R Ashwin - How to prepare for Test cricket.

My favourite Indian cricketer by far.

I've always felt he's not appreciated enough by his captain or coach. The amount of work and strategy that goes into his preparation and his success despite his various health issues is inspiring.

Hire his own strength/conditioning trainer, hire his own mental coach.

I've posted before, today's cricketers are elite sportsmen and I know West Indies players don't put in the kind of time, training, effort and analysis needed to succeed at the highest level. We lack the capacity to easily identify weaknesses and capitalize on them. We can't even correct our own weaknesses to strengthen our game.

Does anyone prepare for a series like Ashwin ? 4 weeks out he starts training, he watches "every ball" of the opponents last series, he wants to see split screens, slow motion, ultra slow motion, he identifies trigger movements, he knows his opponent's strength and weaknesses.

We turn up for most test series and bowl Tata for the entire 1st inning, perhaps improving a little by the second. I'm watching Aussies bowl and we are nowhere as accurate as them, nowhere near Pakistan, India, England, or New Zealand

Hope Ashwin continues for another few years, love seeing him out think batsmen.

I think that’s a highly unfair and untrue statement.
Pollard, Russell, Pooran. These guys and their financial backers move heaven and earth to find the best physios, orthopaedic surgeons, gyms and programs to succeed at the highest level.

Did you mean ‘some’ West Indians?
