Exactly.

Snobbery at play here. "High color" snobbery in the Caribbean context. The "He should go back from where he came" takes this to a whole other level.

I honestly can’t blame the set of UPT (uptown) that have him as poppy show in parties or on their boat. He’s the ultimate party clown.
-Jodi Stewart-Henriques

wat ah petty, bitch like comment.

Indeed boss...that's the part that really got to me. Bolt from the hills of Trelawny.

Then again, I understand...known these people all my life. Norbrook, Cherry Gardens...Immaculate Conception High School Class. Must say my daughter attended Immaculate...know dem peeps well so I'm not surprised tho' some of them are fakers.

All about Jodi below...who the phuck is she? To me, just anodda Uptown Skettel seeking attention. Woman has issues. Of course no one wants to hear loud noise/music 24/7 but she is portraying herself as a Nun.

We're at Digicel's global headquarters in downtown Kingston with this fireball VJ, who was recently named the company's new campaign face for Bacchanal.

"Jinx is very loud, constantly talking and always has something to say. She's the life of the party and, of course, the life of the carnival party."

Henriques says, explaining that for years she has been travelling to Trinidad for their carnival parade and parties.

Media is not something she had considered while growing up or while sifting through career choices at Immaculate Conception High

Luckily, I don't have a nine to five, so I have the opportunity to juggle stuff around. My husband, who is the main breadwinner in the family, is not always here, so I cater to him when he is here.

The night before I went to Denmark to study and live for a year, I went to Grasshoppers off Constant Spring Road and he sent his friend over to ask if I wanted to be in a Sean Paul video. I went over to him and cursed him off. Then I came back from Denmark and kept seeing him at parties; we became friends and got closer after that,

Nuff sides to the story, she is not all wrong but the way she went about it and how she said what she said puts her in a bad light.

jacksprat 2015-06-01 15:26:06

Why should his mom & dad have to remind him of his "roots in Trelawny" ?

Is he getting a bit too uppity for his own good?

You would be surprised how many of these pretentious uptown snobs, and parents of some of these sketels, got their wealth through illicit means!

Many of us know the score!

Two wrongs don't make a right. Both of them have their immaturity on display.

Bolt: Bolt being an immature neighbor - the neighbour is desirable BECAUSE of community conformity, not the individuals in it. (Nutting new, wealth+youth: a la Justin Bieber type in the States)

Jodi: Turf protection 101. Showing she is a classless snob - who rode her man's wealth, status and fame to become yet another "high color" society biatch.
I smell ENVY!! She probably envious that her neighbor has more respect and public adoration that her man currently... him turn over her apple-cart.

----

Signed covenants hardly exist in Caribbean neighborhoods. Only started in some areas in recent years, but legally if she has an issue with Bolt, all she can do is call the law after trying to politely ask him to "turn it down".

She comes off as a straight up bitch!

jacksprat 2015-06-01 15:55:03

We all have a right to peace and quiet in our own homes. I have no issue with calling the authorities if one feels one is being disturbed.

That said, I would never tell my neighbor to "go back where he came from" or cast any aspersion on his/her background.

That is out of order!

HumbleCalf 2015-06-01 16:09:05

No issue with what you said and Bieber came to mind when I was posting. One thing - her (maiden) name spells money (nuff money). It could be that she is not one of "them" but if she is, her fambly is loaded.

Partying embedded in culture of almost all young Jamaicans.

Her husband is party man...obviously, she is also one.

As I said before, loud noise round di clock not good. Nobody wants to deal wid dat.

Sge even mek statement that shots fired from Bolt's house...dats after mekkin di loud noise complaints.

Now, Jamaica is not like before when u could fire shots illegally and get away because of who u are and who u know.

Shots fired...bet yuh life police going investigate.

sudden 2015-06-01 16:59:06

Money don't and can't buy etiquette or broughtupcy. If Bolt don't know how to behave in polite company and by extension neighborhood he should go somewhere that he fits in. Manners maketh man. It is that simple

pelon 2015-06-01 17:02:14

In reply to sudden

But what of her behavior? Perfectly fine by you? "go back to where you came from" is the dialog for neighbours - or a youte that does MUCH for his country... yes he needs to mature and respect the neighborhood - that was never in question.

sudden 2015-06-01 17:07:27

That comment seems to speak to the woman's frustration over his rather boorish behavior is how I see it. Have u ever had a neighbor like that? So without personally knowing either party, you are quick to take this supposed neighbor's word at face value, and apportion blame to Bolt with your judgmental comment?

Its difficult for someone who does not understand classism in Jamaica to understand what you are saying.

The manner could have certainly been handled differently, to date there as been no confirmation of her accusations by anyone in the community, the police etc.

All I have seen thus far is someone who believes that there social background makes them superior than others , an opinion that is strongly yet unfortunately still widely shared in Jamaica.

So the community at large and the www brought home the simple truth: She handled the situation like a straight up bitch.

Seeing that she got no support universally - and with a husband that needs the support of the many to buy/attend his music/concerts... she back peddles after "much introspection".

PLEASE! Her retraction is nothing more than self preservation - her true self has been revealed. Dinner table at the Pauls must have been quite interesting the last few nights.

Fly on the wall:

Wife: "But honey, I thought I had every right to shit on those people. EYWWW, they are not one of us.... he should just go back where he came from... how dare he play that type of loud music in THIS neighbourhood"

Husband: "But honey, [long pause] it was MY music em play"

BeatDball 2015-06-05 07:40:36

A few years ago, i tort this sister from Zimbabwe of how to drive. During the driving lessons, we would talk about various topics (cmg - it included my favorite bwoy, not yours, RGM). Anyway, it got to neighborhoods. Know why she moved out of my neighborhood? Oh, btw, how do know when a neighborhood is ok? I concurred with her - when u dont see teenagers constantly walking about the place! Now, run along! More so, when u hardly see peeps walking about the place.

"I disagree with the image painted by Jinx. Bolt has parties, very occasionally - maybe once or twice a year, as do I and the neighbours across the street. I am not sure how Jinx can distinguish between my parties and my neighbour's or Mr Bolt's. He also has had people over at his house, but not every night, every weekend or even every month. I am unsure if those get-togethers are being defined as parties. I do not consider them to be so. I also believe he has a right to have guests. He plays music at these functions, which I can hear, so perhaps Jinx can, too, but it is also not a nuisance that goes on all night or even excessively, certainly not in breach of any legislation."

A totally different picture....

I find it rich that Sean Paul, who loves to hold loud parties of his own, should have a wife who's being such a hypocrite.

Just in case the reactionaries refuse to click your links, Mike, allow me to copy a portion here to make it easier for them:

Marchand, 57, first made headlines in 1982 when he was found floating on a life raft about 30 miles east of Port Everglades with 600 pounds of marijuana he had tried to fly in from Jamaica. The airplane ran out of gas and crashed into the ocean where Marchand and his co-defendant Garth Henriques – the father of reggae star Sean Paul – were soon picked up by authorities.

Indeed, such are the "decent people" amongst whom Usain "should know how to live". That poster is nothin' but a damn poppy-show! Some of the others on this thread too.
