cricinfo analysis of Bishoo

In the spotlight
Skill-wise, there is very little going against Devendra Bishoo. He is a wristspinner - an essential commodity in ODIs now - but his consistency remains a problem. Good batsmen almost mark him down for approximately one short ball an over and milk him without too much trouble. If Bishoo can rectify this, he could be what West Indies need - a wicket-taker.

Fair assessment?

Yes

There is no doubt in my mind, that Narine and Badree are the top two spinners when it comes to limited over cricket. It has always amazed me, how Badree has never played in ODIs... and we have had some seriously bad players getting chances.

Apart from those two -- Nikita Miller, Nurse and Bishoo are the next best.

I have another problem with Bishoo....he bowls too many no balls...in fact a spinner has no excuse for bowling any no ball.

And yes....he has to eliminate that 4 ball....but not necessarily de donkey drop...which is his wicket taking delivery wink

Chase must be given a chance to bowl in ODIs

Chase like he don't pay for d ball.. can't understand why the skipper don't bowl him... plus he's batting too low... should be at 4...

Badree wasn't selected for T&T in regional 50 over cricket for many years. If there's any "blame" to be apportioned, it should be there.

That said...the factors that make Badree so effective in T20 cricket (bowling at the stumps with batsmen going hard at the bowling....and him opening the bowling), don't necessarily apply in the 50 over game.

In addition, Badree brings little else to the table other than being a specialist bowler. His effectiveness opening the bowling for 4 overs at an economical rate while taking wickets makes him one of the best in the world in that format. It doesn't translate in the longer forms of the game IMO, plus even for a bowler, he's a below average fielder and batsman

I would think that if Badree can bowl 4 overs economically and also take wickets at t20 level, he would be a strong candidate for ODI. His batting, should not be a factor for his selection. Yes his fielding is important.

Narper 2017-06-29 17:21:47

Badree is not effective bowling with an older ball....even 15 -20 overs ball.

So even if Badree open the bowling in ODI and bowl out his 10 overs on a trot...his last over would be the 20th over

I believe Badree is satisfied to be just a T20 player.

Astute. Respeck

I believe Badree is satisfied to be just a T20 player.

He's made a very good living for himself by essentially bowling 24 deliveries every match

In baseball terms, he would be akin to a reliever or closer.....except...in reality.....he's actually a "starter" who gets "pulled" after 24 pitches

What a job! lol

Don't dey use two balls in ODIs? If so the ball would only be 10 overs old, two or at most three more than it would be in a T20
