St John’s, ANTIGUA – Cricket West Indies (CWI) will begin its 91st year today, with a new name and website as part of a comprehensive rebranding programme. From today the West Indies Cricket Board will be renamed Cricket West Indies and formally recognise all representative teams as the WINDIES.
CEO Johnny Grave, commented:
“Cricket West Indies better reflects how the organisation operates, as there are many different stakeholders who we work in partnership with, under the unifying aim of improving cricket at all levels within the region. We plan to work even more closely with them over the next few years and consultation will begin immediately as we develop a new strategic plan for 2018-2023.”
President Dave Cameron added:
“Whilst the Board of Directors has an important role, we feel that the new name is more inclusive and appropriate, as we want to recognise the valuable role that our players, territorial boards, staff, supporters, governments, coaches, match officials and volunteers, play in the organisation. For Cricket West Indies to operate effectively and efficiently we need all of our stakeholders to work in partnership and the name change is an important first step in our strategy.”
The WINDIES name has long been associated with the representative teams within International cricket and this new brand will be used on all team playing shirts along with a new website focused on providing all WINDIES supporters more user-friendly information including live scores, team updates, videos and player information.
The new website is www.cricketwestindies.org and the new match centre will launch on www.windiescricket.com ahead of the first International T20 against Afghanistan on Friday, June 2.

SO THEY HAVE NOW RENOUNCED THE NAME
WICBC , AKA THE WORST INTERNATIONAL
CRICKET BOARD IN THE COMMONWEALTH TO
CWI , AKA CRICKET WORST IDIOTS .
CRICKET WORST IDIOTS APPARENTLY IS
SHORTER , AND A VERY FAMILIAR RING .
Changing a name does not mean that
those in the governance of Cricket in
the Region , are going to improve .
MY TAKE IS THAT CHANGING THE NAME
WHILE LEAVING THE SAME STRUCTURE IN
PLACE IS NOT ONLY MEANINGLESS , BUT
ONCE AGAIN PERPETRATING A CRUEL HOAX
ON THE PEOPLE IN THE REGION .
The Truth is that they Love their current Structure , it allows them to
be unaccountable , not Transparent ,
and they bluntly refuse to adhere to
all the Principles pertaining to Good
Governance .
This has been aptly demonstrated by their Members continuously Commissioning Reports regarding their
Structure ; and swiftly dismissing the Reports when they get them .
There is no doubt in my mind that the
Wehby Report is going to have the same fate as all the Others . It is
high time that the majority of Governments in the Region take Cricket Worst Idiots to Court.
There are many reasons why CWI must
be removed from the governance of
Cricket in the Region . It is high time that the current Structure , which is their Security Blanket be removed .

The new Website has a basic amateurish mistake, the Afghan tour schedule is sorted in descending order and it should be in ascending order.
Embarrassingly unprofessional but not surprising. Just recall the 'Tyrol' misprint jersey of recent times.
I'm sure there are more errors in there and I will continue to look. Can we ever do better in this region?

It's like putting a coat of paint on an old rotting house with this name change, good luck.

By the way, does anyone know when the West Indies team was first called the Windies?

In reply to Fivestar The should go all the way and correct the Columbus mistake, they should call the team the Caribbean and the Board, Cricket Caribbean.

Hahahahahaha!!!!
Cosmetic...We have now put the lipstick, mascara, nail polish and put the very best Ray Ban shades on the pig. These are just tangential measures when what is needed are well thought of strategies that will take West Indies cricket forward.
I have every reason to be cynical of this latest skin deep approach...after all, like the pig, we have been in the mud for more than twenty years without the ability and innovation to free ourselves.
............................
Btw, we will be without a strategic plan for the two years and the last plan has not been appraised...the result of incompetence and lack of accountability.
We like it so.

Any of you guys availed yourself of the live video coverage of last evening's opening match of the T20 series between the Afghanistan and the West Indies?
I did, and I'll attempt to express how pleased I was with the overall presentation. One wouldn't guess that this was an inaugural presentation for the professionalism exhibited.
Not witnessing any commercials throughout makes me wonder though, how the associated cost is underwritten. Will we be faced with "viewing fees" for future presentations?

Must say the new site is pretty good,
the matchcentre is nicely done, and I hope that when the regional tourneys start they are able to keep this up. Even if the live feeds stay as one camera, having the live stats below will be an awesome addition.
