Trinidadians insatiable appetite for American junk food and other imported food items from my adopted country is well know. Heck being classified as the "world's numberone Kentucky Fried Chicken eaters" is even a badge of honor for many Trinis.
Well it so turns out, that imported chicken to Trinidad from the USA is classified as "not fit for human consumption" and sold as pet food to Americans, is being gobbled up in Trinidad by humans.

Trinis Eating American Dog Food???
In reply to Emir
Bravo coming for your rass shortly!
In reply to NineMiles
Nah, he busy eating Fried chicken
oh boy!
bow wow!
In reply to Emir
As far as I can recall no one has ever accused the Titties of being human...why do you think they call themselves Trini to the bone? That right there is a dead giveaway...
The only thing upsetting about this is that they thought it necessary to import waste all the way from America when they could have gotten left over scraps from their formerly favorite trading partner Jamaica...
In reply to FanAttick
Is tbis humour? Should i laugh?
I guess its true that the weather is predictable.
In reply to johndom90
According to PETA it is not advisable to laugh while chomping down on a mouthful of imported dog food unless your owner is skilled in administering the Heimlich maneuver
In reply to Emir
Very sad and terrible to think that an oil rich nation, natural gas etc is importing food unfit for human consumption..
In reply to Emir
I could understand Bravo s urge to cuss you upside down. The article ssys...a possibility...not a fact. Yet you project it as a foregone conclusion. One immediate result of your posting is the snide postings made in response. If this is a fact then those responsible for importing the item should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
In reply to FanAttick
You are a pathethic piece of work.
In reply to Emir
The 180 day limit, is a precautionary measure, used by companies to protect themselves from something going wrong, it is not to say that chicken cannot go past 180 days.
The candy bar you buy in the stores, have dates that they are to be removed from stores, it does not mean the product is not edible.
I suspect, the chicken sold in Trinidad past the 180 day period, have more to do with shipping.
In reply to Emir
Wow! I echo the sentiments of other posters. This is sad.
In reply to johndom90
Time for you to put some bite in your bark...
In reply to johndom90
The reason why they say real possibility is that you could also be getting chicken less than 180 days old. It is not saying old chicken is may not be coming in.
In reply to JohnDoe
Let us be honest here many of you guys have eaten meat dat 30 years old. And yuh bellyaching fuh half a year old meat?
In reply to black
No, it is up to 5 years old. The point is this- why sell food that is not fit for human consumption in USA but to Trinidadians?
BTW, expired candies are removed from the shelves in the USA. Only as fool will buy packaged food pass the sell date.
In reply to johndom90
Read the Newsday article it goes deeper. Don't support the importers of this madness by trying to rationalize their reason.

In reply to JohnDoe
Get pass the harmless humor of a few posting and I agree with you this is sad.
Hard working Trinidadians pay top dollars for their food and to think they are getting reject food from the USA is rotten indeed.
I wonder if the few posters in here will buy chicken that was frozen for 2 years still buy it if they knew?
In reply to Emir
They are removed as a precaution, it doesn't mean the product cannot be eaten. Most, manufacturer sell bread, twinkies, donuts, etc, at trift stores, (discounted prices) after removing them from store shelves. The rest is sold to live stock producers.
In reply to Emir
Is it a regular occurrence? I am thinking, it was sent at the last minute to replace depleted stocks and expired during shipping.
In reply to black
No sir, it has been going on for years.
My fellow Trinidadians back home don't deserve this.
In reply to johndom90
Real cnuts here bro...doh worry...
In reply to buds
What oil and gas have to do with that? It's fukin chicken that may or may not be best before..
Most trinis buy local chicken.
US chicken is unnatural and disgusting..and only comes in leg and thigh locally...smells good tastes like chicken but big and weird and doh like to tun brown..local manufacturers dominate this market by a huge margin,we have much better chicken locally..the imported chicken represent a very very small % of chicken consumed..maybe one dealer importing it..
In reply to Emir
You lying cunt is only recent they were allowed to import chicken..this hasn't been going on for years and years lying mudda cunt..and it's only specualtion, ask Uncle Sam why he fuking senin ole chicken den! He mudda kunt...
It is estimated that 40% of all chicken in Trinidad is imported from the USA and that market share is growing- 40 % is significant.
I am happy the authorities are looking into this. The local poultry market is under attack and it needs to be protected from this unfair trade.
BTW, 70% of KFC chicken is from the USA. I would like the minister to examine KFC imports.
In reply to Emir
KFC CHICKEN IS FUCKIN LOCAL ARAWAK ONLY YOU LYING CYATT!! So much so people always complain about small pieces,US CHICKEN HUGE!! MOST TRINIS HATE THE IMPORTED US CHICKEN ASSHOLE.
Only bbq fund raisers and cheap low level caterers buy that chicken!
AND IS ONLY LEG AND THIGH ASSHOLE!!
In reply to Emir
YOU FUCKING LIAR AGAIN ALL KFC IS LOCAL HALAL CHICKEN !!
YOU PULL FIGURES OUT OF YOUR PUSSY.
People hardly buy imported chicken here,it is dog cheap and for that reason business people buy it for events etc.
Caribbean market for U.S. poultry meat, with $29.3 million in U.S. exports in 2012. The tariff headings listed
above represent the lions share of U.S. poultry meat exports to TT (86 percent), meaning the prices of most
imported U.S. (and other origin) poultry products in TT are likely to see an increase as a result of this new
Link Text
This is significant- since the stats for the Caribbean inlcude large countries not geographically in the Caribbean such as Mexico, followed by Dominican Republic etc.
Since 2012, chicken imports have been increasing. It is estimated that 40% of all chicken eaten in Trinidad is imported.
In reply to Emir
5th largest!! 29.3 million and that include turkey,Cornish rock hens and processed poultry products.
Thank you very much !!!
About 3 years ago, KFC stopped advertising "Halal" b/c the majority of their chicken could not be examined or inspected for Halal certify since the meat was imported from the USA.
In reply to Emir
Never KFC only uses Arawak, you lying...and it's because of this KFC T&T is known to be different for the better.
it's very simple you know, ask Trinis right here what kinda chicken they buy and we can have a sample of the wider market..
I have a family,we cook almost everyday,we also buy the odd kfc and no foreign chicken is involved...of course we tried it,but we never bought after that...it's ugly and huge..
Any Trinidadian can go KFC right now, in most of their stores- you will no longer see the Halal sign.
They may still be buying from Arawak for a small portion of their supply for certain areas.
In reply to Emir
Little boy KFC buys exclusively Arawak...
In reply to bravos
For local Trinidad poultry purchase- KFC buy exclusively from Arawak- true, BUT, not all their poultry is purchase from Trinidad.
Got it?
You have to be smart to understand how they word things.
KFC is an American franchise, they make money by selling the chicken, fries, cooking oil etc from the USA- from their corporate affiliate.
In reply to Emir
Brother you are wrong on much more, much much more...and I am sick and fucking tired of it.
So much so I'm willing to donate the cash equivalent of 100 case ah ole US chicken to cc.com to have you banned..work out the figure for me...
In reply to Emir
Stunning revelations!
In reply to Emir
What an idiot you are, they sell 'secret recipe', marketing tools ,a working proven business model etc, not US chicken!!
That's why a fiend like you could never be the voice of T&T,KFC along with many other franchises have customized their offerings to suit Trini taste!! Even Mc'Donalds TGI etc are forced to serve Matouk ketchup too because heinz too sour for Trini taste..and what about KFC patented pepper sauce!! Where else you ever hear bout dat!?? Go McDonald's in the US and ask for Matouk ketchup nah!
Man you so out of the loop eh,your brain seems over frozen just like your dinner..
And Mexico not in the Caribbean idiot..also KFC Independence Square alone consumes more than 29 million in chicken a year!!! GTFO!
In reply to JohnDoe
What like how he havta admit KFC T&T uses T&T chicken?
In reply to bravos
Read again what I wrote.
Son, like you eating too much fried chicken that was frozen for too long or what.
In reply to Emir
Only fresh hormone free Trini Arawak for me..
Like de hormones fattening yuh brain too?
You should eat the other white meat more..it's much better..
In reply to Emir
Emir, you must've gotten something wrong somewhere.
The chicken imported from the USA is not for local consumption, but turned around as exports to poor(er) Caribbean neighbors, with Jamaica being the main beneficiary. This is done as a gesture of goodwill.
In reply to Emir
Yuh in retreat
Sorry but having spent time in the industry, I have to tell you that Bravos on the mark here- KFC chicken is Arawak chicken
Having said that Arawak has the poorest standards in the country. Meat inspectors in Arawak used to ask their colleagues who going down Nutrimix to pick up some chicken for them
EMIR: YOU ARE VERY WRONG HERE.
KFC chicken in (Barbados AND) Trinidad is 100% local raised.
Having said that, you are absolutely correct that VERY POOR grade chicken is imported into ALL CARIBBEAN MARKETS and sold in supermarkets.
Side note: Avoid it all!!!!!
In reply to pelon
All what? Imported chicken, all chicken or all meat?
In reply to sudden
Could you put your query in context? Or at least "decompile" it for comprehension.
And BTW: Don't forget I am in your area next week. You recall the item list.
In reply to pelon
Why are you trying to send the man into a coma.
In reply to granite
Avoid it all, you stated emphatically. Avoid what, exactly.
BTW Powen visiting around that time. I can't possibly entertain you both. My apologies
In reply to Drapsey
In reply to sudden
A. Avoid the greasy foods man, wot wrong with that brain today?
In reply to pelon
Haha. You and dat Fuzzy too like to out people. How is he doing anyway?
In reply to bravos
Pops going mad oui.
The BBC carried out an investigation a few years ago,and it was all about chicken, and the way it was farmed slaughtered and kept.It was found that many farms did not stick to Health and Safety regulations. The chicken went to many popular fast food resturants and small butchers. This is the UK and if,with all the health measures in store you can still be fooled...I hope allyuh understand. Some years ago Trinidad sued a big oil company in the USA and won, they were paid millions in compensation, could TT take legal action again, yuh never know.Having seen this happen in TT,ah wonder what the other islanders eating, allyuh better check, could be dog and cat.
Yuk!!!
In reply to buds
Buds, this is nothing new. Happens in Jamaica and other Caribbean islands also and not only with imported food.
What is happening here is that someone had the guts to put it in print.
Defective and sub-par medical equipment and worthless and harmful prescription drugs declared unfit for the North American market are routinely sent to the Caribbean and parts of Africa as a measure of goodwill.
