Who is this Thomas paceman?
In reply to Courtesy
Just asked that to Narper, caught my eyes, with the first few deliveries to Gayle.
In reply to openning
Him should be fast tracked from tomorrow.
In reply to Courtesy
Was thinking the same thing,,,that one that got Gayle was a peach! Cut back sharply and at about 145 Gayle had no time to react!!
Dont worry....we can arrange for him to be a Barbados citizen! (sorry..couldn't resist)
In reply to SirGarny
Brother, I don't care where he is from just get him in a camp quick.
In reply to Courtesy
I was about to ask the same question about this 20 year old kid. Same age as Alzari and in that first over clocking almost as fast as Gabriel!
What has Thomas been up to ?
Where is Leveredge? Someone explain why he has not shown up recently?
Wow!!!! wrist behind the ball and good seam position...excellent.
In reply to Courtesy
Quick Quick fast and in a hurry!!
In reply to solidrock
This is the first time seeing him. I don't care much for CPL. The boy has the goods.
Courtney Brown and Company please do the honours.
Raw pace there. Need to be consistent with line n length.
Need to expose them yutes to some good cricket
In reply to Courtesy
Heard Bish talking about him recently. Also mentioned a Dottie quickie and a Trini (I think) quickie.
Said they have pace and height...should be harnessed.
In reply to solidrock
Yu reading my mind or what? Leveridge probably has police duty and couldn't get away. Can't think of any other reason why. Murder rate in Jamaica is at unprecedented levels! All hands on deck!
HMMMM..looked just as quick to me!

In reply to Lenks
Yes he did
In reply to Lenks
Who are the other two pacers that Bish mentioned?
Perhaps other posters can help with their names.
ODean Smith was clocking over 145kph with ease too.. Ah dunno why he's not playing..
Good to see Jamaica producing some new quicks.. hope both of them play PCL for the scorpions
In reply to Courtesy
Saw him in a previous game. Has better control with slower ball than regular pace. Darn good control.

In reply to Lenks
Brother he is the first paceman who caught my eyes in years.
In reply to Courtesy
Bwoy If we can field 4 genuine quicks and 2 in reserve...just like the old days...
Tired of this military medium by 6ft 6 inch bowlers
Full name Oshane Romaine Thomas
Born February 18, 1997
Current age 20 years 194 days
Major teams Jamaica Tallawahs, Jamaica Under-19s
Playing role Bowler
Batting style Left-hand bat
Bowling style Right-arm medium-fast
In reply to SirGarny
Yep. We need new promising fast stock.
In reply to Courtesy
I sat up straight after that first ball. The 2nd..a bouncer on off stump... Gayle couldn't touch.
That third one...my goodness...
In reply to XDFIX
Medium my harse!!

Sherman Lewis from grenada
In reply to Courtesy
Don't remember. He spoke highly about them tho.
In reply to SirGarny
In reply to grenman
Think so
In reply to SirGarny
The ball that got Gayle hit the seam perfectly...pitched middle and hitting middle and leg. What a wonderful delivery.
Where has he been? Law has been asking for some real pace. He might be it. When is the next one day series?
Thomas was in the under 19 setup with alzzari and company..he has extreme raw pace..but was eratic. Good to see that two years has made a difference
In reply to Courtesy
Gayle complaining for what? Was beaten by sheer pace, line and length.
Plum plum plum
In reply to grenman
Still erratic in previous game I saw him. That slower ball ball tho...gem
In reply to Courtesy
I think he attended my high school. Cornwall College, another rural Jamaica player trying to emerge from humble beginnings.
Some serious heat here from Thomas 150.5 kph/ 93.5 mph. It was reported that he clocked 96 mph at a training camp
Was about 18 years old at the time
Bounce wit raw pace and clean action. Height and built too Fidel Edwards his backside!
In reply to Raggs
Can't ask for more than that
Needs to be nurtured.
Good raw pace with a good action and he is tall so he gets the natural bounce. Youth clocking 150ks. Need to see him play a full FC season first and then A TEAM as we do not want another Leveridge. Let us see how durable he is bowling 15-20 overs in a day.
Exciting prospect. Whatever happened to Chemar Holder?
How come he never played under 19?
In reply to voiceofreason
I would get him into the ODI setup. He can work his way up to 10 overs. He is physically mature and I think he is ready to be fast tracked. We urgently need backups for Gabriel and Roach.
In reply to deanjones
He was in the setup was always faster than alzari but was deemed too eratic
In reply to voiceofreason
He is at Cave Hill, plays for them at the Elite level
In reply to Baje
Let him play one full season of FC and ODI what is the rush? We not beating anybody in ODI these days. They said he just recovered from a hip injury hence the reason why he played his first game today.
Alzhari is a good prospect still just needs to get physically stronger and mature mentally.
In reply to openning
Oh good studies first. Hopefully, he will make a comeback. Maybe for CCC?
In reply to Slipfeeler
what the hell is humble beginnings. aren't we all Caribbean people. We always humble.
Didn't see last nights match but it's nice to hear... I was impressed with Odean Smiths pace (another 20 year old) the other night... got it up to 147 k's....when I saw him bowling in the recent U19 WC he was bowling 128-132..... military medium... he's been apparently doing lots of strength and conditioning work and now has the shoulders of a heavy weight boxer....saw Oshane Thomas in last years CPL and he looked sharp (135-13 if not that quick.... someone has been working with these youths and it's working.... great to see and hear !
In reply to Lenks
Yes in a game recently Bishop was talking about him and two other pacers that should be in a fast bowling program.
Cricket West Indies what say you?
In reply to methodic
Relax man, just a PR move!

In reply to voiceofreason
Alzhari is a top prospect (Steyn like potential), however he is just one prospect. We need to have several prospects around the team at the same time to gain experience from Roach and Gabriel and to step up when they inevitably get hurt. We cannot afford not to rush in, and I think ODI is the best format to introduce him to top class competition.
In reply to SirGarny
Why, so England can get its hands on him?

"(sorry..couldn't resist)"

Wow, I couldn't believe what I was seeing last night. I said where was this kid hiding all along? The man big, strapping, serious pace, bounce and movement. See how good the seam was even for the short stuff? Love his action, its a controllable action so a proper coach should be able to get a lot out of him.
Alzharri & Thomas two prospects we need not mess up. As VOR said, a full PCL season, Super 50 and let's take it from there.
an he gats Gayle

In reply to sgtdjones
Jamaica may have a serious pace attack soon: Taylor, Thomas, Leveridge, Smith
In reply to Baje
I hope Smith and Thomas get a look in during the PCL.... obviously they would have to impress in trial / warm up matches etc.... they both have raw pace.
Alzarri Joseph worries me a bit.... he seems to have lost his zip in the last 12 months in total contrast to the above two who have gained plenty...remember he was exciting us all in the U19 WC with his pace, bounce, movement etc.... he was consistently 138-142 then ... occasionally 145.... he seems to bowl almost everything at about 135 which at the end of the day is not quick... not sure why this is.
In reply to robbo
I think the coaches are probably slowing him down a bit. Sometimes coaches want you to hold the ball this way, deliver it this way, ..,los of information that when you start to focus on it, you worry about doing it right and you dont bowl as quickly as you can.
Also, he is probably working a lot harder than he did as U19. More matches. More workload. More practice..
In reply to Baje
Yeah I'm sure you are right... hope they don't overdo it though.... of course I understand the need for line and length... movement etc ... pace alone will never be enough but with that height and action Joseph was born to be a 'fast' bowler !
In reply to Baje

..looks to me like West Indies gine got some real pace to let loose on Bang next year in the WI...or is it SL?
In reply to robbo
I love his no smiling all business attitude. At a young age he already had pace movement and aggression. I think some gym work would be helpful
In reply to analyst-kid
Put one of them in the 'A' Squad against Sri Lanka to gain some experience.
In reply to Baje
Was thinking the same thing. By the way...Denniss Waite retired?
In reply to Courtesy
Bishop highlighted Oshane Thomas and Odean Smith, and one more pacer whose name I can't remember. He was either from Trinidad or the Windwards....
In reply to mikesiva
If you think about it Jamaica could have a seriously quick pace bowling lineup:
Odean Smith
Oshane Thomas
Reynard Leveridge
That is serious pace bowling, riches none of us have had for quite some time. Probably since Barbados had Best and Edwards in the same team. I really hope they get a chance as well. It will be a lot of fun following and our batsmen might actually get tested against real pace before reaching the test level.
In reply to mikesiva
He said Mervyn Dillon told him about a young pacer from Grenada, Windwards: Sherman Lewis.
A lot of these players would not get the exposure had it not been for the CPL. We saw Obed Mccoy the 20 year old left-armer last night bowling at 138kph. Decent tick but he was not swinging the ball more back of a length and seam.
These young bowlers are bowling in the nets and impressing the coaches, therefore earning a selection for their teams. Some of these pacers would probably take a while before they suit up for their respective territories but the CPL exposure may well fast-track them.
Say what you want about the CPL but it is serving a good purpose.
In reply to voiceofreason... sounds like we need another team or two. Maybe Florida can have their own team and leave Tallawahs here.
In reply to natty_forever
Florida Tallawahs
Jamaica Tallaweeds

In reply to Baje
Also, he is probably working a lot harder than he did as U19. More matches. More workload. More practice.
Exactly! Everybody expects success comes in a straight line all the way to the top! Like you said, he has to learn the finer points of fast bowling!
I remember when nuff men were doubting Gabriel's ability!
In reply to SirGarny
Yes!! By the Prince of POS.
In reply to voiceofreason
I would say all these potential quicks should be assigned coaches in every region so that their development is fast tracked.
In reply to Pacy... even if not fast tracked at least their development should be monitored. Academy anyone.
Pace like fiah does mek some ayuh crap ayuh knickers
In reply to voiceofreason
That's it! Sherman Lewis.
I hope their transition to the first class game is properly managed.
In reply to Runs
It's called nostalgia
In reply to Toney
In reply to natty_forever
True. They need proper professional support.
In reply to Pacy
Tino made a good point. He said Thomas and Smith can bowl fast for four overs and that's good for west indies cricket. But can they do it for 12 overs a day?
In reply to mikesiva
15- 18 overs more like.... this will hopefully come..... at the moment they have excited interest because they have displayed raw pace.
Young paces need to put in a lot of hard work. Fast bowling is not light work.
In reply to mikesiva
The fast track I said is not to fast track their selection but fast track their development. With limited talent available at this juncture we cannot risk anyone.
Quicks need coaching and support to Felipe faster and better so that they can be ready for WI duty quicker
In reply to Pacy
Allyuh remember Beaton is also up there at 144/145 to add to the mix and seems to be improving
In reply to googley... Florida Gators.
