Four day Test cricket...really?

They may also need to address the damage which has taken place since the advent of T20 format of entertainment cricket, a type of game which provides no level of improvement to what existed over the years.

Expert coaching education, such as batsmen using their brains to master the techniques of batting when building innings, and target the performances like the great George Headley, Len Hutton, Sir Garry Sobers, Sir Viv Richards, Brian Lara and Rohan Kanhai, Virat Kholi, Graeme Pollock to name a few.

Some basic forms of physical, technical and strategic methods of bowlers by studying the art of the former great ones like Michael Holding, Andy Roberts, Ian bishop, Wes Hall, Malcolm Marshall, and the spin quality of Jim Laker, Subash Gupte, Lance Gibbs to name a few.

It's nonsense. maybe this is a ploy to kill it. That would be a very sad thing. I do not care for T20 crap gully cricket.

You guys and Alvin Corneal are dinosaurs....

big grin
How many people turned up for the first round of the PCL? According to anthonyp, there were just 70-80 fans at Providence. In contrast, more than half of the CPL matches had packed crowds.

How many fans are in Bulawayo watching the Test series between West Indies and zimbabwe?

Only three men and a dog turned up to watch the home Tests against Pakistan. If nobody's watching, then we might as well reduce it from five days to four days. One less day to contribute to the expenses. Let's see how the four-day Test between South africa and zimbabwe fares on Boxing Day...I think it's a useful experiment for countries where hardly anybody turns up to watch Test cricket.

Test cricket didn't use to be dedicated five day affairs. At one point, four day or three day Tests were common. Then you had Test matches with no time limit.

Why people are aghast at trying 4-day Tests when the effort is to *save* Test cricket, eludes me.

As mentioned, attendance has dropped severely for most non-Ashes Test matches. What harm is there in giving it a try? It's not like you're going to now relegate the matches to "first class status" because the maximum number of days is less 1.

I don't care. I like Test cricket. I don't care what the crowd likes.

I guess the next move by the ICC would be, to limit the amount of overs per innings, to improve the entertainment value and put more of a value on time and to insure results.

Or make an over 5 balls to improve the over rate. Where does it end?

T20 is okay for entertainment, but that is just what it is; It also provides a means of players making some money.
Here is a novel idea.
Why not make test cricket more exciting and enticing by paying the players more money and giving them incentives at the beginning of each test, such as a monetary bonus for any batsman scoring a century and a bowler taking 5 wickets?

Shouldnt that be up to the individual teams to decide if to offer bonuses for individual accomplishments (possibly based on the player contracts), as opposed to the ICC itself?

How could they offer monetary incentives when very few people go to the games?

lol lol lol

It is amazing the Guardian still gives him a column. It is precisely thinking like his that almost caused the commercial collapse of the sport.
