Best spells by a WI leggie
In reply to doosra
Cant think of any really good Leggies from WI.
Ramadhin was Offie as was Gibbs, Noreiga very briefly, et al
Hence why it is utter STUPIDITY not having a good Offie in the mix. NB Aus has Lyon and he will kick ass tomorrow! Beware Darren B !!!
In reply to doosra
I can remember Raw Loo Waste...world record peformer
What about Mahendra Nagamootoo...why didn't he get more chances...after de accident
Holford had a few good results
In reply to moneybrain
Interesting you can remember about Ramadhin the off-spinner but not his spin twin, the greatest leg-spinner of all, Alfred Valentine!
//
Alf Valentine took lots of wickets, and so too did Sobers as a leggie, but you are probably referring to a right-arm wrist spinner.
Not many of those played for WI. I can remember Dhanraj and Ramnarine taking a few. Butcher took a handful in a Test, bowling right-arm leg spin.
In reply to Ewart
Funny that Alfie V was a Leftie and NOT a Rht Leg Spinner!
Please wake up before U attempt to write!
In reply to Narper
I believe they said Leg spinners.
Arthur Barrett and Willie Rodriguez come to mind but neither was given a decent run b the selectors.
In reply to Norm
Where did Sobers take all these wickets as a leggie in tests?
In reply to Tagwa1
Check CricInfo ...
Sobers rarely bowled his back of the hand Chinamen and googlies and the last time he did successfully was in the Brisbane test of 1968 when he took 6-73.
That test was Clive Lloyd's debut test against Australia and he scored a wonderful 129 to become one of the few people to score debut centuries against both England and Australia.

Ramnarine could have been something special. He was penetrative and economical which is a rare combination in a right arm leg spinner at Test level. But then stupid politics took over and reduced his promising career to twelve games.
In reply to Fivestar
Virtually that was Carl Hooper

The best spell of leg spin bowling was articulated by yours truly in the 1970s. Many top class peeps including one illustrious WI batsman were befuddled, baffled and bamboozled
In reply to FanAttick
They all felt deeply insulted by the lack of spin, no doubt ...

so the right arm leggies are
1. Madray
2. Willie Rodriguez
3. Holford
4. Arthur Barrett
5. Dhanraj
6. Ramnarine
7. Lewis
8. Nagamootoo
9. Bishoo
10. Sarwan (?)
In reply to Norm
On the contrary they couldn't believe that a leggie could extract so much purchase..
In reply to doosra
Start at the beginning - with CR "Snuffy" Browne. Leg spinner, but quick through the air. Often described as a medium pacer.

In the hope that this will make any difference to the linguistically challenged, here goes.
This is just another case where "a little learning is a dangerous thing!" (Or, in this case, Alexander Pope might well have said "a lack of learning!!")
When a man bowls a ball to me and it spins from leg to off, I do not call it an "orthodox" ball. I call it a leg-break because that is what it is, and the bowler, whether right-handed or left handed, has bowled me a leg-break.
For shorter sentences, I guess, the term "orthodox" was developed to describe left handers who bowl leg-breaks because that is their natural ball. But they are still bowling leg breaks.
And then there is this from West Indies Cricket Souvenirs.com:
Valentine was the greatest left arm leg break bowler ever to play for the West Indies and arguablely to play the game.
Not that I believe this will convince you but at least I have placed it before everyone.

if you have sarwan what about shiv
In reply to Tagwa1
Lol...Not medium pacers bowling from a short run-up. haha
In reply to Fivestar
...and made the Board pay heavily for that...

Bishoo bowled beautifully. Best spell by a windies leggie I've seen since the great Mahendra Nagamootoo snared 3-119 vs the Aussies at the SCG in 2001
In reply to mental_case
No question. He bowled very well.

They felt deeply insulted at having to turn up for a curry goat match as paid professionals....
Dinas could have been better than warne but they destroyed his career like many trini cricketers before and after him...
The same victimization is happening now

Derek Isaac Kallicharran

Ha!! Better than Warne? Put down the crack pipe son.
In reply to Ewart
