Regional U19 Tournament Updates
Well done Jen..... Let's hop some high quality cricketers emerge from this tournament ! 👍
In reply to jen
And you have got the squads listed !....I'm not sure how close to the action you will be ( if at all) but it would be really nice and informative to have reports, comments, opinions etc......obviously on promising players ... Anyway well done again !
In reply to jen
Well done but perhaps you should get Admin to sticky dis cause it may get lost in de flow
Jen has done an AMAZING job guys. This man needs to work for the WICB
Some of the players that I will be following ;
Barbados
Chemar Holder ...U19 WC winner
Dominic Drakes....left arm quickie
Shemar Springer....U19 WC winner
Shian Braithwaite...opening bat
Guyana
Keening Paul.....U19 WC winner
Ronaldo Alimohamed
Sherfane Rutherford
The latter two are pace bowling all rounders, both said to have some pace.
Jam
Miguel Smith.... Pace bowler
Windward Islands
Emmanuel Stewart....batsman
Ryan John ....U19 WC winner
Any others anyone suggest ?
Jus a minor observation. De green font for the players' names is a little hard on the eyes
In reply to jen
Thanks Jen much appreciated.
What software you using?
In reply to Maispwi
Ok noted. Will try a more solid color later. Thanks for the feedback.
In reply to positiveg
Ah hope is yo phone auto correct to Jennifer lol.
A plugin I built myself. WordPress platform.
In reply to jen
You welcome. You are providing a much needed service. Ah still doh know who won de U17 competition
The U17 coverage was woeful.
In reply to Maispwi
lol, I think Trinidad won it. Windwards got 2nd and GUyana 3rd I think.
In reply to Maispwi
Have changed the colour to a more solid color. Tell me what you think now?
In reply to robbo
Kassim Peltier - fast bowler
In reply to Commie
Commie ..I read somewhere recently that there were some real concerns about bowlers actions from the Islands region (Windwards)....apparently there were really obvious chuckers at trial games for the U17 and U19 tournaments...they were still picked !.... Does this chime with you ?
In reply to Commie
BTW....how your boy doing in England... The left arm quickie (is his name Joshua Challenger) ?..hope he's doing ok !
In reply to robbo
You are correct. A couple of them are dodgy and its because they come through sometimes straight from village cricket to national teams.
Joshua is still here. He had a setback but is still going. He is being looked after.
Saw a bit of Jamaica practicing. See they got a leggie extracting a lot of bounce. Fast bowlers ain't look that fast but can't tell from practice, can't tell whether they taking it easy or going full throttle.
Can safely say one d fast bowler action dodgy. Dont know the name.
In reply to jen
good job mate.
In reply to jen
The website main page looks great!
Thanks for keeping us updated about the Under-19 tournament.
In reply to jen
Kudos man.... shame the WICB
In reply to jen
Sorry. Yea phone auto correct.
Oh own plug in very nice bro
In reply to jen
The new font works for me. Doh forget to get Admin to sticky dis.
In reply to jen
Nice job King! Respect
In reply to jen
Great work Jen!
Looking out for Ross Powell (opener/some relation to Kieran), Jerrickson Louis( Jermiah's Louis' younger bro/ allrounder), Jaeel Clark( wkpr). Those are the ones I know of.
In reply to Commie
Is he from TT,there's also a national footballer with that surname.
Today is the start day, there was some early morning rain around two of the main venue but its been off for a while so play should be on time.
Don't forget the link HERE
The front page will display all 3 games live score overview with a link to their respective scorecards for full details. As the tournament goes by, if you want to see an individual player stats, just click on his team and all the team players stats will be displayed. The stats menu page will only show at most the top 10 leaders for the tournament so for individual stats check the team page.
Lastly, it would be great if others can pm admin/arawak to sticky this thread. more voices the better. gonna pm them now.
In reply to jen
Dere is a parse error problem wid de link
Folks, i'm running some updates, bare with me please
In reply to jen
Padna your link dead.
In reply to Commie
ah on the road and net slow, just 34 files left to upload via ftp.
In reply to jen
Appreciate what you are doing bro. I'm patient with you!!
Just a quick suggestion; could you through the WICB or your cricket board ask your internet provider to increase your speed?
Have them pay for it or sponsor it.
In reply to kern
i'm not at the ground, net at the ground is fine, was at a meeting away.
making some progress guys, playing xi is up. Had an important meeting that i couldn't miss. Going to head back home now. things will be running smooth by after lunch, promise.
Check the fixtures page guys and click view scorecard. Two games functioning now. The lives scores on the front page go functional later in the day
In reply to jen... nice.
In reply to jen
good work
Trinidad vs Barbados game up to date and so is windwards vs leewards. I'm heading up to the jamaica vs guyana game. After tea will be smooth sailing for that game. Scorer up there having some issue. Going to sort it it.
Oh, and the real time stats are up. Once the scorecard is updated, so is the stats.
In reply to jen
Excellent work bro....
Guys, now at Jamaica vs guyana game, the net is extremely slow up here today which is why the updates are not going throw. Page taking forever to relay the update that it getting times out
It have a Guyanese opener name Ronaldo Renee. That youth bad no boomboclaat. Audicious.
Jamaica all out for 143, royal 53. Guyana about 100-4. Renee 55. Guyana firing bat. Them looking to beat that score tonight
In reply to jen
Suggestions
1 - Your url link (here) to your site is quite small and gets lost on the page. Perhaps capitalize the HERE, or make the url link more visible?
2 - See if admin/wackie can not only sticky the thread, but also post the url link in their "Domestic Scores" page to the top right of the main Rum Shop screen. That way users don't necessarily have to go to the thread to see scores....but more use the thread for comments on matches etc.
Keep up the good work. It must not be easy having to work with unreliable internet and running around doing your personal business as well.
Respeck
In reply to jen
Renee was the leading run scorer in the last U19 tournament here in Guyana.. Classy right hander.. de youth love to use his feet to the spinners.. Joshua Persaud, Yadram and Perez classy too...
Ah lot of people saying Joshua is one to look at.. think he was the best keeper in the regional U17 this year..
de allrounders Keemo, Rutherford and Ali are the big hitters if they get in is licks for dem bowlers..
In reply to anthonyp
Guyana made a huge collapse, will post the full scorecard later once I get it in my inbox. Bundled out for 122.
Renee got out stumped lol, aint that ironic but was a classy innings.
In reply to imusic
Thanks musicman, appreciate all feedback!!
EDIT: website got over 200 hits today, hoping that can reach up to 500+ daily later in the tournament. Going try fix all glitches tomorrow.
In reply to kern
For once WICB can't get blame. Turns out flow internet was acting up. The speed was more than sufficent which was paid for by WICB, plus its a locked wifi with only the scorers having access to it. Same speed is up at the other grounds. So is something on flow end at this particular venue. Hope for better luck tomorrow.
In reply to jen
Renee always running down the track.. Guyana got a dead weight for captain de only reason he's in the side is because he captained the side that won last year..
from 100-4 to 122 all out.. damn that's bad!
Ah see young Kallicharan made the first ton.. hopefully he gets more..
Ok folks, all games fully up to date. Just got guyana vs jamaica scorecard and have uploaded it.
Get everything HERE
Remember, the stats page show the top 10 leading batsmen and bowlers in terms of runs and wickets, along with the tournament's best partnership for each wickets. If you want to see players individual stats (who isn't in the top 10), check their team page.
Got 340 visitors today, not bad for day 1. Share with as much as your friends as possible. We going full speed ahead tomorrow too.
In reply to jen
Looks good, jen! A lot of work ... I know. Let me know if I can help with anything.
Oh lort admin/wackie, what ah gwarn, the thread unsticky.
Guess musicman idea of putting the games in the domestic scores section with the link to the website would do.
I think there is a video stream of Trinidad vs Barbados game, so you folks can check around on WICB site or Ustream to see if its available.
Everything should flow smooothly with Guyana vs Jamaica game today. Using me phone hotspot. Game about to get on the way.
Jamaica vs guyana look like it gonna finish today. Both teams batting poorly. Royal looks a good all rounder for Jamaica. Batting well. Left arm spinner Adams for guyana getting the ball to spin.
In reply to jen
the minutes batted for Boodram seems to be incorrect

Jen... Are you going to a game today ?
Leewards chasing 162 for victory vs Windwards are 77/0.
LIU19's InnsRBFM4s6sSR
Tyrone Williams 36 not out
Ross Powell 40not out
Extras(B 1)
Total77 (4.53 RPO)
In reply to voiceofreason
VOR..... Kian Pemberton.... Opening bowler ( presuming a pace bowler) took 7 very cheap wickets in the match... Know anything about him ?
In reply to robbo
Know nothing about him. His last name suggests he has St. Kitts/ Nevis roots so probably brownskin or positiveg might know of him.
In reply to voiceofreason... Go Lwrds!
Now 126/3
R. Powell 61*
In reply to robbo
naw, am home currently, got an important task to complete, work related. Will be at Jamaica vs Barbados game on sunday.
Thankfully, I can keep track of all the games due to my own toilings.
Lastly, anyone no much of Javelle Glenn from Jamaica? I see that youth rip some leg breaks yesterday wow. Man big and strong. Was bowling them fast and biting with nuff bounce. Very tall kid too. See he's bowling chest on, that's something he'll have to work on. Will mention it to him when the tournament ends. He accounted for the big fish in the second innings, Ronaldo Renee who was never looking like he'll get out to anyone else. Was a ripping bouncing leg break, pitched perfectly.
Doesn't seem like he have the googly, will see if I can teach him a few tricks or two before he goes back home
In reply to voiceofreason
Leewards have to be careful of not going in a shell. That's what cost them the first innings. 32 runs for victory, they should play like they did all morning.
I was at the BIM vs T&T game today for a few minutes, pitch looks untroubling. Once Barbados bat well, they should be able to draw it.
Saw Kallicharan bowling his leg breaks. Got some nice float on it but bowling a lot of short balls. He would be best served bowling with a long off than a mid off. It is hard for caribbean leg spinners to reach far because of captain/west indian mentality. You can't get wickets bowling back of a length pre dominantly. Clearly he is afraid to be driven straight back. Javelle Glenn for jamaica yesterday got his wickets by keeping the ball up. Keemo Paul was going guns yesterday but he kept him in check and got his wicket. That youth Keemo Paul strong too, see the man let go a six into the bushes. Crisp hit!
In reply to jen
I'm not sure if are watching the Bds v Trini game but there are some woeful actions on display
BTW .... Have you any update on Ray Jordan at all ?
In reply to robbo
I didn't see the pacers, only spinners were on for the brief time i was there. Jamaica has a bowler with a very suspect action too, Miguel Smith.
Ray is in England, Vasbert Drakes and co have done work with him to remodel his action. Haven't seen him bowl in a while but he's dominating the league he's in up there.
In reply to jen
Thanks Jen... Good to hear.

Leewards win by 6 wickets. Ross Powell 85*.
In reply to voiceofreason
Big come-from-behind win.
congrats guys!!
keep it up!!
In reply to voiceofreason
Congratulations to the Leeward Island Team. Great start to the tournament I do hope they can move on from strength to strength.. Yes, Kian Pemberton is indeed a fast bowler from Nevis. He also represented Leewards in the recent under 17 tournament.
In reply to voiceofreason
Is he K.Powell's brother?
In reply to granite
No....Ross Powell is the son of former Nevis and Leeward Island right arm off break bowler.
The other opener Tyrone Williams Jr. is the son of Tyrone Pacer Williams of Antigua and brother of the late Runako Morton.
Cheers to their 90 run partnership in the second innings.
All in all the team effort is commendable
In reply to brownskin
I'm a little lost here. Perhaps a step dad in play?
In reply to imusic
The post was edited brother was inserted
Full official points table now updated on the WEBSITE
EDIT: Guyana vs Leeward Islands Pitch for Tomorrow's game
Should be some hard toiling for the bowlers in that game. pitch is extremely flat with grass properly rolled in. Won't spin much. Will bounce decent but normal pace bounce, none threatening. I see a century being scored here!
Things looking grim today. All matches delayed due to rain. A tropical wave is affecting the island. But all the scorers at the respective grounds, you'll be kept up to date with any change in match status. Keep checking the site.
In reply to jen
Wait. Whole tournament being played in SVG? Multiple matches occurring simultaneously?
In reply to brownskin
Thanks Brownskin. Ross and Kieran although not brothers must be related I am sure.
What about Kian Pemberton? Any info on him?
In reply to imusic
Yes Bro. You think is only TnT has the capacity to hold these tournaments.
In reply to voiceofreason
The world is getting smaller each day and soon West Indians will have relatives in every island.
In reply to voiceofreason
I just surprised seeing that POINT always talking about there are no grounds outside of the one that hosts major matches in each of the leeward and windward islands.
That is a major excuse he uses to explain why both are so consistently poor in regional competitions
So much for that theory
In reply to imusic
POINTLESS just want to point everything on the board.
Play started ... Streaming LI v Guyana... Kian Pemberton who took a lot of wickets in the 1st round and no one had heard of taken an early wicket... Looks pretty quick... Very eventful first over... Almost got a second wicket and induced a top edged six...stream down now
In reply to imusic
I just surprised seeing that POINT always talking about there are no grounds outside of the one that hosts major matches in each of the leeward and windward islands
Ask Point when last he been to the Caribbean and that would give you a better insight into his input.
St. Kitts/Nevis alone: Warner Park/ Grove Park/ Edgar Gilbert sporting complex/ St. pauls/ Conaree. They played several warm-up matches during the World Cup at these grounds. Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, all have multiple grounds where cricket has been played. I actually believe they would get bigger crowds if cricket was played in some of these smaller grounds.
In reply to imusic
lol, yes man. Have 5 decent size cricket grounds here.
In reply to jen
You at any game today ?
Wow...Guyana 42 all out...the being taken...I'm presuming the weather conditions have affected the pitch.
In reply to robbo
Wow! What the hell is going on with our batting. Hopefully Leewards put up a better performance.
In reply to robbo
at Jamaica vs Bim game. Bim players looking to apply themselves and bat properly which is good. Had a good 2nd wicket stand.
In reply to voiceofreason
Yeah let's hope so... The wicket has a green strip the whole length of the pitch ahoy stump width... From one end in particular seems to be generating bounce... Even so... 42 all out !
In reply to voiceofreason
From what i saw of Guyana in the first game, they firing they bat after everything. The pitch at their game is excellent, matter of fact, the best of the 3. I saw it yesterday. Pitch flat, well held together, no demons. It would get a bit of bounce, may a little too much by Guyana local standard but tame bounce by professional standards.
In reply to jen
Cheers Jen... All happening at the LI v Guy game... Wickets tumbling
In reply to robbo
Guyana U19 Vs LI U19
Kian Pemberton again among the wickets. Guyana Bowled out for 42
In reply to Pacy
He's pacy as well !.....,(excuse the pun)
In reply to robbo
getting excited when any of the young guys do well. Eager to see some step forward to bigger things. Things looking really bleak and worrisome in tests
In reply to Pacy
Looks like Leewards making a steady reply 22/0. Ross Powell and Tyrone Williams again.
The bim players over here in shock when they heard Guyana all out for 42. They know that aint no score for that kind of wicket.
In reply to Pacy
I'm not watching the test... I have totally lost interest ... It's simply men against boys..., hoping to see some good talent in U19.... 42 all out is appalling... Must say though Pemberton looked hostile and quick... Bowled a lot of short stuff and was hurrying up the batsmen...,quickest bowler on view so far !
In reply to robbo
well i'm excitted to get to see Pemberton. Normally fast bowlers don't bag much in these competition these days but he leading the pack. To get 7 wickets on that dead ground he played his last game pon is a good feat.
Jamaica spin bowlers currently making a mockery of the bim players.
In reply to robbo
That is really lovely to hear. WI desperately needs quick bowlers who can be quick and nasty.
In reply to voiceofreason
I am excited about the quick VOR. But at 19 more than results and team performances I am looking only for individual stars. I would love to see a couple of 100s this round too
Guyana bowlers all over the place... Loads of wides and no balls... Probably trying too hard !
In reply to robbo
Leewards 153 all out, in reply to Guyana's 42 all out.
Guyana's 2nd iNns 75/5. Keemo Paul fails again for 0. I expect better from him.
In reply to jen
Please check your pm.

Wat happen to Jamaica?
In reply to jen
Dis is painful having to search for dis thread all de time but ah go keep bumping it
In reply to Maispwi
lol, admin/wackie sticky it for a day then throw it away, watch ah time.
In reply to Maispwi
What happen to Jamaica is that spin killing all the teams. It surprising leeward pacers taking wickets.
The scores are too bad and when I think these are our future player I am more concerned about our batting
In reply to jen
How many rounds are they playing in the 3 day competition?
In reply to Maispwi
3 games. 6 one day matches
In reply to Pacy... I'm more concerned with the state of the pitches.
In reply to natty_forever
Can tell you for sure that the game guyana and leewards played on was a delight to bat on. Guyana just accustom to low bounce that decent bounce seem like they were in Australia.
Admittedly, pitches here not conducive to fast bowling, but the pitches not as bad as the scores reflecting. A lot of the guys getting catch around the bat from the spinners. Bad technique.
3rd round underway.....doesn't appear to be a live feed for this round
Little Kallicharan making runs again !
Jen
Was it Javelle Glenn the leg spinner that you were mentioning last round ?... Really gives it a 'rip' ?.... If so he can bat a bit as well... He's just scored a very quick century against the Leewards attack !
Kallicharan falls in the 90's... Shame... Good score nonetheless
Chemar Holder having a lean time in this tournament !
In reply to robbo
Very lean at this moment
Keegan Simmons has had a very disappointing tournament thus far. 56 runs from 3 innings with a top score of 55.
Same for Emmanuel Stewart. 45 runs in 4 innings with a top score of 36. Hope the Commie curse not mashin up dis yute.
In reply to robbo
Yes robbo, it was glenn. He bowls the leggie fast and still gets it to rip. I think that's a talent Jamaica should work on. He hits the ball with power too. He is big, broad shoulders so its no surprise he is ripping the leg breaks. He is bowling a bit front on, which would lead him to bowling short balls and full toss. Will mention it to him before he departs. Don't want to do that now for it to play on his mind when he's bowling.
I know the physics of spin, and trust me, what this kid is bowling, is the physics of beautiful spin bowling (in terms of getting turn). Doing exactly what is needed to get turn.
Jeavor Royal is another impressive youth for Jamaica. Left arm spin, gets the ball to spin as well and can bat down the order.
Saw Kofie James for leewards today, bowls off break, he was getting some bite too. I think the build of west indians are good for spin bowling. Those broad shoulders can generate a lot of power into the ball to rip it.
Felt sorry for the fast bowlers today. Pitch today for Jamaica vs Leewards flat. Fast bowlers were getting hammered. One thing ah love with them youths, it aint seem like pace worrying them one bit.
In reply to imusic
Yep, a lot of the returning players very disappointing. Frew from Jamaica has been disappointing for a windies u19 batsman. Highly disappointed in emmanuel stewart. He's playing youth cricket for a long time now.
Robbo, I think the net was the problem today why there was no streaming. Heard the net wasn't working. The website scorer had to use his phone 4g as a hotspot to update the scores. Flow...
Thanks Jen....yeah I noticed the pace at which the batsmen were scoring at the LI v JAM match.... Figured flat pitch.... Even Pemberton took some stick and he has previously been taking wickets for fun !
Bump
In reply to jen
How are the fixtures decided with 6 teams playing just 3 matches each?
This thread is an outstanding, and very rare, effort to keep us all informed FIRST HAND about the region's most prominent youth competition.
Many thanks, jen and company.
I cannot understand why the thread no longer enjoys sticky status.
In reply to Maispwi
Fixtures was drawn randomly. I should have official points standing tomorrow but from my maths, trinidad should be the winner by probably 0.2 points. Leewards 2nd, Jamaica 3rd, behind leewards by 0.4 points.
In reply to Norm
thanks man!
One dayers starting tomorrow?
In reply to Norm
Many thanks, jen and company.
I cannot understand why the thread no longer enjoys sticky status.
Ditto
Many thanks, jen and company.
I cannot understand why the thread no longer enjoys sticky status
Agreed!
If only we had more passionate people like Jen in charge.
We need to keep bumping de thread or it may disappear
In reply to voiceofreason
Thanks man and all others. Maispwi, yes, one dayers start tomorrow. Guyana maybe the dark horse in this format, as in the 3 day, it seems like they were already in one day mode. Jamaica look to have some dangerous hitters in Glenn, Frew and Royal down the order. Biggest hit i've seen for the tournament so far came from Frew. Amazing how far West indians hit the ball, even the U19's. Seen Keemo Paul launch some monster too.
Keep up the good work Jen.... The Guyana game is being streamed today.
TnT just win one match and leads the tables?
TeamMWLDTNRPtsNRR
Trinidad & Tobago U19 3 10200 37
Leeward Islands U19 3 21000 36.8
Jamaica U19 3 21000 36.4
Barbados U19 3 10200 30.1
Windward Islands U19 3 01200 19.2
Guyana U19 3 0 3000 10.1
Leewards hammered by Barbados already !
How many games will the teams play in the one days
In reply to Maispwi
6 each, site has full fixtures.
Admin, sticky the darn thing!
In reply to jen... there are only 6 teams ... no? Explain 6 games.
... got the answer. there are 7 teams.
In reply to jen
Ah know de fixtures dere but ah have to keep de thread on Page 1
Jam v Windwards being streamed now...46 overs each after delayed start.. The Windwards opening bowlers trying too hard...bumper, Yorker, bumper etc... That bowler bowling towards camera looks pretty quick although he's all over the place.
In reply to robbo
Pitch for today's game is very nice. Ryan John looks a bit quicker than he was in the youth world cup. Another player with a suspect action is currently in the attack, Nedd. Too many iffy actions in this tournament.
In reply to jen
Yeah...John does look a little quicker.. He was 78-82 mph in the WC ...And agree ... Nedds action looks iffy !
It's a shame really.. He looks pacy... Runs in real quick and has a fast ( if 'Iffy') arm.. Just turned 17..... The problem is I can't think of a 'reformed' chucker that has come back and made it. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for Ray Jordan but in truth I'm not that hopeful.
Is Shemar Springer injured.. ??.... Notice that he seems to be playing purely as a batsman for Barbados.
Good win by Windwards.
In reply to robbo
Shamar was in the CPL squad, he is at present on 27off 26 balls, with Barbados U-19 requiring 10 runs from 6 overs.
Game set match, he did not face another ball.
Scorecard
In reply to openning
I notice that he didn't bowl in the Trinidad Innings ?...his bowling in the WC was very useful !
In reply to Commie
Indeed it was, impressed by Matthews innings, was quite fluent, handled the pace with ease. Wicket was very good to bat on, Jamaica made a big blunder. Ryan John was excellent though, made use of the extra pace in the wicket.
Had a little chat with Javelle Glenn from jamaica today. Am impress with this youth, have scored a century in the 3 day version.
He says he plays for melbourne cricket club. He says others don't want to play for them because the team hard to make but you can't think like that, have to work hard if you want to make it. Says he feels good to be able to hit guys like Nikita Miller out the park. One thing you can gather is that he aint fraid to compete for his spot. Really big fella, about 6ft 2 and hits it hard. Admits he throw away an easy opportunity to get a century today, according to him, "ball coming on really nice".
Saw him off drive Ryan John on the roof of arnos vale today, was a magnificent shot. Shades of Gayle. How often does a youth player go big over long off for maximum? Kid has his eyes set on getting into the Tallawah side. Love his ambition. He bats left handed too!
In reply to openning/robbo
jen doan watch Bim matches??? he scouting ressa teams n Bim winning
In reply to che
I'm assinged to the Jamaican team. I spend most of the day making sure the website is properly updated and no bugs to fix. Sometimes I miss quite a bit of the action when technology decide to act up. Them and Jamaica game was extremely low scoring, just spinners taking all the wickets, none to talk about. Holder was bowling with some gas but on a lifeless wicket for pacer. Keeper was standing back a long way.
In reply to jen
Ryan John will make a very good ODI player. Bowls wicket to wicket and is hard to get away.
In reply to jen
I watched Glenn"s inning, was not impressed in the way he batted
Cricket is not Golf or baseball, its about batting, we can talk when he can cover drive, on-drive or Straight drive, we have seen too much of his kind of batting.
BTW, the two fastbowlers from the Windwards are two guys that need our support, I like what I saw.
In reply to Commie
Yes a good comprehensive win !...do u know much about those other 2 pacers ... Taylor and Nedd as mentioned above ?
In reply to robbo
Nedd actually plays for the senior Grenada team now and yes his action seems a bit suspect.
Dont know anything about Taylor. Havent seen him bowl.
In reply to openning
Warner transformed from a hitter/swinger to a wonderful all round player, nothing impossible.
In reply to Commie
John seems to have kicked on a bit since the world cup, like it has inspired him. Bowl some good short ones yesterday. Should get even stronger within the next couple years, he's 18.
Bump
3rd today... Little Kallicharan doing well again !
72 not out at the moment
In reply to robbo
Was at Leewards/Guyana game earlier up, pitch was good for one day cricket. Leewards shoulda get 275 there abouts with the start they had. Seems only leewards top 3 look comfy with the bat.
In reply to jen
Guyana struggling already though... Don't know what's happened to them... They have some good players.
In reply to robbo
Guyana so use to low pitches that a properly bouncing surface will seem like perth in its hayday to them.
In reply to jen
Good point..anyone catch your eye in particular ?
Another good win todayfor Windwards with Emmanuel Stewart and the man of the match Ryan John taking them through.
Windwards vs Barbados
Good win for Leewards with Tyrone Williams top-scoring. Kian Pemeberton MOM with his 4 wickets. Ross Powell needs to step up and carry-on. 104/1 to 222 not good either but the middle order is fragile. Jaeel Clark and Karima Gore need to step up as well.
link
In reply to robbo
Tyrone Williams from Leewards, playing very well. Is the one person most the teams fraid when they coming up against Leewards. Them have him mark as the danger man.
In reply to jen
Thanks Jen... Whilst I appreciate that this is a one day tourney... I hope he's not a 'shot a ball' player that hits it in the air a lot ?.... I'm hoping for some batsmen to emerge that can actually move their feet and score without having to go aerial all the time.... we have enough of those type already
I'm out here at Park Hill at Jamaica vs Bim game and man, Chemar Holder working up some steam. Some nasty bumper flying through. Seems like he getting some balls to leave the right hander too.
Glenn at the crease currently, done hit 2 sixes. Pitch nice, ball skidding on.
In reply to jen
Jen... How does Holders action look ?...I must admit I have some concerns... Looked a bit crooked to me during the U19 WC ...
In reply to robbo
That jerky elbow has always been a concern for me with Holder. Lawsonish.

Yeah... I would be interested to hear from Jen watching him live... Sometimes offers a different perspective .
In reply to robbo
Looks clean to me, I think he has an extended stretch to the crease which delays his action which adds suspicion to it. Have to admit, I myself was questioning it in the world cup until I saw some side on replays. They looked good.
But today boy, watch a hostile spell from Chemar Holder. Good one in the wings to partner Alzhari. Must say I loved their partnership in the youth WC. Would be good to see it in couple years time. Holder was getting balls to leave the right handers too. He actually sent a bouncer way over one the batsman head on these not so bouncy pitch. Man was pedestrian pace first over then second over was full steam ahead. Not as fast as Joseph but at age 18, good pace. Can only get stronger.

It looked dodgy to me on the side view and when Commies say your action is interesting, well enough said. I am hoping that he could be the one to partner Joseph just like Ambie/Walsh and then Cummins first change but I am a bit concerned with his action.

Heard de Guyana U19 captain mother over there cursing the players and coaches.. de guy shouldn't be in the team.. because his old man and Sanasie good they gotta pick him..
Last year Shiv played with U19 in the senior inter county tournament.. during one de 3 day matches Shiv asked him to bat as night watchman.. de man told Shiv he is de captain of Guyana U19 not no night watchman.. When yuh parents and the bandits that run Guyana cricket good you could do what you want..

We should not sit idly by and allow a crocodile to hatch!! I do not subscribe to bowlers flinging at home or abroad - I say stick the fork now!!
In reply to anthonyp
Well, have heard there is a crazy man in the Guyana camp lol. Ah guess that's him.
Also heard persons saying the captain shouldn't be in the team.

Tyrone Williams 83 not out
Kofi James 46 not out

In reply to robbo
your arm can be crooked while bowling. what it cannot be is jerky. so if holder has a bent elbow and keeps it bent throughout his action he is fine. if he jerks as he delivers then he is pelting. i watched him closely during the u19 world cup and he did not appear to jerk his elbow
Leewards 189/2 after 35 Overs:

Good reply by TNT 110/2 after 17.
Keagan Simmons 60*
Kirstan Kallicharan 7*
In reply to navindesigns
Travis Persaud..
Coaches wanted Keemo to be captain but Sanasie had de final say..
In reply to jen
Cant believe Guyana win.. Windwards had to get about 60 off 15 overs and 6 wickets remaining.. bowled out for 200...
decent match for Keemo ... 58 and a 3fer..
In reply to anthonyp
Keemo is a good talent.
TNT chasing 280 are 259/6 after 43. They should win here but then again...
Good win for TNT. Chased down 280 with 4.2 overs to spare. Keagan Simmons 99 off 96 12 x4 and 2x 6.

In reply to anthonyp
Travis right arm is in a cast as we speak, not sure how it got damage, guess is you work obeah pon him lol.
Good win by Trinidad. Tournament still open with that loss by windwards today.
Jamaica made really light work of ICC today. Them Jamaicans had the time of them life with the bat, blows like crazy. Pitch was nice for playing shots.
In reply to jen
Is the ICC a star opponent, how many matches has that team won?
In reply to openning
Boss, you going on like I say is a big win. It was entertaining seeing shots play and they finally make use of a good batting pitch, as it was yesterday when they made a mess and got all out for 130 thereabouts.
In reply to jen
hope its not serious..
Guyana might get ah chance to play a better player now
In reply to jen
Playing shots against the ICC is a given, even your U-15 will look like stars.
Wins for Guyana, Bim and Windwards yesterday. WI blew away the Leewards for 54 !....pacer Jonathan Taylor 3-9 and another couple of wickets for Ryan John.
In reply to robbo
Currently watching Jamaica vs Leewards, Kian Pemberton removes wi u19 Michael Frew, seems like it shaped away a little. Kian has been the most impressive pacer this tournament. I like his bowling rhythm, everything seems to be moving well and maintains good line and length. Seems Kemar Roachish. He's good when keeping it up, easy to pick once he gets short.
Overall gets decent pace off the wicket.
In reply to jen
Yeah..watched him on stream in earlier game..I like the look of him and was impressed !
The Bim v Guyana game being streamed now .. Missed the beginning but been watching last 20 mins or so...the left armer Drakes looks hostile..bowling some pacy bouncers.. Thinks the spinner bowling is Deswin Currency.
In reply to robbo
Drakes is very tall and gets good bounce. Chemar bowls faster than him though. Drakes reminds me of Sulieman Benn, in that when he batting he looks awkward trying to get the bat to touch the ground lol lol. He is good with the bat too so a decent all rounder in the making.
And finally, a team making wonderful use of the fantastic batting conditions at park hill. Trinidad batting impressively against windwards at the moment. 168/2 in 30 overs.
In reply to robbo
Wow! Leewards really got blown away!
Holder bowls with a very pronounced bend in his arm... Question is.. Does he straighten it ?
In reply to voiceofreason
Leewards well on course today, again Tyrone looking good at the crease. 17* at lunch.
Robbo, in regards to holder, some people's arm can't extend very straight. Mines for example can't make a straight layout. Some people hands can go back behind the perpendicular.
In reply to jen
Yeah... I hope that's the case with Holder... I really do.
In reply to robbo
The problem is we shouldn't be hoping. He should be tested early given he is a prospect.
Well done to Emmanuel Stewart. 92 in a win over TT.
In reply to Commie
Yes I agree.... His action worries me and I'm surprised that it hasn't been called into question at this stage.
In reply to Commie
Vex i wasn't there. He has got better as the tournament went on. Scored runs in his last 3 day match, and got 3 half century in the one days so far.
In reply to jen
Like sincce Guyana got rid of Travis they winning
Who is d cappo now? Keemo?
In reply to anthonyp
lol, Ronaldo Alimohammed is the new captain.
So is a Windwards vs Guyana final?
How come dey name a winner after 3 matches in de 3 day and have a final after 6 matches in de 1 dayers?
By the way, excellent job Jen
In reply to Maispwi
Hoping for a windwards win tomorrow. Hope the wicket nice to give windwards the upper hand. Once it slowish, it playing in Guyana hand.
In reply to jen
Guyana got ah set of spinners.. even if its ah decent pitch the Windwards batsmen will struggle..
In reply to anthonyp
Naw, for what I see this tournament, once the pitch good, windwards hard to stop. Trinidad unleash all sort of spin in the last game and got treated badly. That pitch was skidding nice. Guyana got blowed out for 42 early up when the pitch was skidding and bouncing. Hoping is the same tomorrow
In reply to jen
Allyuh just make sure that the pitch set for them Muddies.
In reply to jen
Guyana spinners better.. plus we got rid of the specialist cappo..
They gotta get Stewart early and is worries for Windwards
Btw de pitch y'all got that beatdung on de other day wasn't good?
In reply to voiceofreason
First thing ah doing in the morning is inspect the pitch. I'll come online and give the good/bad news.
In reply to anthonyp
Yes, good for the muddies lol. Windwards can't allow Guyana to get anywhere pass 200 if Guyana bat first. GUyana will defend any sizeable total. Guys like Akenie Adams bowling extremely accurate. Only thing can nullify he have to be a pitch that coming on beautifully so yo can swing through the line.
Guyana win the toss and gonna bowl first.
Pitch looks flat and worn (obvious from all the matches played). I think its a bat first pitch, which when the sun beats out on it, will slow up and spin. As it looks at the moment, will come on initially. There is a lil sheen on the surface but as i said, surface looks worn so will be interesting to see how it plays.
Guyana clearly don't want to face windwards pace on a fresh track, windwards will be glad they don't have to face Guyana spin later in the day.
Well, interesting first over, plenty short balls, ball bouncing not at a quick pace. Bounce is even which is good. First over a drop catch, then next ball caught in slip.
In reply to jen
Jen, is there any radio commentary?
In reply to jen
57-4
Stewart gone.. things aint looking too good for yall at the moment
In reply to jen
59-5 now ...Chinkoo got ah 3fer so far.. Travis was keeping him out the XI
In reply to anthonyp
You stop posting?
106/6 after 35. A mini fight back.
In reply to voiceofreason
142 all out.. Guyana gonna struggle to make that... unless Keemo make some runs
33/1 in 9 Overs
In reply to anthonyp
38/2 after 9.
Guyana won by 5 wickets!
Congrats to Guyana.... Well played
Victory for Guyana.. de injury to the specialist cappo was a blessing.. since then Guyana turned it around..
Ah think Yadram is about 16.. he's probably one of Guyana leading run scorers in the tournament.. well played youngster at least yuh bat your team to victory!
Congrats to Guyana and kudos to Jen
Well my pitch assessment was superb. I'm surprised windwards played 4 seamers in this game. They picked their team more on the mentality that Guyana weak against pace but failed to read that the pitch was extremely flat and would offer no extreme bounce. Their was some initial pace as i said as the surface had a lil sheen but it was worn and would only get easier as the ball softens. Pitch didn't have much grass so turn was inevitable. I'm really amazed at teams sometimes. I'm just 26 and see all these things and coaches around for so long and make these errors.
Windwards needed the extra batsman.
Congrats to Guyana, always a hard team to beat, especially in a finals. Guyana spin has been very tidy and spot on this 50 overs tournament. Keemo Paul and Shane Rutherford has been bowling impressively as seamers. These guys bowl some serious yorkers. Keemo has some good pace too.
From what i've seen of this tournament, windies can play and win another youth world cup.
Tyrone Williams, Keegan Simmons, Joshau Da Silva, Sherfane Rutherford (openers)
Emmanuel Stewart (this youth the real deal), Kirstan Kallicharan, Shemar Springer (middle order)
Keemo Paul, Jeavor Royal, Dominic Drakes, (all Rounders) Rutherford can count as well
Akenie Adams, Bootan, Bishop, Fredericks (spinners) - 3 of them left armers
Ryan John, Chemar Holder, Kian Pemberton, Jonathan Taylor (seamers)
Yadram from Guyana has done well, he's about 16/17 and has directed Guyana's innings well when they were in trouble. Anil Matthews, Alick Athanaze from Windwards are dangerous players too, showed some glimpses of brilliance but not so consistent as the others.
Extremely disappointed by Ross Powell of Leewards and Michael Frew of Jamaica. Had very poor tournaments by their standards.
Emmanuel Stewart really showed his talent in the one day leg. Played a spectacular innings against Trinidad. He was looking good today too, probably the best player of spin in youth cricket right now.
My best xi would probably be
Tyrone Williams
Joshua Da Silva
Emmanuel Stewart (wk)
Shemar Springer
Kirstan Kallicharan
Keemo Paul
Jeavor Royal
Ryan John
Akenie Adams
Chemar Holder
Kian Pembertan
One thing about Kallicharan, that youth does start off slow then catch up his runs in good pace later on in his innings. Quality #4/5 attributes.
EDIT: I've mixed up Keegan Simmons, it should be Joshua Da Silva in the xi.
Congrats to Guyana!
I was hoping for a more competitive final.
Thanks to Jen and the SVG staff for their timely and professional updates.
In reply to jen
What about the Barbados opener with a ton and a few 50's?
Holder was not the best bowler, base on stats, so are you picking him, base on his WC experience?
In reply to openning
You cannot just select players solely on stats.
In reply to openning
There are other openers who scored more than the bim opener.
You had to see Holder bowl to actually see how well he bowl. He didn't get the wickets to show, but the most hostile spell I saw for the tournament came from him. Man been really step on the gas that day.
In reply to voiceofreason
WICB communications manager (can't remember her exact post) said at the presentation ceremony that this tournament has been the best ever hosted youth tournament. As part of the SVG Cricket association team, i'm proud to hear that. It was a beautifully ran tournament indeed. Hardly any hiccups along the way. They big up the website especially, that really impress them. I especially feel great about this part because it was my idea to run updates every 15 - 20 minutes plus my written code powering it!
In reply to voiceofreason
How are you going to select them?
Scoring runs and taking wicket is what needed at this stage,, if you cannot score runs or take wickets at this level, you expect someone who look good to be selected?
You are a real joker..
In reply to openning
As selectors, especially at this level, can't just watch stats. Two things to bare in mind, the pitches they played on were by no means lively except the ODI they played Jamaica on. Second, all teams coming to play Barbados would be on the watch to not go after Holder because they know he's the ace bowler. From the matches i've seen with Holder, no team went to beat him out the attack. Take pembertan from Leewards for example, teams were attacking him more so he created more chances. Not saying Pembertan didn't bowl well because he did and he's got decent pace too.
In reply to jen
The first time I heard about the youngster was on the Mason show, I then saw him in the WC, and for CCC.
He has been a busy young man in the last year, I hope he get a little rest for a month, and then return.
First time Players at this level has always been selected on performance, returning players are also selected by former performance
I've been following these tournaments for donkey years, and I live 4000 miles from the region.
BTW, you have done a great job, in getting the games to us.
In reply to jen
Thanks Jen.
I really appreciate all you and SVG Board have done to bring us those live updates and reliable ustream.
I was able to follow all the matches well.
In reply to jen
I would concur with the WICB communications manager with regard to the tournament. This is the best U19 tournament from a coverage perspective. You gave a lot of insight which we never heard from any of the regional tournaments.
Your accolades are well deserved 👍

Is only now I Realise Kian Pemberton gonna turn 17 in september. If the birth date I got is correct, that kid bowling very good for his age and with good gas too. He suppose to mash up this tournament in his next two edition. Other plus are Kallicharan and Yadram from Guyana. Johnel Eugene and Jeremiah from Windwards are good players too. Joshua Bishop caused havoc in this tournament, two more years yeft. Kilano Brathwaite from bim, looked good in this tournament. Big fella. Shem Watson dangerous down the order for bim. Dominik Samuels from Jamaica is a solid bat, probably the only jamaica that wasn't hitting the balls in the air. And last but not least, Emmanuel Stewart, wonderful on the eyes. This man should have a PCL contract, even if not in the playing xi.
Windwards 8 potential returnees next year, should be another good tournament for them.
And thanks to everyone for the wonderful and kind words of encouragement and feedback, really appreciate it. It made doing it all the more worthwhile! Love me caribbean people bad!!!
Yes.... Thanks again Jen... Great work and also it's good to get comments on individual players from someone that's actually seen them perform live. Bare statistics and scorecards can only tell you so much.
Great stuff

CBC Q 100.7 FM
jen, any assessment of the quality of the ICC Americas players? Curious.
In reply to Tryangle
There are one or two good ones in between but most of them won't make any of our regional u19 teams to be honest. One the fast bowler have guyanese roots, he was bowling with decent pace.
In reply to jen5
Excellent job, good computer skills- now back to bowling those soft long hop Sundays
In reply to sudden
so its ok..if we say Jen Jen?

In reply to jen
Any assesment of Jerymiah from Windwards?
He had a few good scores?
In reply to jen
In reply to tc1
What's your assessment of the bim's U-19 players
In reply to Tagwa1
I think Jeremiah has another year and he has impressed. Has a two gear approach to batting. Can play solidly and hold the innings but once yo bowl bad for him, he cashing in and I love that. I saw the half century against Jamaica and it was nice. He hold the fort while Matthews was hiting it around then later on he open up and hit couple sixes. He should be one the leading openers next year easily. He struggled against Keemo Paul pace in the final. Keemo basically bowled short all over and got matthews guiding in slips hand and jeremiah fending down the leg side. Apart from that, he looks good.
Anil Matthews played some good knocks for windward too, he doesn't waste much time, disdainful to pacers. Alick Athanaze, a slim small fella but ah bad man. THat man does lick ball. Windward's easily played the best cricket of the one day leg but on the finals, Guyana came up trump.
Johnel Eugene is another to keep on eye on. That 40 in the finals was a quality innings. Dug windwards out of a hole in couple other innings too. He has two more years at this level. The son of John Eugene I think.
Must say though, the pitches this year in St. Vincent have been good to bat on with the exception of Sion Hill. A lot of these batsmen missed great opportunities to cash in.
In reply to Tagwa1
hehe, believe it or not, my neighbourhood where I grew up, they use to call me jen jen when i was very young.
In reply to tc1
Lort, like you does watch me play, cause ah does bowl plenty of them fo true.

No one stood out to me, I expected more from Boucher, Kirton, Drakes and Holder as this was their 2nd or third year at this level.
