BIRMINGHAM, England, CMC – West Indies suffered a humiliating innings and 209-run defeat in the historic day/night opening Test after losing 19 wickets in a devastating capitulation on Saturday’s third day at Edgbaston.

Resuming the day on 44 for one in their first innings facing the massive task of overtaking England’s imposing 514 for eight declared, West Indies were bundled out for 168 in their first innings despite an aggressive, better than-run-a-ball unbeaten 79 from Jermaine Blackwood.

Forced to follow on by 346 runs, the Caribbean side were then rolled over for a paltry 137 in their second innings with only opener Kraigg Brathwaite showing any resistance with a top score of 40.

On both occasions, the Windies were undermined by England’s seamers, with the innings failing to last 50 overs.

The defeat left West Indies trailing 1-0 in the three-Test series, further extending their dismal record of having not won a Test in England in 17 years.

Agreed! What about the bowling??

In my opinion, the bowling is the offense. If it does well the batting will be much more relaxed and will perform better than normal. Huge scores after a day and half to two days on the field puts a lot of score board pressure as well as mental and physical fatigue on the batting unit which adds to their deficiencies.

Also there are a few issues that contributes to the added failure of west indies cricket. The quality of the fruit always depends on the health and treatment of the roots. Cameron and company the evidence is crystal clear that you all have failed in your mission to promote and develop the sport and playing conditions of the sport in the region. If you all are really interested in the sport in the region, you all will get out from the office in which you occupy.

The westindian people are fed up, disappointed, hurt and confused of what you executives have created from what was to what is.

West Indies cricket NEEDS the proper personnel, new vision, plan of action, implementation and time to return to being competitive in world cricket.

I agree 100% with everything you said. I also wish to add that we should get some help from the England Cricket Board (ECB), to help embarrass Cameron and co, including chief selector Courtney Brown. As a result, I strongly suggest that the ECB take a decision to withdraw all their senior players for the remainder of the series and pick an under 13 team (not an A team or under 19), for the rest of the series. I feel an under 13 team would either win one more test or draw the remaining two, and that I feel would be very embarrassing to Cameron, Nanthan, Brown and others, and it would probably force them to quit

When will the time come that CRICKET WEST INDIES will realized unless there is a serious academy for our young cricketers we will fail to rise to the level where we can compete in test cricket?
We just cannot pick a bunch of inexperienced cricketers and allow them to practice together for a few weeks and expect them to perform against a top team as England. It is wishful thinking. We need our experienced players to fill at least 2/3 (TWO THIRDS) of the playing positions.

Defeat of this nature can paralyze our young cricketers.

The batting did not collapse. That is the true gauge of the skill of the batsmen on an english surface.
