Lets say, theft of property in excess of $1,000. Have your views on crime and criminals change because of it?
What should be the punishment for the offender?

It's hard to see something you worked hard to obtain, disappear within minutes.
I had it happen twice.

i was walking past the mental hospital the other day and all the patients were shouting, '13....13.....13.'
The fence was too high to see over, but I saw a little gap in the planks.
I looked through to see what was going on.....
Some bastard poked me in the eye with a stick!
Then they all started shouting '14.....14....14....
In reply to black
We are all victims of your criminal inanity.

Got burglarized 3 times in 3 different homes while coming up,the second and worst one I was in my early to mid 20's (22-24) living with my first son's mom..I was young and bought all my stereo components JVC and Teac and some huge CD towers full of genuine CDs,everything from Roberta flack to Kenny G to MJ to Guns n Roses, and some big ass square 'flat screen' Tv's in those days, workmen were building a pool next door for weeks..came home a Friday to meet all lights on and side door forced open and a concentration of mud right there from boots..they took everything,I was distraught as a very young man,it was close to Xmas,my mom bought back everything for me..the same or even better...love that woman!! Anyway I wanted them dead and was obsessed with that..
Same thing happened a year or 2 before that actually,I was 21 ,at a townhouse we were renting before...a nice lil gated bounded by a semi village, the 'neighbor' son was the culprit,he did't take big stuff like electronics, mostly jewelry and small items but it was the first time and I felt really violated and wanted him dead..passed home many times during the day in the hopes of catching him and chopping him up(didn't have gun permit yet).
Then finally when wifey and I got in we rented a nice apartment overlooking the sea in the West, gardener broke in,took money and jewelry and small items as well, wifey felt much worse than me because it was her first time..
I saw the guy walking out the area after and buss his face with a gun butt..nearly got in trouble as you not supposed to pull that out unless in danger....(shhhh) Anyway I had to take the fucker to KFC and the pharmacy after...a doctor neighbor who he worked for was facilitating him and validating the bastard after I bled his face out...but the guy in the mini mart on the main road said he came with plenty change/coins etc..we had plenty coins..
i felt like killing all of them at the time, but now I would only kill you if I find you coming in or inside...I'm mature now..
Have been robbed at gunpoint couple times too, never bothered me too much....different scene now though..mi ready!! But my worst crime experience is when I left my business to go pick up my son in 2000 and when i returned my undercover armed security/sales person was dead in a shootout with 2 bandits..that effed me up,he was my friend and we were planning in closing early to go play pool for hours that day..they were caught and sentenced though..endorsed by the area gangstas because 'dey shoulda neva go rong a man like bravos'...we went to court and the witnesses worked everyday and none were harmed,I know how to survive here bro..
My motto now is we don't fuss for material things but we would have to kill you if you come to take it and we there..

Route A: YOU are the problem. (honestly) fight me bout it now.
Route B: YOU are the victim, but perhaps STILL the problem - though unlikely - could be just "unfortunate" as per above post.
Unlike Bravos, I think you got hit - as an inside job. I stand by to be informed....
In reply to pelon
How can you make that conclusion without facts?
In reply to black
Burgled twice.
one a guy reached thru the open sunroof and grabbed my gym bag while I was standing mere feet away...stole my wallet and then had the balls to call some of my clients in my diary saying he was coming to collect money on my behalf for premiums.
the next one...Family got gassed..week before World Cup 2007..
stole wifes car...my spare keys for my lexus...couldnt drive stick..stupid incompetent bastards so couldnt move my car..but stole my laptop bag and Sagicor branded jackets...and camera.
threw laptop bag out of car about 200 yards down the road....jackasses thought it was too heavy and with so many compartments missed hundreds of dollars in client funds and my laptop it self ..all safely intact...
small mercies..
I still think they want locking up..and I know for sure I would shoot first and ask questions later..these men dont care about me nor my family...
In reply to powen001
Sorry for your loss but that is some funny shit.
In reply to black
see the " I stand by to be informed.... "
That was to suggest: I know nothing, I await you informing me.
In reply to powen001
Gassed? They put them to sleep??
In reply to powen001
I had one guy break my car window an took everything that was in it, Just got done shopping. Ouch!!
The guy must have been watching, I left the car for 1 minute.
The other was a home burglary, he took computers, jewelry, etc.
In reply to bravos
That is some serious stuff there. I see why Courtesy brought out his stats.
Just kidding.

Extorted by deception! No joke...thru a website (not gwine say! Heheheh). Went to get a piece of a dougla looking chic....got to the location, only to encounter a hugly transvestite! I said this was a mistake n was about to leave when he/she stood by the door, snapped her/his fingers where a tallish young maaga man appears n sez that I have to leave her/him $omething! I gave this `thing` $20, but demanded more! I said to myself, `bai, u gwine have to cuff u way outta this`; unfortunately the `petite dougla with the tennis roll batty`, summoned another bloke with a dog n he/she demanded $100 more or they will sic rover pon me. No joke sah! I was stupid not to have a visual of the dougla before entering the apartment!

Many Bajans believe person(s) were going around funneling a sleeping gas into bedrooms effectively knocking the residents out.
Sounds like hogwash to me.
Most people sleep in a bedroom 10*10 in size. Dem people wid a Lexus (in powen case probably an Altezza) may be in bedrooms much larger.
Most people sleep with standing fans on.
How quietly funneling gas in a room with air circulating going work?
In reply to nick2020
when was this happening? this is the first time i have heard of this?
In reply to nick2020
10 by 10? that cant even hold a bed. so how was sleeping gas administered? through an open window ?
In reply to sudden
That is a jail cell.
Nick doesn't know what he is talking about.
In reply to nick2020
how does Carbon monoxide kills people their homes?
In reply to nick2020

In reply to black
1. Average jail cell is 6 feet by 8 feet. That is 48sq feet. 10 by 10 is double that size.
2. Coverly is Barbados is a development with well over a thousand units (most empty though). Here is one of the floor plans. But for good measure here is a floor plan of a home in Georgia. Master bedroom is 18*10 but that has one suite bathroom and walk in closet. The other 2 bedrooms? 10*11.
3. I typing this from a bedroom that is around that size. Granted I do not drive an Altezza.
In reply to camos
Are you sure you are not making up said situation? Exposure to slow leaks in an entire home killing people immediately?
Why do you need to sit in a non-ventilated garage with the car running for hours to commit suicide? How is the gas man going to feed gas quickly but silently thru a non-sealed bedroom window with air circulating? Man gotta open your window and feed a line thru said window. Air not going to get back thru the window?
And finally show me some kind of statement from the Barbados police warning people about being gassed and how to prevent it.
In reply to nick2020
So you using those huts at Coverley to describe the average bedroom for a man in Powen's class who drives a Lexus. No wonder Powen does cuss you. Give the man his due. The average size of a bedroom in Powen's mini mansion is 16 x 14 and the master bedroom is 20 x 20 en suite with walkin his and hers custom closets
In reply to sudden
Well I did say powen's bedroom is larger.
Funny tho do you know brands like Lexus and Acura are North America brands? So in Japan you get Honda Integras but in the US they are called Acura Integra. In Barbados we do not typically get Lexuses.
Powen being powen?
Toyota Altezzas were very popular at one point though. Reasonable guess.
In reply to nick2020
In reply to nick2020
Lexus is Toyota
Acura is Honda
Infiniti is Nissan.
But, in the U.S. they are marketed as separate brands.
In reply to camos
Lexus cars are Toyotas in Japan and many Asian countries and most non-US/UK markets, only recently they have been badging some Lexus due to the launch of the Lexus LFA..
Lexus GS-Toyota Aristo
Lexus RX- Toyota Harrier
Lexus IS-Toyota Altezza
In reply to bravos
that guy Camos dont know facts?
In reply to camos
True, I should have said "like North America".
The point though is in Barbados Lexus is not a usual brand. Unless you brought it in yourself. Which is possible with powen since he a big stage NYer.
In reply to bravos
In many cases it's the same cars but they have separate dealership distribution systems in the U.S. Those brands are supposed to be the luxury divisions.
In reply to black
I know but they are re-badged Toyotas..it was solely a strategy for the US market to compete with Acura,Infiniti,Euros etc...but the real purists are lovers of JDM (Japanese domestic market)..
In Japan one of the most desirous cars is the Toyota Crown Royal Saloon which has no Lexus association at all...
In reply to sudden
Lol...
In reply to bravos
Correct.
In reply to sudden
You would know it is the custom of old school Bajans to sleep with a window open. The premise is the gas man feeds a tube thru the window with some kind of exotic gas that is far more special than sleeping gas because it is paralyzing the victims.
sudden I doan know how you got so much time for that one powen.
In reply to nick2020
i must confess i never heard of this gas thing until now. again i must ask did it really happen?
In reply to sudden
File that under steel donkey, baku, and powen being a ladies man.
Every time I pay my taxes...
In reply to bravos
Dude! since 2007 Lexus are sold in Japan as Lexus, what the Japanese will do is sell a car that is similar to their luxury models ,with certain lesser features like : diff, interior finish, paint job etc. under Toyota brand, even in the US .
In reply to camos
Pal you talking as if Lexus set the standard for Toyota...the most prestigious Toyota in Japan isn't a Lexus.
In reply to bravos
That might be true for a particular model but Lexus is their most prestigious line.
Why fix it if it ain't broke? The Toyota Camry is Toyota's best selling car but I would not use prestige to describe it.
In reply to black
Pal I'm saying that in the home of Toyota it is a Toyota that remains the most prestigious of all vehicles manufactured by Toyota, and not a Lexus, the Japs are the parents of Lexus and they know it's just a nickname and a facade to appeal to a certain market sector,it was a great idea, but I'm simply saying that in the household it is certain Toyotas that hold the prestige and not Lexus as was intended for other markets, that's all I'm saying,in other words they not falling for their own gimmick and the market philosophy of the brand being released in Japan is different from the intended initial strategy of the brand as it relates to other markets.
In Japan it was more like 'what the hell let's sell them in Japan too'...and I expect a niche, people who live in Japan and have felt deprived of owning the brand causing a sorta curiosity and desire..
In reply to bravos
You own a Toyota?
In reply to bravos
It could be one of two things.
1. The model you listed has established a foothold in that market and it's hard to displaced it. But again, why fix what is working?
2. They (manufacturer) have not pushed the Lexus line as hard in Japan or the Toyota car is just as Luxurious.
In reply to nick2020
Dad had a Royal Saloon and plenty Toyota work vehicles years ago,sis had a Cressida and Rav-4,brother has a Prado, wifey has a 2011 Rav-4,still going great after almost 5 years, upgrading her in the near future, not looking at a Toyota though,lol....
I like the Lexus brand also but for the price here you can go Euro instead of paying all that for a TOYOTA!!Lol..having said that Land Cruisers and Crowns damn expensive here too!! it's the same paradox a sin Japan,Lexus ain automatically more prestigious in our markets especially when you have Land cruisers and Crowns available..
In reply to black
#3 A Lexus is a Toyota.
Laterz.
In reply to black
don't mind your thread being derailed?
In reply to nick2020
It's now about Toyota on Toyota crime..
In reply to bravos
In reply to nick2020
What can I do about it?
In reply to bravos
Im a light sleeper...and funny enough I fell asleep that night with my head at the foot of the bed...
Police confirmed that they pumped some gas into our bedroom through the slightly opened baby window.
Police it was a good thing given my disposition to respond...
still get upset thinking about it..
We got the wifes car back btw...they stole her radio out of the car...found it in greenfields in Bridgetown..a known hot spot.
In reply to nick2020
i just read the thread..
you really major in minor crap...
the thread about crime and you get distracted by Xmas tree lights...
you are a freak...
Did you actually graduate????
In reply to powen001
Greenfields ummm. Isn't that where you used to hang out after school?
In reply to powen001

Phew thank 'God' dey ain molest yuh bro..
In reply to bravos
What does the law in T&T say in regards to self defense?
Are civilians allowed to legally carry a weapon?
In reply to bravos
Would you be able to theorize how someone could pump gas thru someone's bedroom window with some kind of neurotoxin thus rendering everyone in it unconscious? Enough to fill a whole room?
This gas is odorless and colorless?
And the most mystifying thing about this is if person(s) are going about doing this why the police did not alert the public? I cud do a google search and find powen on the internet but not a thing on people getting gassed in Barbados.
In reply to powen001
I scraped by.
It tells me graduating with flying colours and scraping by is no measure of common sense as one gets older.
In reply to black
But you know I always strapped and I think I posted my semi-auto pistol aiming at doe here..Yeah you have to get an FUL (Firearm Users Licence),very hard to get,I got mine after appealing refusal and after the guy got shot at my business place...I used that to help make my case..but generally any tief or bandit is fair game, and if your case looking shaky the police would fill in the gaps for you!
Civilian with FUL giving statement after shooting incident with police typing:"He was reaching for a gun and I opened fire and the suspect fell to the ground"
Senior Police officer 'repeating' what you just dictated: "He fired shots at me and I was fearful for my life and with fear I fearfully returned fire and when I reopened my eyes I saw the suspect falling to the ground"
Civilian: "Huh"
Senior Officer:" He fired shots at me and I was fearful................."
Civilian: "He fired shots at me and I was fearful................"
They're the best I tell you! For cutlass attack remove 'shot's insert 'chops'!!
Case closed on site...get yuh gun back, ride out>>>>>
They can even fix a mow down with yuh car for you too...he probably 'fired' at your car (and obviously missed),and fearing for your life you made an evasive maneuver and when you came out the car he was nowhere to be seen and then you realized he was pinned under said car' and appeared deceased',lol, fleeing bandits have been mowed down here in the past...
Sorry but no love for armed bandits here..sometimes they drop/lose their guns and get beaten to death, happened recently in a bar..mom said they didn't have to beat him so bad, felt sorry for the yute but he probably killed already or would've eventually..
In reply to bravos
I am not a friend of criminals but what if someone wrongfully claim self defense?
What if someone accuse you of pulling a gun and then gun you down?
Don't get me wrong, this is not about defending criminals, it's about police interpretation of events.
In reply to black
Nah expected that question, anything else but a bandit and you are a goner and so is your FUL..even if you just present the weapon without good reason..and in a case like that all the witnesses coming forward to send you down, you ain no badman...no FUL man taking a chance with that, easier to get your bad man fren to handle that, something I would never part take in...many have lost their guns for making bad decisions and then trying to cover it up with false reports, even an off-duty policeman opened fire on some men that were beating him in drunken brawl outside a bar,and then said they were robbing him of his chain,he's in jail as I type..no bail..
In reply to bravos
Ok Pal, if you say so! Stealing your line.
In reply to black
I was racially abused by a couple of white thugs a decade ago when I first moved to this part of south Hertfordshire, where I still live. The police recorded it as a hate crime, and despite the occasional update, nothing came of it. Now, with more non-whites moving into the area over the past decade, this area has become a more tolerable place for people like me to live in. Neighbours on both sides of my house are not white or English, and they're the best neighbours I've ever had in this country.
Has this experience changed my views in any way? Well, when I first moved to England, it was out of frustration with the way things didn't work properly in Jamaica, and I was under the illusion that the UK was a country that ran better. I was also under the illusion that I would be competing on a level playing field with white people in this country.
Well, that experience was the start of my wake-up call....

clearly you dont know what s going on...I have clients who have been burgled exactly like this...
ONe of the top forensic officers on the island happens to be an old school mate who came here and confirmed it.
I have been a country boy all my life..accustomed to sleeping with windows and doors open for years...
My first thought when I woke up was how my head felt...then i heard my wife asking me ..where is her car...then i knew something was up...
THe baby at the time was fine..they came thru her window.
