Opting to bat first at Lime Kilns Ground yesterday, West Indies stunningly collapsed to 63 all out off 23.5 overs, with opener Hayley Matthews top-scoring with 19 to be one of just three batsmen in double figures.
The Caribbean side were 60 for three in the 16th over but lost their last seven wickets for three runs in the space of 49 balls, in an astonishing slide.
Seamer Masabata Klaas grabbed four for 14 to be South Africa’s best bowler.
In reply, the Proteas lost four wickets en route to their target which they achieved in the 19th over with Laura Wolvaardt hitting 26.
She put on 45 for the first wicket with Lizelle Lee who made 18 but South Africa then lost four quick wickets for 11 runs, to take some shine of the victory.
Veteran off-spinner Anisa Mohammed finished with two for six.
The defeat for West Indies was their second in three days and fifth since they arrived in England nearly four weeks ago to prepare for the June 24 to July 23 showpiece.

As long as West Indies try to outdo the other cricketing countries at what these countries do best while stifling what we do best, West Indies cricket will continue to be in the doldrums. Do you remember when the West Indies had four or five strong, fearsome, exciting fast bowlers to start the bowling attack how they dominated world cricket? Now-a-days, all we have are a couple slow, weak, puny medium pace bowlers who can't even stand up against capable school-boy batters.
I really don't understand it; with all the school boy cricket taking place around the Caribbean, we can't find four or five big, strong, ambitious, exciting prospects to train and develop into world class fast bowlers?
What we need to understand is that not only do good fast bowlers put fear in and destroy opposing sides, but they set the stage for their batsmen to go in confidence and destroy opposing bowlers.
So we are wasting our time in the West Indies if we think we can get by with the mediocre abilities and performances of the current bunch of so-called cricketers and visionless administrators, for that matter.

It is the same fate our Senior mens team met... As long as it is just talent we were ahead. Now that the other countries are putting in time in their womens cricket they are getting ahead of WI team.

Womens cricket has actually progressed a lot since last world cup.
