Zika hits pregnant Bim women..
In reply to bravos
7 confirmed cases. 3 are pregnant women.
Strange ratio but I suspect the pregnant women with symptoms are more likely to get tested.

Scary all around, hope the ladies take necessary precautions, and I hope the doctors properly monitor the unborn.

Ouch...this will only add to the travel advisory in Britain. Cue more cancelled flights to Bim....

Come on now. The Pregnant person is not more likely to get the disease but pregnant women visit the doctor most often and they are also the most likely to be tested thus the detection rate will always be the highest.
You also need to understand what confirmed cases mean.

You are saying the same thing I did. Just putting more words in your sentence.

I do not think this hurts Tourism that much.
1. Zika is a problem for pregnant women. I would have to hear how many travelers are pregnant women but I would assume not a big number.
2. Zika is a worldwide problem.
So staying home does not mean a tourist a safe from Zika. But staying home means dealing with a miserable winter period.

agree because there is only a month to 6 weeks remaining in this season and people for the most part are already committed.

I am worried about this Zika thing. I am hoping the correlation between Zika and complications to fetuses is overblown. Barbados government has done a poor job fogging. Too busy spending money months in advance on an event in November.

with millions of migratory birds coming back in the spring NA may have a bigger outbreak than most tourists destinations.

Brother, you need to learn about the aetiology of the zika virus and the disease.

not into health care just speculating!
what is the epidemiology?
In reply to camos
That much is clear.
I am not trying to be derogatory. Zika has been in the news a long time.
In reply to camos
It's a Greek word which means studies upon people.
But I did not type epidemiology. I was a lot more specific.

it is just making news here because spring is around the corner .

So you are in the USA or somewhere the Northern Hemisphere?
You should have heard yesterday that President Obama asked Congress for 1.8 billion dollars to combat the disease.
You may wish however to ignore my suggestion to you.
I am out.

The problem is that this zika thing is sensationalized in Britain. I read an article given great prominence in the Evening Standard about a couple cancelling their honeymoon in Barbados. She was not pregnant...yet, according to the article.
Travel agencies in Britain are offering refunds to travellers who've booked tickets to Barbados.
I've seen interviewers on Sky Sports asking male gymnasts if they're worried about the zika virus in Brazil!
The level of ignorance in Britain about the zika virus is astounding...they're even making comparisons to Ebola!
In reply to mikesiva
Zika could be sexually transmitted.

I'm not convinced by that yet....
The mosquito could've bitten one partner, and then bitten the other. Americans seem to be in denial that mosquitoes exist in Texas....

Dear Dr. Shit AKA Pondie,
Please note that there is enough literature around for anyone with a modicum of interest in the epidemiology of ZIKV to educate themselves thoroughly and monitor any further developments which may affect adversely global health and well being.
It is not as if one needs to have a basic school education to learn about the disease...the WHO website and its Twitter account are loaded with straightforward critical information that even Shiv Chanderpaul will understand it.
However, in spite of all the information which is at your disposal, I avail myself to teaching any Cesspool Engineer who still needs help urgently in understanding any aspect of the disease.
I am firm of the belief however that in this age of the internet, no one should have any difficulty in accessing information on ZIKV or indeed any other vector borne disease.
With kind regards.
