Love dat too - seriously I love Shadow - di man deep deep - directions is anywhere in di Caribbean.
Still love his music. Wish him well.
get well soon Shadow
His later or more recent offerings were great but it is his music from the 1970s and 1980s that really rocked me and touched me as an artiste.
Yes Poverty is Hell, Dingolay,Columbus Lie are all fantastic...but it is this almost forgotten one arranged by the Late Art De Couteau that remains my favorite.

Something we have in common. That's my all time favorite Shadow song. And he has a tremendous body of work

That's the thing - a tremendous body of work - an unbelievable talent.

Agreed. The 70s and 80s were the golden decades for calypso. Really sad that it has almost disappeared - replaced by soca. Thank God for youtube.
For the older heads in here who seem to be fearful as to the future of Calypso. Well take a listen to this..This young lady is this year Junior Calypso Winner.. so this is the future. Take a listen

"My Belief" is a classic and when I saw this thread it was the first Shadow song I looked for on you tube. "Ah come out to play" and "Bassman" also have a special place in my heart. The very first calypso show I went to was the year those two songs came out. i think it was 74. My mother and aunt took me my two brothers and three cousins to de Stadium for this great show. All Trini performers. Lord Squibby left a great memory with his performance of Iron Man. Shadow was sweet with his two classic songs and Kitch close down de show with "twenty to One" and "Bump." Over forty years later I can still see and hear that night

I would love to be there in 1974 when he first made finals with that road searing combination Bassman/I come out to play that had the crowd and the whole of Trinidad in an uproar only to be beaten by Sparrow for the crown with We Pass that Stage/Miss Mary

I here you. There was a time when you would have 20 to 30 really outstanding tunes every year. Not just from TNT but from all the islands - Beckett, Gabby, Swallow, Short Shirt. It was just a super abundance of rich music. I am really glad I was around and old enough to enjoy this never to be repeated period.

-Is it a disappearance of a period or more the fact that the new young generation would not appreciate these offerings if bought today?
Young ppl want songs stimulating skin on skin action and songs advocating drinking rum and there is still vestiges of the wave, rag era.
Would young ppl appreciate the melody/music of Toe Jam....I say no!
Another one of my Shadow hidden favorites...would young ppl appreciate this message today?...no way!
Watch how easy I can end this young vs old talk.
In the 70's and 80's the older generation at that time said the new generation Calypso did not compare and was not good enough as the first pioneers of Calypso in the 40's and 50's. Your father did not like your music generation as much you did, your child will follow suit and his child will follow suit.
I think that all age groups will agree that calypso peaked in the 70s , and started declining in the 90s. So I don't think it's a young verses old thing. The removal of brass, I.e trumpets , horns and saxophones from eh music has in my view accelerated the decline of the music. Was just listening to Margie by Kitchener and really appreciate the richness of the music and the clarity of all the musical instruments. Sadly drum and base take over now.

This is this year 2016 music and the brass is still alive. See this tune from this year
You have to get acquainted with the new music man..
