I struggle to see why professional sportsman 'fly' out of their contracts to see a baby born.In the modern era why?

I figure its more so for the support of the mother and to have the experience themself rather than for the childs's benefit.
Although i now wonder, as I wasn't there for the birth of my daughter, she's a teen now and occassionally asks me about her birth, like how i felt, and what did she look like, and have to keep reminding her I wasn't there.
Not sure how she feels about that...
In reply to camos
Imagine Bob Marley on tour and he cancelled the date when he hits your town to go back to jamaica to look at one of his kids being born.
In reply to Raggs
would you take time off to attend a love one funeral?

Second child- delivered myself cos the hospital sent the mother home saying that the baby wasn't due.And it felt like coming out in the middle of the night in our bed.
third child he was born at the hospital without me being there and I went to collect the mother and child.
My closest bond is with the one who I wasn't at his birth.
In reply to Raggs
always wondered about that? and why men want to be in the delivery room to see the baby actually coming out? i mean, what is with that? and you know what, most men collapse on seeing the baby and what accompanies it coming out or the expanse the baby induced in coming into this world.

You don't believe the woman he loves and who loves him, wants him there for the birth of their first child?
Cos sometimes thats all it comes down to, what a woman wants, logic is never their strong point.
So it aint got to make any sense..she just feel like..
'Blush Gayle' does not resonate in my mind.. Sounds corny. Hope she is not made fun of at school. Do parents think about the names they assign to their children?
In reply to Raggs
ragga, it tough leaving mom and the kids behind mate.
In reply to DIEHARD
Gayle out there earning for their child. If he is in Ja at the time so yeah summon him if ya need him physically there. But i still see the whole thing as medieval.
If he was playing for my franchise and I was paying him and he was vital to my team winning or losing I would try to twist his arm to stay put.

1. To support your baby mother especially if it is her first.
2. To hold your child for the first time.
3. To give your child a name (officially).
4. To comfort in case of complications.
If someone is not there for the birth then he is not there but if you can be there then why not be there? How much of Gayle's net worth did he lose by going to be there? Probably less than the "Don't Blush, Baby" comment.

Preaching to the choir here Raggs, I missed my daughter's birth cos i was away studying and working to provide.
But..Gayle can afford to make that trip, nick2020 said it better than me above..support the woman, no doubt thats what she wanted.

nothing beats being there to see the birth of your child...
after all..you put it in..be the first to see it out.

Congratulations to the parents and a hearty welcome to baby Blush!

Womens still die during childbirth. For some the experience can be likened to major surgery. A husband should be there to support the wife, if she desires, after all that body trauma.
In 2009, gayle flew back to jamaica on the eve of the first test match in OZ to be with his ailing mum
Now he leaves IPL to be present at the birth of his child
Someone who clearly loves his family and has the means to literally be there for them at major moments. I really don't see anything wrong with it. Matter of fact.....plenty right IMO
Family first. Respect to the man.
There's no way I would voluntarily NOT be there for the birth of my child. Congrats CHG.
In reply to Commie
By all indications.
Gayle like most celebrities in modern times seems to have an exaggerated public persona... His "brand".
But even Tino Best has confessed he's a decent guy.
By all indications, puts family first

He could've watched it all on Skype.
Could've led to his appointment as Skype Ambassador in this virtual-age.

Nah man iz a very humbling experience in the delivery room. You appreciate your mother and your wife/partner so much more after the experience. I took time off work to be there for my two. And I applaud the example being set by cricketers around the world who takes the time off to be there.
Congrats to the new parents. May their child forever be a source of happiness and joy
