Johnson and justify it. I am betting that Chase is going to be a more consistent test bat and a better spinner than Samuels. He might not be an attractive a player as Samuels but he is grounded and have quite a mature approach to the game. I am not saying his selection means the dropping of Samuels but he needs to be introduced to test cricket in this home stand.

The selectors cannot leave out Chase and

This is where A team tours would come in. I am with you, he seems very mature, but I would love to give him some overseas experience at this time. The policy of throwing them in at the deep end in the Test arena has not work. Give him some more exposure. Its the same thing that happened to Shai Hope and even Jermaine Blackwood, imho. I am talking about Chase and not Johnson, who has had Test experience.

Blackwood is a different case altogether. Things came so easy to Blackwood at the beginning of his test career that he underestimated the challenge of the game. Blackwood went to Sri Lanka where he was aware of his weakness of punching off the back foot with a crooked bat. He disciplined himself and avoided the shot in his 2nd innings. He got a 90th I think. And then he got another good score. From there he lost the plot and played an irresponsible knock to follow. Since then he have been spiraling downwards. Blackwood needs a good mentor.

I think Chase has done everything they asked of him. If you don't have A team experience; well then the next best thing you can do is play in the Barbados set up. The environment is competitive where you can easily lose your spot on the team. There is always experienced players around the team and the expectations are high. I don't think lack of A team tours will hurt Chase.
Chase for Samuels
Johnson for Blackwood
Laybah Laybah come see yah

The BEST AVG of the young brigade on a Dungheap basis!
Chase is Samuels replacement! Had enough of this impostor MS!
There are more good performers this time than the previous seasons. All the guys need some exposure. I would love to see 2 teams selected from the best performers and Wi players to play a 3 match series to further highlight their claim and more exposure.
Talent emerging out of this season should be give as much exposure as possible so that they can be ready to represent WI in the ODI and test teams
Johnson should open with Kraig again.
1) Kraig
2) Johnson
Why did they put him @ #3 after that match?

Chase averages 42 in first class cricket and Johnson averages 35 in first class cricket and 39 in test cricket
Who is this Chase ?
Listening to one of the selector on Tuesday night, Powell and Barath absent created a vacancy for the opening slot, that is why Johnson, Hope and Chandrika were tried.
The guy he spoke about is Theophile who he said did well last regional, but is not doing so well this year.
He stated, they look for consistency from year to year, before making selection.
BTW, this good spoke about players thru-out the region that he has seen from the U-13 level to the regional level, he part of the WICB selection panel at every level, including the Women.

interesting because Theophile is among the worst opening bats in the region. Poor technique, poor shot selection and is now being exposed. Theophile will do a lot better adapting his game to a number 6 and concentrating on the shorter versions. This is my opinion. I wish the young man prove me wrong or take the advice.

that is a good question because he can be easily lost in the shuffle. Last year I thought Chase was good enough to play just as a middle order bat. This year he has also turned in some impressive numbers with the ball. He is not one of Barbados most hyped players but he is actually there most consistent player. He shares this distinction with Kraigg and both also possess the highest first class averages in all players in contention for selection.

Before we turn to Chase who might give another Shai Hope-type Test performance, we should recall Deonarine, middle order batsman with proven offspin, then there is Kieron Powell who could easily convert into a middle order batsman, assuming Leon Johnson is recall to fill the vacant opening position. Chase, Hope and Chandika should first prove themselves as members of an A-team before selection to test team, Hope and Chandrika proved that dominating regional cricket is no guarantee that a player will step up and perform at test level. However Dowrich I think is ready for test.
Leon and Kieron should be in the test team
In reply to Cornfused
I totally agree with you but our selectors tend to make the most asinine decisions.
In reply to methodic
Opening is a specialist position, Hope should had been selected to open.
I will not be surprise if they look at Theophile, Chandrika or go back to Johnson to fill the gap, while looking at Lewis performance next year.
The batting slot that is up for grab is the opening position, Samuels and Blackwood will be selected
In reply to openning
I am not convinced Lewis is ready for test. I think he is a naturally attacking player that should first be introduced to ODI. From ODI experience then he will grow to adapt his game for test. You might be right at least for the first test.
In reply to methodic
Lewis need at lease another year to test his strength.
BTW. I meant Hope should never had been selected to open, a number of poster get excited about players after a couple of good innings, I've seen too many great or good players, to be aware of the quality that is needed to go forward.
Guys like Deonarine, Ryan Hinds and Devon Smith were not prepared to work day and night, to be the best International player they could be.
An example is told by Sir Everton, on Seymoure Nurse batting seven stright days morning to night, resulting in 233 runs against Australia
In reply to openning
I think you can add a couple more names to that list

Any conversation about selecting players has to be accompanied by who will get left out in their place.
Kraigg
Hope/Chandrika
Bravo
Samuels
Blackwood
Have been the top 5 for the last two tours.
Which 2 will go to make room for your two?
In reply to methodic
You never get tired eh.
The more you promote half ripe players as the next best slice bread and they fail you just jump to the next one.
ah what a people we be eh.
In reply to Tagwa1
I getting like Cozier, name the players I promote on this board. Let me help you. I promoted Blackwood till it was annoying because he deserved his selection. I promote Dowrich because he can be a very good test bat. I am now promoting Johnson and Chase because they have the abilities to be good test players and their regional performances justifies their selections. I am not promoting, I am stating that Carty is going to be a world class batsman.
Last year I called for Hope's selection because he scored the most runs in regional cricket. (if I am correct) Asking him to work on certain areas of his game before his recall is not a death sentence or a failure by the selectors.
Ramdin and Samuels should not be anchors on West Indies team. Despite their talents their records are too meager. Despite what the conservatives say, 99% of our good players are picked very early.
Players like Charles, Carter, Fletcher, Edwards, Deonarine Fudadin, Mcarthy and such have to score 750 to 800 runs in a season for me to select them. This is what Gayle and Hooper did after they were dropped. Experienced players have to demonstrate they are ready now for test.
Young guns like Blackwood, Dowrich, Carty and Hetmyer possess abilities that coaches cannot teach. They need to be properly managed and exposed to top cricket. If Hope is not in the 11 that does not mean he is dropped from the team.

my top 6.
1.Kraigg
2.Hope
3.Bravo
4.Johnson
5.Chase
6.Blackwood
Barbados have severely damaged Dowrich chances of playing as a bat by demoting him to 6 and 7. It will be unfair to bat him now at 3 after he had no games in the top 4 over the last year. He debuted at 3, so evidently it was obvious to somebody that he is a top bat.
